You friend is having Marital issue and you deliberately brought the case online.

Who does that

He is an interloper into his friend's marital affairs.

I mean!

How do you "buy your wife" into agreeing with you in a lifestyle that will bring trouble into your own home eventually? Even if its your wife advising you to marry the second wife, its you that ought to talk her back into her senses that Ifa says "okan soso lobinrin dunmo nile oko" and "orisa je ng pe meji obinrin ko si".

I'm not saying I'm perfect or there is a perfect man out there that doesn't have their weak moment, just don't justify it. say no and stay strong, avoid events or situations that can compromise your home, even if you are free to do anything and no one can convict you. you just convict yourself and be a good example.

We are free moral agent, don't allow religion to make you run your life anyhow.

Your personal opinion my friend, there are lots of happy polygamous homes, besides, dude is a Muslim from Kwara State

Oga Jarus nailed himself with those tweets.
As a man, if your wife refuses that you should have a second wife, you can divorce her; not begging, and then beating her when she goes blunt, as expected.

Your personal opinion too, if you have to look to what works in others' home, you can join that family if its not working the same way in your own home.

He's a born Muslim from a Muslim family, not Christian.

Muslims permit a polygamous marriage - A fact - Not a personal opinion.

Some polygamous families are happy - A fact - not a personal opinion.

Seriously seun, this should not be on the front page as the news is not even confirmed yet. Inviting someone does not amount to arrest. The least you can do for a friend who has contributed significantly to the growth of this forum is to show support in moment like this and not tarnish his image further by rushing to push this post to Nairaland front page.

Overall, Jarus should blame himself for this. No amount of provocation should have made him post on social media that he had been beating his wife. No matter what, there are things you should not say on social media. Hopefully, lessons will be learnt and this unfortunate phase of his life will pass. Again, men should seriously stay away from a second wife. A discreet side chick is far better than taking a second wife. One wife is enough trouble, stop looking for double trouble in a second wife.

No child of polygamous home is happy. None.
It's all about the greediness of the father that don't love his children.

Let the father die and you will see how psychologically messed up those kids are.
A friend from a polygamous background refused to marry till date. He hated his late dad with passion. Mum is second wife. Wonder how the kids of first wife will feel.
Nothing good cones out of polygamy except massaging ego and the ladies chasing after money and name.
Regina Daniel is a perfect example
She succeeded in chasing away the one she met cos she don't wanna share.

The Yoruba society have their own cultural orientation that does not support polygamy in any form of it, so if you bring your religion to Yoruba land, it is allowed but you will always have problem imposing your argument on their sensibility, nonetheless, you will always have your way if that is what you want, you are a free moral agent.

In your arguments, he can always be a polygamous, he can marry as many wives as he wanted or any one or system will prescribe. But sensibility demands for one man, one wife as a couple. But we can always do as we want using any available argument. However, when news like this breaks, its an opportunity to tell the truth using folks like this as example.

What is the history?

The matter long oh and am not a good story teller. The man has been beating his wife because he intends to take second wife and the woman is against it. Seun spoke against the beating because Jarus spoke about it publicly and showed no sign of remorse, from there he entered seun and the roforofo escalated like that.

Brother, that's a very far example. Just think about siblings of the same mama the same papa, like five in number from childhood to old age, where one parental property connects them together. Next, wait till they are old or when their parents are no more.

If this scenario portends a future problem for the siblings, then, you can imagine polygamy.

All these encouragement is just to help the men who are angry with their wives to be calming down because trying to solve one stupid anger or petty vendetta problem, you will cause a bigger, permanent one that will outlive you and rob all of peace of mind.

since she is from Ilorin, why is she against polygamy?

How many wives does her father have? Her brothers too...

You do not have to beat her tho
The same Islam that permits polygamy also permits wife beating.

So by Islamic sharia, Jarus has no case to answer.

Prophet Muhammad permitted wife beating and Allah commanded wife beating

"Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.
Sunan Abu Dawud 11:2142

"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

I am really suspecting that you are an associate or beneficiary of this Jarus guy?

I am saying this because you as a an active woman on Nairaland about woman affairs, have never condemned the wife beating or even the "by-force" polygamy.

Would you settle with a man that beats you?

Please don't even bother to reply. Hypocrisy has a bad odour

Welcome to the world of opportunistic feminism! cheesy cheesy cheesy

It seems you're the only one who doesn't know the so-called "women rights activists" on this forum. They are good at changing the goal post whenever it doesn't suit their narrative.

In case you're wondering why our NAIRALAND FEMINIST MOVEMENT never castigated JARUS for physically abusing his wife (their fellow gender). It's because he wasn't part of the #Redpill movement. He's the quintessential romantic guy to them. Hence, it's fine if he beats his wife once or twice. cheesy cheesy cheesy

Nairaland feminists are not to be taken seriously. They are nothing but a bunch of rabble rousers and opportunistic activists.

Imagine sey na one #redpiller beat him wife, you would have seen them screaming like a She-goat on heat period. Awon oniyeye gbogbo! cheesy cheesy cheesy

Hehe πŸ˜‚ this is funny, that's the result of not being matured enough to keep your marriage and relationship out of social media, reason I hate men that talks too much and don't know how to keep secrets.

Aside the beating which was his greatest mistake and undoing, he didn't do anything wrong in excercising his Islamic right. Every woman who marries a Muslim man should know this or strike an agreement to keep a monogamous family before marriage. Women should stop thinking for men and assuming things like my husband can't do such. The wife should secure his release.

Seun are you laughing now or what, I want to know
Wife beating is Islamic too

"Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.

Exercise his "Islamic right" grin people are fucking dumb mehn.

We all agree that racism is bad, that you can't subjugate someone based on race but Africans and Arabs are quick to subjugate their wives based on religion. smh
The woman is a Muslim and she knows that the Hadith and Quran it’s permitted for her husband to beat her. That is Islam

"Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.

Ooni of Ife, the Onirisa and custodian of Yoruba tradition is polygamous. Most of Yoruba obas are polygamous.

Now, slowly, tell me about the Yoruba culture on polygamy again.

Sensibility or otherwise is a matter of personal opinion, It was more sensible for Fela to mary more than 10 wives in a day for example.
