Nigerian Central Bank-Owned NIRSAL Contract Workers Protest Unfair Treatment Multiple sources told SaharaReporters that contract staffers at NIRSAL's field offices in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have deep-seated grievances. The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL Plc.), established by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was envisioned as a catalyst for agricultural development through effective management of agribusiness credit risks. However, behind its noble mandate lies a troubling story of alleged maltreatment and exploitation, particularly of contract workers, who are part of the backbone of its operations. Multiple sources told SaharaReporters that contract staffers at NIRSAL's field offices in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have deep-seated grievances. Despite being instrumental in executing the organisation's grassroots initiatives and engaging directly with farmers, these staff members are subjected to grossly unfair compensation and lack essential benefits. Below Par Compensation According to sources within NIRSAL, contract staffers are paid significantly less than their core staff counterparts at the headquarters in Abuja. This pay discrepancy has been a longstanding issue, dating back to when operations were managed by consultants. Despite the direct takeover by NIRSAL's head office, expectations of fairer compensation were dashed as the pay remained inadequate. An aggrieved staff member expressed said, "It's actually maltreatment because we, the contract staff, handle all the activities right from onboarding farmers to other operational tasks, yet our payment is just below 40% of what we're supposed to receive. The disparity in pay is compounded by the absence of benefits and allowances for contract staff. Unlike their counterparts, contract staff receive no health insurance or transportation allowances, making them entirely dependent on their inadequate monthly salaries. "There is no provision for health insurance or any other insurance or allowances. Everything in our lives depends on our monthly salary. This is why we feel we have been financially maltreated," the source continued. Field operations require significant travel, yet there is no support for transportation costs. Contract staff bear the burden of travel expenses, even when they have to cover long distances for field activities. This further exacerbates their financial strain, making their role increasingly unsustainable. The maltreatment of contract staff is not a new phenomenon. The dissatisfaction began when operations were managed by consultants, who were eventually dismissed for their unfair practices. Despite hopes that direct management by NIRSAL would bring positive changes, contract staff continue to face the same financial and moral injustices. The contract staff at NIRSAL are now calling for justice and fair treatment. They argue that as Nigerians contributing significantly to the organisation's success, they deserve equitable pay and benefits. We were initially employed with training promises; however, we realised it was a scam when we began sponsoring ourselves for training. "Some of us took exams and had interviews with NIRSAL, but they segregated us, promising absorption in six months. It has been seven years,” said a source. " The system has failed us.” Source: https://saharareporters.com/2024/06/23/nigerian-central-bank-owned-nirsal-contract-workers-protest-unfair-treatment-demand#google_vignette |

NOwazobia: Lol. Is that not what you IPOB lot thought you were doing also? I.e paying back Buhari in his own coin till UGM, IPOB, ESN, Autopilot etal created serious violence and bloodletting that has now turned your region into hell? Is it Buhari suffering today in Daura? Let Atiku etal continue their hollow and insincere Taqiyah thinking they are making life difficult for Tinubu and paving an easy path for them to gain power in future. Their region been overwhelmed irredeemably by terrorism and banditry will be the only reward gained for their myopic and desperate lust for power. Aside alway attacking Tinubu and the FG he leads, I need any Nigerian to show me where a Northern leader has stood up to be counted like 'Aketi', deceased former Governor of Ondo Rotimi Akeredolu. Aketi took it upon himself to lead the fight against Fulani herdsmen and militia menace across the SW rather than be exchanging accusations and empty rhetoric against Buhari daily while innocent SW folks continue to die. The problem of banditry and terrorism in the North has Northern origin and need Northern solutions. Atiku and co know this but they keep fooling the gullible and hateful Nigerian like you because of their desperation to gain power history has shown they never use well or transfromationally anyway. We all have to lay in the bed we make and we should also remember the saying "oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to decieve". That saying encapsulate the self-inflicted problems the SE and the North today have with needless bloodletting, terrorism, banditry and general insecurity. 1 Like

