Ekiti Government rejects power outage announcement
Re: Notification of power disruption/outage in Ado-Ekiti and Akure for two months (July, August 2024) for nine hours each day (8.00am to 5.00pm)

To: MD/CEO TCN, MD/CEO BEDC, Chairman NERC

Our attention has been called to public notifications, both in print and in jingles in English and in Yoruba, of the intention of BEDC under advice by TCN to disrupt power supply to the transmission stations in Akure and Ado-Ekiti – and in effect to adversely affect the Ekiti State and Ondo State areas – for nine hours each day (8.00am to 5.00pm) from July 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024.

No direct notification/communication was made to the Ekiti State Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU) on this matter, nor was approval sought and obtained from the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (EKSERB), saddled by law with the full authority to regulate the electricity industry in Ekiti State.

The planned disruption of electricity for three-eighths of each day for sixty-two days, amounting to five hundred and fifty-eight hours (558) total and twenty-three days of outage in these two months amounts to an unacceptable economic, financial and social price to be paid by the citizens of Ekiti State, and we totally reject such a plan.

The letter demanded an “immediate suspension of the plan and called for an emergency meeting with the regional heads of TCN, BEDC, and NERC.

“The meeting is slated for Tuesday, July 2, in the commissioner’s office at the Government Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti.”

Aluko said, “The meeting would help all stakeholders devise an alternative and far less adverse plan to achieve the same stated aims.”

We request prompt attention to this matter while we are eager to work collaboratively toward a sustainable solution that will benefit both citizens of the state and the Ekiti State Electricity Supply Industry.

There's no where such a thing is stated in the article. BEDC claim there will always be power supply between 8am and 5pm, that's 9hours on, 15 hours off

You're blaming Discos as if TCN and the Power Generation wings are trying. Discos are not our major problem but the generators that can't generate ordinarily 5000MW of electricity for Nigeria. Nigeria needs nothing less than 40k - 100k but they generate between 2k to 3k

That's how they announced 3 weeks outage in Benin last year to upgrade lines. It turned out to be over 3 months. The electricity situation worsened after their supposed upgrade

The ones they are generating, the DISCOS are struggling to distribute. Under Jonathan and Buhari, do you know DISCOS even reject power transmitted to them by the TCN? I don't know if it's still happen now sha... TCN will send power to the DISCOS, instead of the DISCOS to transfer it to people who need it and ready to pay, they will reject it

The Benin DISCO is at fault on this issue happening in Ekiti and Ondo, not the TCN

Does it make any sense for Discos reject power transmitted to them? If there's any valid reason why they would do that, did you manage to find out why?

Rejection and not Rejection are mere rhetorics. What is evident is that Nigeria is not generating up to 10% of the energy needs of the country and without generation, energy can't be distributed. This is common sense. Instead of ministers coming out with propaganda, they should generate electricity with evidence of generation and distribution then we can listen to their propaganda

The ones the TCN is transmitting, let the DISCOS start distributing at least 90%.

The DISCOS needs to be unbundle. Benin electricity distribution company needs to be split into at least 4 electricity distribution companies.

Let's assume the Discos are rejecting it and start accepting it, that's still less than 10% of the energy needs of the country and will not make any difference.

But what's your evidence they're rejecting it or you just want to parrot what the kleptomaniac inept power ministers have been vomiting?
