Obasanjo visits South-East Govs, moves for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

The South East Governors, on Tuesday, hosted former President Olusegun Obasanjo who paid the governors a solidarity visit while they decided to meet President Bola Tinubu to press for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Addressing the media, after over seven hours of marathon meeting, the Governors of the region who were all in attendance also set up a burial committee by Former Senate President, Anyim, Pius Anyim, for the late minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

According to the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma, “The Forum commiserates with the family of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo and indeed the entire South East region and entire the family of Ogbonnaya Onu on the demise of His Excellency Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

“The Forum received a delegation of the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, who came on a solidarity visit to this Forum.

“The Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the South East security and economic summit held in Owerri Imo state on the 28 September 2023 and agreed to implement the aspect of the report about security and economic integration of the South East region and affirmed its desire to put actionable plan on the key issues agreed.

“The Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss all pressing issues concerning the South East region. The Forum also deliberated and resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

Other members of the Ogbonnaya Onu burial committee included the former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amechi who serves as the Secretary of the committee, and other Igbo leaders drawn from the Igbo-speaking states.

Tinubu needs to release a PREEMPTIVE statement to nip this nonsense in the bud.

The statement should let EVERYBODY know that Kanu is being tried for TREASON and TERRORISM. As such, ANYONE who advocates for him would be treated as a TERRORIST and a TRAITOR to the country.

And that the FULL WEIGHT of the Nigerian Constitution would be visited upon such people and their properties.

That should shut them up for good.

It's DISGUSTING to see these idiots expending energy on pursuing the release of a TERRORIST while their people still bear the burden of his TERRORISM every Monday.

Okay. Safe journey to him. Perhaps the Ibo governors are tired of IPOB shooting their fellow kinsmen every Monday.

But they would have to go and beg Jibril Al Sudani in the Republic of Sudan. That was the man that jailed the dilector Nnamdi Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu is like a fly perched on a scrotum. Keep detaining him, wahala. Leave him, wahala. Kill him, and the country goes up in flames. No matter what they say or how they act. The guy is a puzzle. Obj is only doing his bit for the love of father land. Love him or hate him

Can we have fruitful deliberation on this platform without those kids rushing to post rubbish 🗑 on the first page.

The FG should enter into a political negotiation with Nnamdi Kanu just like America did recently with Julian Assange for espionage knowing that the impact of keeping him locked up is more than having him released based on certain agreed conditions.

For those advocating for detaining him perpetually, we should take a moment to look at it from the perspective of a resident of Anambra or Imo State who bear the brunt and not as a resident of Osun or Kano State who don't feel the pulse of locking him up and the bitterness of the writer below me

The release of Kanu is equal to forgetting Biafra forever….nobody is stupid, his ppl said Tinubu is not their president, they hate Yoruba ppl for no concrete reason, they dislike Hausa/fulani call them numerous bad names. They are the alpha and omega and no one come close.

They have more than 10,000 bigot sharing, propaganda sharing pages all over Twitter and Facebook, they want Nigeria to fail, bad news makes every 1 of them happy.

Obi their president should go release Kanu

As usual, watch how Reeno Omokrii will come up with a meaningless epistle of how Peter Obi was not invited in the meeting, as if PO is the president of the country. Man be disgracing his family and community back-to-back. Very predictable mofo!

What the elders see while sitting, the child even if he climbs an iroko tree, he won't see it. There are some issues that are best dealt with diplomacy. Obj is a man that saw the first civil war and would not want a repeat of such. Boko Haram grew wild because the government failed to handle it well when it started.

I support this move. We can't have the government rehabilitating bandits and boko haram members while Nnamdi Kanu is languishing away in prison.

If they can be released, then Kanu should be released as well.

Where are the Tinubu's supporters mesmerising over OBJ when seen with Tinubu's customised cap on his head recently? He had suddenly become yoruba and no more ibo. I've never seen such humongous number of illiterates and noise makers in my life.

Take it or you leave it, baba obasanjo remains the father of Africa. I met a togolese whose mum hails from ejigbo, osun state recently in Bronx, US, during my recent visit. He asked of OBJ. He said he remembered when he came togo to settle scores with Gnasingbe Eyadema and his rivals, and when he came to togo to pave the way for Faure Gnasingbe, the eyadema's son.

That's obasanjo for you. He does same all over africa. He's more respected outside than he is in Nigeria. I'm yet to see who wears that cap. The leaders we have are tribalist and they cut across all tribes.