Thank God Atiku is admitting for once that the Apc scaled back insecurity in the North East. This was achieved by Buhari. After all, it was Tinubu that brought Buhari. So, indirectly, its kudos to Tinubu. |
Re: Don’t Allow North East Slide Back Into Theater Of Terrorism, Atiku Tells FG by WizardOfNG: 9:20am On Jul 01 |
greypencils: Exactly. Let Atiku be deceiving gullible Nigerians because of a sole and cynical desperation to blacken Tinubu ahead of 2027. Same Atiku permanently domiciled in Dubai throughout the rule of Buhari when shocking incidents like the Kaduna train kidnapping occured , in one of the most militarised and armed forces State of Nigeria, now wants to pretend things have somehow worsened and we should blame Tinubu for that. This is a man whose action shows he does not care about the lives of ordinary Northerners with how he was completeley MIA (missing in action) for 8 years terrorism and banditry got considerably worse under Buhari. Today he wants to rewrite history and blame Tinubu for everything because he knows or believes "Nigerians no get brain" and they will swallow his mischief to then go to the polls and declare him President in 2027. I will only blame Tinubu if, after seeing all this cold and wicked machinations from so-called friends and former allies he has always helped and shielded, he does not hurry up to restructure Nigeria holisticlly and sincerely. Most crucially by giving all regions the autonomy to truly be in charge of their own most important functions, endowment and tools of development thus offering complete insulation against the 'one Nigeria' sabotage and inefficiency the likes of Atiku love using to hold us all back. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Don’t Allow North East Slide Back Into Theater Of Terrorism, Atiku Tells FG by bixton(m): 9:31am On Jul 01 |
EponObi: The North is not interested in ending terrorism or even mitigating it in ways that news of it will be insignificant. Irrespective of the Northerns given military slots and even the office of the NSA, they won't bring it down. In this they are all brothers in arms. But if such slots be given to a Southerner, then you'll see results just as it was in the days of PGEJ , but we were told that the President and the FG are killing their brothers who are insurgents. Probably there's no oil or gas in those areas that's why they are not bothered. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Tinubu by the end of his government should return this country to regionalism. At least he has fulfilled his personal ambition of becoming a Nigerian President. I don't know why some people are afraid of regional government. It will bring out the best in every region. But some people chose to be parasites. The cunning northerners are harvesting gold and other land minerals in their region and still cling to crude oil in Niger Delta. Me as a south Easterner, I believe in human resources and capital development. We all will survive this. I hate attachee by force |

Whenever the North is disaffected with the leadership, terrorism always increases. It seems the politicians are behind the terrorist attacks. It happened under OBJ and GEJ, and now it is in Tinubu. I don't support Tinubu; I would instead prefer a Kenya-style protest to remove this monster |

Santalpharay: Shikena and well-said. We hate each other in Nigeria for sure because of ethnic, religious and sectional differences. This is the truth pragmatically sensible.Nigerians know it is futile to deny. It is the reason Nigerians cannot ever come together for the greater good of their nation today. It is the reason Atiku and most Northerners kept as silent as a grave yard over the proliferation of terrorism, Fulani herdsmen violent brigandage of Nigeria , destruction of our agricultural sector and drastic increase in banditry under Buhari abetted by Northerners themselves. Yet they have the voice and mouth to attack Tinubu today as if he is soley responsible for the reality of the North and must deliver solution or be booted out (their main agenda as "born to rule" proponents) all in aid of a desperate power-grab Taqiyah mission that has nothing to do with care for the lives of ordinary Northerners that Northern leaders themselves have made hell over the past two decades. You are 100% correct. Let us declare a moratorium on blame game and passing the buck that has always characterised how we do things failingly in Nigeria. Let all sincere and genuinely peace-loving Nigerians simply sign up to a new determination for the creation of fully autonomous regions so we "all face our region for our survival and development" leaving nowhere for the insincere, power hungry, internal sponsors of terror/insecurity and desperate enemies-within of Nigeria to hide. Solutions we can all demand are staring us in the face. it is obvious only bitter, hateful, compromised, evil and vengeful Nigerians will ignore these solutions to continue empty blame game noise when we would all be best served putting the past behind us and embracing what will help all sincere and well-meaning Nigerians develop and secure themselves optimally while brutally exposing the monsters and enemies of Nigeria's progress as sunlight in the morning exposes evil that darkness of night hid. 3 Likes |

The Northerners wrote to PBAT begging him not to bring in US troops sacked from Niger republic, seems the President will have to reconsider and give foreign troops land for operations in Northern Nigeria to end insecurity for good. The next steps the President will take will be very brutal.. PBAT is not GEJ. |
