There's a case I'm handling that reveals the wickedness of certain neighbors.
Mrs. Rita took in a young girl at 11 after her mother who was battling complications from a terminal illness pleaded for help.
After some years the mother passed away, the girl's family agreed she should remain with Mrs. Rita due to the good care she received there including going to school.

Now, the girl is 18, a neighbor of Mrs. Rita started poinsoning the girl's mind with harmful thoughts, claiming Mrs. Rita was exploiting her as a maid and mistreating her. This neighbor and her husband assisted the girl in running away to an unknown location.
When the girl didn’t return after school hours, investigations pointed to this neighbor, as multiple witnesses confirmed they were the last to be seen with her. When confronted, the neighbors became hostile and called the police, accusing Mrs. Rita of false accusations.

Eventually, the girl was found after some days and brought to the police station by unknown individuals. She initially gave conflicting accounts, but with advanced investigation techniques, she revealed that the neighbor had taken her to another house, promising her more freedom than Mrs Rita gave her and better care.

After everything the police wants everyone involved to move on since the girl has been found, but I've told them to charge the neighbor and her husband with kidnapping, human trafficking and other charges that will keep them off the society for a long time.
The irony of the whole thing is that the girl in question looks better than the children of this neighbor promising a better life grin grin grin

This is exactly what I always face here in Lagos.
I will struggle to get a housemaid, few months down the line when they begin to look better... Stupid boys and petty job recruiters in the area will start to deceive them of better pay elsewhere as a cashier or sales girl, chasing them up and down with fake love.

Before you say Jack, aunty will tell you one day that she is leaving and needs to go back to her town.

Months later, you'll see aunty housemaid in your estate looking terrible.

They always forget that the free accommodation and feeding they enjoy in my house when added to their monthly salary amounts to a whole lot when monetized.

All they look at is the 70k they are promised as a sales girl which can barely feed them for one month in a city like Lagos.

I hope Mrs Rita will take the matter up against the evil neighbor. Imagine the innocent girl was not found, by now Mrs Rita and her husband would be gracing the front page of our national dailies as couple that used a girl for ritual.

The one I took in like that had me arrested for kidnap, thoroughly advised by the neighbor to tell the police I kidnapped her for the ten years she was staying with my family. I kuku let her go jeje. Just a tear the neighbor can't feed her. She is roaming the streets. All elderly women in the community cursed her

I was even thinking my case was an isolated incident, I didn't know it's common.

You know the typical religious Nigerian, she wants to leave everything for God but I am strongly encouraging her and the police to charge them to court.
Like you rightly said assuming the girl was not found Mrs Rita will be in serious trouble.

Normally, neighbours aren't your friends. They are simply neighbours. I keep them that way. No relationship.

Let me ask you a question.
Is Mrs Rita treating the young girl right??

Because there have been cases whereby a lot of family exploits Orphans especially when they realize that the orphan doesn't have anywhere to go.

They will keep using her and using her until she becomes old in their house or she will get pregnant for some guy in the street and still continue the life of poverty.

Since the young girl is now 18, I suggest that you pay for her to learn a trade, so she can acquire a skill in the long run because I have a feeling that you and your wife have never given her a stipend all through her years of staying with you, you will say she is staying with you and you are feeding her so she should be grateful but she is growing up and she don't want to spend the rest of her life taking care of you and your family.

So please let's her learn a trade as she is helping you in the house so she can make something for her life.

Did I mention anywhere in my post that Mrs Rita is my wife?
I stated that the girl in question is in school, are you suggesting she should be withdrawn from school to learn a trade?
I will not be involved in this case if I had noticed any slight sign of mistreatment on the girl.

And how are you sure they don't have that plan? If they have sent her to Secondary School, obviously they will start looking out for a trade for her or even send her to university. Stop assuming they just need her to run errands. Anyways, she don dey streets. Let her see how well it treats her.

She can finish her study then learn a skill but for the girl to run away means she is obviously not happy in that household, you would like to say they brainwash her or something but an eighteen years old girl have started having sense to know when she isn't been treated right.
If she is happy in the household, she wouldn't have run away.

Also abuser always have a way of hiding their abuse, you won't see any maltreatment because most you have heard is from the guardians and how the neighbors are wicked.
If this isn't your family like you claim and you are care about the wellbeing of the girl then try and hear her own side of the story

I completely understand where you’re coming from. At first, like everyone else I thought the girl was being mistreated by her foster parents.
But as investigation advanced, it became clear that this wasn’t true, as the girl herself absolved Mrs. Rita of any wrongdoing. Even when a specialist was consulted to ensure she felt safe speaking up, the outcome didn’t change.

A) the claims from the other neighbors should be investigated 1st (aka has the young adult been indeed used as a maid)?
B) was the 18yr old young adult harmed in any way (while away)?
C) what was actually "evil" about what the neighbor did?!
D) have you asked that young adult whether she'd rather stay away from Rita or go back to her house?
E) at the end of the day, an 18yr old young adult has the right to do whatever she pleases with her own life...
