BreconHills:I think you need to take your own advice and improve your comprehension skills. I didn't say the bill was harmful to the masses, I said the word "tax" may trigger an uproar. Do you APC supporters read with your eyes closed ni? |

if the same executive team manages all the countries in the world , in the case of Saudi recovery from loss of oil revenue they diverted Saudi from oil revenue dependent economy to future tech incubator and smart city test ground. The same executive team in the case of Nigeria recovery from loss of oil revenue decided to focus collection of lost oil revenue from from the population who were already over 100 times poorer than Saudi citizens |

Until price of fuel returns to N200, bag of rice to N21k and dollar rate to N500 Tinubu's government won't be taken seriously by majority of Nigerians. No long epistle and grammar can solve the hunger and quagmire in the country. |

BreconHills:Perhaps you haven't heard of something called "herd behaviour" in Psychology. If the whole essence of Kenya's recent riot was caused by "Tax" what makes you think the word "Tax" won't trigger a riot in Nigeria too? How did the whole Arab Spring happened? Didn't it begin in Tunisia? How did the then coup that swept away about 3 civilian administrations in Sub-Sahara Africa begin? One country did theirs and the others began to follow suit. A sensitive government would gauge the mood of the people before releasing their policies because just a spark is enough to ignite the fire of revolution. But you know what? Why should one interrupt an enemy who is trying to hang himself? Tinubu and his gang of incompetent politicians can hang themselves for all I care. |

Sirheny007: Which nonsense Lagos magic. He turned the youths to touts and bus ticket collectors. He empowers some by buying keke napep okada etc. Then the major issue now is taxation. Tinubu is a tax master, all he knows is tax. No hope for nigeria as long as incompetent people are in power. I have said it. |
Re: President Tinubu Approves New Withholding Tax Policy by 7arrows: 3:11pm On Jul 02 |
ravensckar: That's his surname TAX. He did it in Lagos. And the painful part is that they wants the money for their pockets and not our benefit. |

Re: President Tinubu Approves New Withholding Tax Policy by Ikumapkayi: 5:18pm On Jul 02 |
Brendaniel: The challenge with this generation is that they react without facts. Nigerians have been experincing tough times with successive governments. OBJ you just reference increased fuel subsidy more than 3 times and increased the exchange rates as well. The only President that dod not increase fuel subsidy is President Yaradua and off course he meet a whoping reserve of over $66b. Always do proper investigation before you comment. |

Re: President Tinubu Approves New Withholding Tax Policy by Brendaniel: 6:16pm On Jul 02 |
Ikumapkayi: You think the fuel subsidy is the major problem here, that is the problem with you people, you would ignore important indices such as economy and focus on minor issues, Ask your self didn't OBJ increase salary, increased oil production to the highest Nigeria has ever produced and even surpassing the OPEC quota of 2 million barrels and sold excess crude and still saved, the 66 billion you talked about was saved from excess crude only .... Then also cleared all Nigeria's existing debts from about 35 billion to only about 2 billion dollars left, then also revamped the economy... That way even when he increased fuel price the citizens did not feel it like that, why ? Because he does his home work before taking such actions and you want to compare him and Tinubu who came on the first day of his tenure and removed subsidy without doing his homework.... You people just come out and be talking nonsense to defend nonsense after voting nonsense into power.... |
Re: President Tinubu Approves New Withholding Tax Policy by grandstar(m): 6:40pm On Jul 02 |
Frankly speaking, I feel withholding tax should be abolished altogether.i just see it as an extra tax. Nigeria should seek to be a low tax haven, especially with company tax. Federal government has no business with personal income tax. That's for the state governments jurisdiction. Federal government needs to slash company tax to 15% or less. Withholding tax on dividends should be removed |

BreconHills:Arthur Shopenhauer once said; "whenever you're bereft of ideas in an argument, attack your opponent...." Nice deflection tactics, but sorry, it won't work on someone like me. The matter under discourse is about Government's insensitivity, bringing in my "objectivity" is just to deflect. Nice try, but again, too shallow. Are we gonna stick to the talking point please? 1 Like |
Re: President Tinubu Approves New Withholding Tax Policy by BreconHills(m): 9:09am On Jul 03 |
ravensckar: What is the talking point. A straw man built on an historical inaccurate context. From the Ali must go student riots of 1978 to the endsars protest turned riots was a period of 36 years. In between those dates which large scale national protest happened in Nigeria? During the Arab spring were there similar protests in Nigeria? You are turning a statistical improbability into a theory. Pigs will fly before you see any national riots in Nigeria. Your double speak is a more rational basis for debate. |

BreconHills:Before replying you properly, permit me to share with you one thing I've learnt about the PARROT. The parrot was once assumed to be a clever bird because of its ability to repeat words. However, further studies have proven that notion to be incorrect. Why? Because a parrot only repeats words without actually understanding the import. It's not a creature of REASON. In the same way, anyone who throws words around without understanding its import is nothing more than a parrot. Now, to my reply; Firstly, the talking point was that using the word "Tax" at this critical point in time could ignite a violent protest since Kenya already had theirs. I backed up my point by citing the Herd Behaviour theory, the Arab Spring & the recent coup in West Africa. Rather than counter these with your points, you resorted to grammartical prolixity. Another deflection tool! Secondly, even a school dropout knows about the principle of cause & effect. Things happen because something prompted them to happen. All the previous protests that you referenced in Nigeria have their causes. But asking why the Arab Spring didn't ignite a similar protest in Nigeria is not only antithetical but also not in accordance with common sense. Again, even a school dropout can figure that. It's easier for a military coup to happen in Nigeria because it recently happened in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso & Niger than for Arab Spring to happen. Again, it's possible for a violent protest due to "Excessive Taxation" to happen in Nigeria because it happened in Kenya. This is called CORELLATIVE! Your Arab Spring citation isn't unless you didn't understand the context in which I used it previously. Thirdly, your statement "You are turning a statistical improbability into a theory". Although I find the above statement somewhat ridiculous, but having asked previously why the "Arab Spring didn't ignite protest in Nigeria". I have no doubt that you're inherently not gifted with a faculty of discernment. You're probably using CHATGPT to type your response. Hence, the reason why it's so disjointed. No offence, you type like a Junior Secondary School student. There wasn't any "statistical improbability" in my comment to begin with. As for the remaining parts of your response, they are a badly concocted gibberish that merely serves to inundate the receiver with confusion. You can do better please! In conclusion, every so-called political analyst and public affairs commenter must always apply the principle of logic in their argument. Lest they dish out jibber-jabber as a response. Your last two responses have exposed you as one who clearly doesn't understand logic. Forgive me if I choose not to reply you again. This is a waste of my precious time! |
