Muslim-muslim Presidency And The Survival Of Christian Faith In Nigeria by tolastikha: 11:36am On Jun 30 |
The political landscape in Nigeria took a decisive turn with the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing the presidency with a Muslim-Muslim ticket. The election of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, both Muslims, had raised alarm among many observers who believed that this move would intensified religious tensions in the country. The concerns, although not without basis was suppressed by the agents of the ruling national government; since they ascent to power, there have been reports suggesting a rise in targeted violence against Christians, signifying a dangerous shift in the ongoing religious conflict. A New Turn in Islamic Jihad The past year has seen a disturbing escalation in attacks that are perceived to be part of an ongoing Islamic jihad. These attacks, which have predominantly targeted Christian communities, have resulted in the deaths of numerous Christians and clergy families. Most recent cases of this Islamic jihad, ISWAP, Bokoharam, Fulani immigrants, etc, against the Christians under the watch of President Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima include but not limited to; Father Mikah of Zamfara State, Rev. Natalie and Most Rev. Dr. John Bakeni, Rev. David Ayuba Azzaman, Pastor Paul Musa, and Wife. The economic sabotage aimed at Christians has also intensified, with many families facing ruin due to ransom demands that strip them of their financial resources. The systematic nature of these attacks has led many to believe that there is a concerted effort to weaken and eventually annihilate the Christian population in Nigeria. Disenfranchisement and Political Manipulation During the last Presidential election, many Nigerians expressed their fears about the implications of a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Despite widespread concerns, it was evidently clear that numerous Nigerians were disenfranchised, unable to exercise their voting rights effectively. This disenfranchisement in the opinion of the general public was deliberate tactic to ensure the election of the APC candidates, despite the potential for increased religious strife. Calls for International Intervention The silence of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the face of these atrocities has been deafening. Their reluctance to address the escalating violence against Christians has only fueled suspicions of complicity or, at the very least, indifference. As the situation deteriorates, there is an urgent need for international intervention to protect the remaining Christian population in Nigeria. I call upon the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, the American government, and Russia to recognize the severity of the situation and take immediate action. The global community must not stand by as an entire faith community faces potential obliteration. Diplomatic pressure, humanitarian aid, and, if necessary, peacekeeping interventions should be considered to halt the ongoing violence and ensure the protection of Christian lives and properties. Conclusion The current trajectory under the APC's Muslim-Muslim leadership poses a grave threat to religious harmony and the safety of Christians in Nigeria. The international community must act swiftly to address this crisis, ensuring that the principles of religious freedom and human rights are upheld. Without intervention, the Christian faith in Nigeria faces an uncertain and perilous future. Tola O. Christians who are unequally yoked with Islam - by marriage, by association or other ways. "Christians" who dabble into Islamic affairs for selfish interests. Confused fellows... Just take a look at Gbajabiamila for example... Chrislamic elements. Christistruth00: |
