You must not give everyone money ogbeni. Stop exhibiting crass and foolish education. Creating an enabling environment by investing in programs that will uplift society and empower the citizens positively to earn money in their pockets and be self sustaining is the key.

Nobody is dashing free money in UAE. The Government built good roads,,,good hospitals,,effective transportation services. Attracted investment, by being a destination of choice for the whole world.

That is what grows economies. Not dashing indigent and lazy idiots money and worthless bags of Rice. How long can they sustain that?

Abeg free me with your low level reasoning..

Nonsense.

Have igbos contributed in the looting at the federal level or it's a family affair we shouldn't meddle into?
Ojuntana:
Rubbish talk. Why won't Nigeria be poor when you guys have looted it scandalously. How can you loot a country so much and still expect it to be rich? Can most other countries survive this level of looting? In fact, it speaks to Nigeria's wealth that it's still this buoyant after decades of looting.

After devaluing the naira, they come and start making false comparisons.
How does it make sense for Kenya's budget to be bigger than Nigeria's if not that our leaders are useless. As at 2015, Nigeria's budget was over $22bn (4.5trn) while that of Kenya was around $19bn (K1.8trn).
If you go back to 2008, Nigeria's budget was same $22bn(N2.89trn) while Kenya's was just $11bn (K866bn)

I’m not a criminal like you, I worked hard. Woke up as early as 3am to beat Lagos traffic and won’t get home until midnight. I worked my ass out. This coupled with the good policies from the government then made some of achieved so much. Government did not give us palliatives, but ensured their policies were for hard working citizens like me. I don’t need to steal government money before I can make, all I need is good policies from the government. #zombie shey you don hear. If life no sweet you under PDP it means you are lazy.

There’s no better description of Odumeje’s msg on illiterates pretending to be sophisticated than this airhead rambling on top my mentions. "The land is not fertile and the weather is less than perfect" but in 2004 white farmers displaced from Zimbabwe happily resettled here in the land of no productivity to continue their farming activities.

^^^
cheesy

If Odumeje is your inspiration then you and I probably have nothing to discuss.

You called me an airhead...and an illiterate pretending to be sophisticated - and that's ok. I have been called far, far worse. cheesy

But...gratuitous insults in a debate on policy are not my thing. Any fool can liberally throw those around to mask his unease at not having a sound argument to defend.

The fact that farmers from Zimbabwe settled here to farm says absolutely nothing about the fertility or productivity of our soils in their natural form. How thick do you have to be not to understand this? Do you know the decision matrix of even a single one of those farmers? Do you know anything about their farming methods? Are you unable to grasp the idea that Nigerian soil is low fertility/productivity and yet it can be improved by Zimbabwean (or any other) farmers who know what they are doing? undecided

Another poster mentioned how the Israelis have been able to extract significant value from semi-arid soil in the middle east. That's precisely the point...low fertility, low productivity soils can be significantly improved with the right technology, the right farming practices and the right resources.

That's all.

olisaEze:
BTW, is that why Nigerians are living below the poverty line today?? Singapore has no real natural resources not even human capital, but they’re living a life beyond your imagination because they don’t sound as dumb as you sound when it concerns their politics. grin

^^^
undecided

Irrelevant.

This tripe you typed has nothing to do with soil fertility/productivity. I raised a point about Nigerian soils and you would do well to stick to that topic.

And...what kind of person would say Singapore doesn't have human capital? undecided See? Just a little pressure and you're already unraveling fast. grin Only an ignorant person would say that Singapore lacks human capital - and you have exposed and advertised your ignorance for all to see.

I wonder the kind of economist we have in Nigeria, just imagine that the exchange rate of Nigeria n Kenyan currencies are the same n about 100/$,what would the situation look like, there are lots of manipulations with the exchange rate system, how can the currency of china the world second biggest economy be so weak?, while the west made their currencies to be strong to dominate the third world economies, the Asian giants deliberately weakens their currencies to make their goods cheap n continue to drive exports n create jobs in their countries, Nigeria should just play them against each other by reaching a favourable agreement with Japan for instance,to have fix exchange rate with the yen to serve as a buffer against other currencies, the agreement should be carefully drawn to be mutually beneficial unlike the France vs CFA exploitative arrangement, all our ecomust do is to be quoting theories and policies actually design to exploit us,yet they claims to be experts!, it's no wonder that we are not making any head way all this years.

We are a poor country because this useless party destroyed every little gain we recorded during PDP.

Go check previous year's budget then come back and blame APC.

NOTE;I don't support any party, but I choose to objective than be an indecipherable simpleton.

The problem is there are too many loopholes in the system and top heavy priorities.

What is Nigeria's governments capacity that makes it poor?
Capacity, I refer to GDP. How much revenue should a government raise from its GDP. E.g I live in a state with 4.5million people with $258B GDP. This state gets $78B Revenue.
Nigeria has more than that GDP but generates less than $20b. YoY we're obsessed with corruption, but the revenue is even nothing, assuming nobody steals a penny from the expenditure side. $20B for 200m people?
Potential to earn is there (GDP) but no president has been hardworking enough to raise revenue.

How government capacity be the same thing as GDP?

How does the word capacity imply GDP and vice versa?

I can see you "don't support any party, but choose to objective than be an indecipherable simpleton" indeed. you can as well give us the budget in dollar, then come back and blame PDP.

Loopholes? more than what PDP met in 1999? I can see that you are very objective. Maybe we should start mentioning the loopholes and what was/is done to fix the loopholes.
