Schools in White Sand Estate, Isheri-Osun in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, have closed their doors, advising students to stay at home as heavy rains and subsequent flooding have disrupted activities.

White Sand Estate is one of the hardest-hit locations in Lagos, frequently experiencing severe flooding.

Wednesday’s downpour rendered homes flooded, with water reaching mid-level heights inside residences.

This severe flooding has left many residents trapped, unable to even sit down as their living spaces are submerged.

In response to the flooding, a school located in the area (name withheld), sent messages to pupils, advising them to stay at home due to the hazardous conditions of the roads and the school.

The message read, “Good morning dearest parents. Trust your night was splendid. Due to the downpour and a predicted serious rainy weather forecast today, we have decided to close the school and postpone today’s exam. As you can see, almost everywhere is flooded.

“As a school, we prioritise the safety of our geniuses above everything else. Consequently, the school bus will also not operate today. We are extremely sorry for all the inconvenience
.”

Our correspondent, who visited the area, reports that the streets are flooded, making it impossible for cars and motorcycles to navigate. Pedestrians face significant risks as the flooding obscures drainage channels.

The Public Relations Officer of the area CDC, Johnson Olabode, expressed his frustration, in an interview with our correspondent, saying, “We are at it again this year. Everywhere is filled with water. I have been up since 3am when the rain started, and all I could do was watch my house get flooded. We can’t even start removing the water until the rain stops.”

Olabode added that schools have notified parents to keep their children at home due to the severe conditions.

Another resident, who simply identified herself as Atinuke lamented as water flooded her living room.

“The rain has entered my house again. Just look at the environment. This is Whitesand Wstate in Isheri-Osun,” she lamented.

The flooding in White Sand Estate is a recurring issue, with the area suffering from poor roads, inadequate drainage systems, and lack of maintenance.

Residents have called on the Lagos State Government to urgently address the problem.

Another resident, John Adewale, added that the flooding had become a yearly nightmare for them.

Adewale saod., “This has become a yearly nightmare for us. Every time it rains heavily, we know our homes will be flooded.

“We’ve been pleading with the government for better drainage systems, but nothing seems to be done. we’re stuck inside with water everywhere.”

Many areas such as Iyana-Oworo, Oshodi, and Lagos Island are similarly affected, with activities brought to a standstill.

CIS in Lekki has become a nightmare.
My kids attended school only monday, tuesday and friday last week. The school just sent a notification on their app saying SUVs have to use the main gate and saloon/sedans go through the Amore road entrance.
Unfortunately the flood is more as a result of climate change and Lagos is sitting on the coast.
Its only going to get worse.
Spending millions on school fee yet the flood wont let them into school.
Moving them back to the UK is might just be best for them now.
Cant be getting calls everyday about flood.
I no wan hear say shit happen

That's why I am all for demolition of illegally constructed buildings blocking drainages. Mr Tokunbo Wahab should increase the tempo. These are good justifications.

Houses demolished for nothing

Exousiang01:

This is the retardness i am talking about.
I just sited an example of the family house of an Itshekiri man that was demolished in a similar post. Where did you hear that the man accused the government of chasing them away.
You people want to get special treatment in another mans land as what? You should be treated differently because you chose to be daft?

Any house sitting on any waterway should be pulled down no matter whose ox is gored.

It is stupidity spending millions to build house like a mad person.
You want Lagos to be like Paris and Luxembourg but you want to build houses any how like like you do in your villages, thats insanity....
Any house built against the state plan must be pulled down.
I have structures in Lagos, Ogun, Abuja and Benue, I was in Alausa the last time I was in Nigeria, I went there myself with the surveyor...

Climate change is hitting us and you people want to build houses like rats dig holes in the bush.
Go back to the East and do that rubbish. We in Lagos want to live in a sane environment

Did you see me talk about demolition?

see your other posts on your profile and see what I'm talking about ...

They shouldn't worry...!

Once the Coastal highway is completed, flooding will be a thing of the past in Nigeria! cool

Infact, the Coastal Highway will bring an end to:

- Food crisis and Inflation
- Unemployment
- Electricity crisis
- Terrorism and Insecurity
- Poverty
- etc.

if you have lived in Lagos long enough then you will know that even if all the houses in Lagos are demolished the problem of flooding will still be there.
I have lived in many parts of Lagos in the last 47 years and I know exactly what I am saying

It affected every known activities in Lagos State and it's environs.

If this news was from Anambra, some MorOns would blame PETER OBI who left Office since 2013. undecided

They always ask why Obi did not turn Anambra to Dubai,
as if Tinibu turned Lagos to Amsterdam or Paris. sad sad
