In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria's digital infrastructure, MTN Nigeria has unveiled plans to construct the largest data center in West Africa.

This ambitious project will feature a state-of-the-art, Tier 4 data center with a capacity of 1,500 racks, designed to address the increasing data demands of businesses and consumers across the region.

MTN's Chief Technical Officer, Mohammed Rufai, provided detailed insights into the project during a recent interview. He emphasized the critical necessity of expanding data processing capabilities to keep pace with the significant growth in data usage and the advent of new digital services.

"We are witnessing a substantial increase in market demand, with data usage rising dramatically. To meet this demand and prepare for future growth, we are proactively expanding and modernizing our data center capacity. This ensures we are ready for expansion at the opportune moment".

Of course, Nigerians are their largest subscribers world wide even if all other national subscribers are combined, they'd be one third of their Nigeria's subs.

I thought it was already at finishing stage with rack center. I am wondering how it will play out because mtn is likely to make another loss this second quarter, will the data center be an asset or liability considering the huge power that would be required to run it and equipment cost ,let mtn not go the way of Etisalat through over investment in an economy that Microsoft and Facebook are pulling out

More topnotch, A-rated, high value companies with high paying jobs keep trooping to President Tinubu's Lagos due to his robust legacies but the only thing that 3rd class agulu criminal brought to his state was a brewery that produces only alcohol so that he can profit from making his people drunkards, kill them slowly through damaged livers and later pay them condolence visits to mock their stupidity.

For the sake of equity, this project should be sited in Abia State.

You must think you are smarter than the CFO that approved the project for you to be questioning his decision. Google him

MTN keeps reaping Nigerians off yet some ediots are celebrating this.

I can bet my balls that MTN cannot survive in countries like USA, Canada etc Where data prices is being checkmated by the govt and of course we have no govt here in Nigeria, more reason MTN keeps reaping Nigerians off back to back
