A former National Vice Chairman, North-west of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has berated Northern politicians in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Lukman, who recently resigned from APC, said politicians from the north have been reduced to members of a “choir group poorly singing ‘on your mandate we stand’ irrespective of the shaky and staggering reality being demonstrated by the mandate holder.”

He said the opportunity for Northern political leaders to redeem themselves and return the North back to rational order with committed leaders capable of responding to the challenges of the region was blown away during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement he personally signed, titled, ‘Explosive North: Open Letter to Northern Politicians’, he said political leaders in the country must be cautioned that things were about to get out of hand any moment from now especially in the North and if care is not taken, hungry people who are everywhere in the region will start breaking into homes and looting properties of innocent citizens.

The statement said: “So far, one year has pass into President Asiwaju Tinubu administration. No doubt, Northern political leaders are becoming weaker and more disorganised. Even the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima GCON, who is the highest office holder and by virtue of that should have served as the needed rallying point for Northern politicians, is anything but a political leader.

“With every respect, hardly any official of the current administration of President Asiwaju Tinubu from the North, including Sen. Femi Gbaja has to step up his game as the Chief-of-Staff and further impress the goings on in Nigeria on the current Nigerian President, Vice-President (and the Governors) about the sense of urgency in deploying NNPC CNG fuel stations to all the regions in Nigeria. Lagos State already has an NNPC CNG refill station since the launch on May 30, 2024 as seen in articles and NNPC videos online. Satisfied car and truck drivers are already purchasing CNG at the rate of N200 per standard cubic ft which is very cheap as long as you have a dual PMS/CNG vehicle or a dual diesel/CNG vehicle. In the light of the new December 2024 date for the PH, Kaduna, and Warri refineries to start production, it's important to ROBUSTLY focus on rapidly deploying CNG to massively lower the high costs of transportation of people and haulage of foodstuffs and other goods which have primarily earlier led to spikes in inflation and high costs of foods and drugs.

Dangote Petrochemical Refinery has fixed a new date of 17 July, 2024 for the production and distribution of PMS to commence, so, that should bring in massive relief in the drop of the cost of production and living, but CNG offers even GREATER benefits than PMS because it's a much cleaner fuel that reduces the constant visits to the mechanics by making the car engines to last longer and it's way CHEAPER! Dangote Petrochemical Refinery can then sell the excess refined crude oil products abroad to earn FX into the CBN coffers thereby boosting the economy. This is not rocket science, and shouldn't lead to pussyfooting, unless there is a larger sabotage to stage a military coup or destabilization of Nigeria by fifth columnists.

There must also be simply-worded weekly YouTube feedbacks from the Presidency and even all the Governors on what they are doing to minimize restiveness. Former President Barack Obama did that using YouTube videos which went viral when he was the President of the United States and was able to connect with American folks. I get a sense that some positive things are happening behind the scenes in Nigeria that would lead to medium to long-term economic growth but folks on the street level who are hungry and have been hit by hyperinflation are NOT being given regular time frames and updates on what is going on. Nobody likes being kept in the dark over anything as it leads to anger and restiveness. Period.

Governance and Administration in our country must be very difficult in Nigeria.

People - who should be responsible politicians - get angry over "sharing formula" and simply declare things that plunge poor citizenry against themselves over tribe and religion.

For all we know, here is a disgruntled former APC member who has recently resigned from the party due to personal differences, possibly over the cake sharing; coming out to stoke embers of ethnic divide.

It is a shame. The President has told everyone to hold their governors responsible for development, but this ethnic bigot is too blinded to address that. The truth is that the percentage of the FAAC which all the governors collect is larger than what the FG gets. The difference is that the FG collects singly collects her share of the lesser percentage while the 36+1 States state their own pool of the bigger percentage that is nearly 60% of FAAC.

The fact is that the enormity of civil servants and MDAs which the FG has to service possibly explains some of this lopsidedness in the favour of the FG, but most State Governors have completely subsumed and alienated development at the most remote of local governments. What we have is that the State government take their thirty something percent of FAAC and add it to the twenty something percent for local governments in FAAC to their State JAACs.

At JAACs, they give crumbs to the local administrations in the councils, who largely exist at the mercies of the State Governors who impose them without elections, or with rigged State Electoral Body elections that has no opposition party winning any seat. The State then takes it upon itself to develop all the local governments from the centre at the State Capital, invalidating any possibility of development at the rural areas where the essential agricultural products come from. Naturally, development decreases as the distance from the state capital centre lengthens in this arrangement. This must change. We must ensure that the local governments work, and the President has sued the State Governors to the Supreme court to achieve this. Nigerians must realise the root causes of our problems.

This is one of the structural problem with Nigeria: not choristers or anything. Tinubu is no longer figuring for legitimacy which requires people to sing about standing on amy mandate. If anything, he publicly told people to shut up while singing the song. We must face governance squarely. There is a reason why campaigns are banned 24 hours to any elections and are not lifted until a few months before an election. Don't overheat the polity by feeding people with heresies or outright falsehoods.

The same way the man is singing was the same way Tinubu was singing with the same sentiments when Jonathan held sway.

1) They were deceived and not completely briefed on the atrocities to be committed. They never really got to know the real evil and clandestine motive of the coup until it was too late.
2) Over 90% of the coup plotters were Igbos
3) The people who were killed were leaders of other regions while sparing the corrupt Igbo leaders at the time
4) The people who benefited from the coup were 100% Igbos
