There are massive traffic jams on the approach roads to the Oworonshoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge. This is because the road that leads to that end of the bridge are flooded.

Motorists going from the Mainland to the Island through Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Third Mainland Bridge are stuck in massive traffic jams.

Moe @Mochievous

If your route this morning is mainland to island via 3MB, just forget it. Turn back home or reroute. I just passed by on the opposite side and the beginning of Third Mainland (iyana woro?) is car door height flooded. I’ve never seen that on the bridge before

Modified.

Tokunbo Wahab is the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment

Tokunbo Wahab @tokunbo_wahab

The Olopo Meji inward 3rd Mainland situation is a flash flood that is due to the high intensity of the rain, long duration rain coupled with high tidal lagoon level at the moment. Be rest assured it would go away in about 1-2hour. As the high tidal level of the lagoon goes down, the rain / storm water will be able to discharge into the lagoon.

Hustle, Respect, Loyalty @slybaba3

Tokunbo; What can be done to stop the flash flood.

Tokunbo Wahab @tokunbo_wahab

It’s like asking how can you stop rain from falling. It’s an Act of God. All you can do is to be careful when going out during the rain. NiMET has predicted a heavy rain this year. Thank you!

God help those in that flood....this isn't peculiar to Lagos or Nigeria.... flooding is very rampant all over the world as a consequence of climate change and Lagos is highly prone due to its sub sea level altitude.
