shortgun:
This will be an interesting case as Nigeria operates two different constitutions.
The penal code which is practiced in the north, which most Muslims regard as the authentic constitution gives a man the right to beat his wife.
While the criminal code which is for Southern Nigeria criminalizes wife-beating.
Thank you. Wife beating is Islamic

"Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.
Sunan Abu Dawud 11:2142

"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

since she is from Ilorin, why is she against polygamy?

How many wives does her father have? Her brothers too...

You do not have to beat her tho
Lol I hope she’s skilled enough to cater for the children if they separate
This dent on the man’s reputation will/could affect the family’s income
Office politics exists
Shortsightedness is bad when making decisions
Heard she was going to a witch doctor to spiritually tie her husband
People get mind o

Is second wife not better than side chick ?

Brother, that's a very far example. Just think about siblings of the same mama the same papa, like five in number from childhood to old age, where one parental property connects them together. Next, wait till they are old or when their parents are no more.

If this scenario portends a future problem for the siblings, then, you can imagine polygamy.

All these encouragement is just to help the men who are angry with their wives to be calming down because trying to solve one stupid anger or petty vendetta problem, you will cause a bigger, permanent one that will outlive you and rob all of peace of mind.
Thank you.

The same Islam that permits polygamy also permits wife beating.

So by Islamic sharia, Jarus has no case to answer.

Prophet Muhammad permitted wife beating and Allah commanded wife beating

"Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.
Sunan Abu Dawud 11:2142

Well, Nigeria is a secular state and part of UN.
That solves it.
We also have laws for wife beater.
Any beater be it man to man, man to woman, woman to woman, woman to man or adult to children

Ooni of Ife, the Onirisa and custodian of Yoruba tradition is polygamous. Most of Yoruba obas are polygamous.

Now, slowly, tell me about the Yoruba culture on polygamy again.

Ooni Of Ife wrote the precept of Ifa that says "okan soso lobinrin dunmo nile oko?"

From the first quote, its also sunah to beat your wife, do you?

I don’t beat my own wife because I’m not bound by Sunnah or the Quran but those who are under the sharia law and who hold the Quran and sunnah as religious books and laws are committing no crime if they beat their wives

It depends if you are in a Muslim country governed by sharia in which case it may be Sunnah/legal to beat your wife. Notice I am talking about the legality here in relation to your question.

Now for Nigeria, the law is the constitution, and beating of wife is considered an assault which is prosecutable under the Nigerian penal code.

I the two cases above, I would never beat a woman under any circumstances except my life is in danger and I am using extreme measures to defend myself.

UN declaration against domestic violence supercedes whatever. Nigerian is part and parcel of it. Nigerian constitution is against it.
I'm sure if I check well, OIC is against domestic violence too.
Just stop, you make no sense defending domestic violence based on religion.
It's disgusting.

No child of polygamous home is happy. None.
It's all about the greediness of the father that don't love his children.

Let the father die and you will see how psychologically messed up those kids are.
A friend from a polygamous background refused to marry till date. He hated his late dad with passion. Mum is second wife. Wonder how the kids of first wife will feel.
Nothing good cones out of polygamy except massaging ego and the ladies chasing after money and name.
Regina Daniel is a perfect example
She succeeded in chasing away the one she met cos she don't wanna share.
Archaic culture that has outlived itself in this modern time.

"No child of polygamous home is happy. None.
It's all about the greediness of the father that don't love his children."

Be careful what you say my friend as your assertions above dwell in the realms of the absolutes. All I have to do is show you just one happy polygamous home and your argument is easily disproved.

On the other hand, I can also show you thousands of monogamous homes that are very misreable.

My brother, our law dares Allah if it alienate wife beating, and by so doing we are never a slave of the Arabs or any Semitic laws. Remember that the Arabs were mushriks, (illiterates), when the Yoruba actually have a system of social guidance that passes as law from time, in form of ifa, which predates the advent of Islam in Yoruba land.

Now listen to what Yoruba proverbs says: "obinrin re seo, won nbe o loo nii gbo, se o fe kan an loogun ni" (your woman offended you, they are begging you and you refuse to listen, do you want to use a weapon on her?) So, touching a woman is as good as using a weapon on her or lying against her that she's using a charm on you.

If you wont beat a woman, you are not a good companion because you are only picking the option that will make you look good to the next woman on your list of marriage.

Most of you who come online and shout walk away are the real woman beaters. A man will always be a man, a woman should always know her place in marriage, maybe you're not married yet, no man enjoys beating his wife but most time you don't have a choice than to reset her brain to function normal again. I'm not in support of the beating but walking away is not that easy.

I disagree with you on this. What you describe here is an animal. Even when we dey primary school dat time, we go de abuse girls say na mouth dem get to provoke, your friends go abuse you if you follow woman fight. Wetin u de talk Why you think say men de comot house when woman vex dem for house?

I fit say man go lose temper but never ever justify beating women. Men no de do dat thing. Na 1 of the first things dem go teach u when u wan reason woman mata. Their mouth sharp but no fall for am

Persin wey u go do kerewa for night, u com de beat am. How u wan take enjoy am Na slave or BDSM angry

I read just now where OIC secretary General is preaching against violence to women. Search for it.
The world has moved on, move with it.
It's very hard to let go of once held custom but if that custom is not progressive, it should be abolished.
In tge western world, concubines ruled. Nigeria was a name given to us by a concubine. But concubine is as evil as it can be so it was abolished by them.
Christianity has its flaws also but they let go of so many ills. During the time of the bible and Koran, lots of things were normal then, but now they cannot be tolerated. In the next 60 yrs or less, I am sure that the generation then will outlaw what we see as right and good today. That is how progressive society works.

I agree with you. There is no reason to raise your hands on a woman. That is even considered criminal by most laws and I do not condone or advocate that position by any means. I never saw my dad beat my mom for one single day and do not support violence in any way.

I do not beat a woman, wife, child or a man. I am a strong advocate in communication and dialogue to resolve conflicts.

You friend is having Marital issue and you deliberately brought the case online.

Who does that

With what I’ve seen so far, it’s better to have an enemy than a friend like seun. Jarus is not even under arrest. He was simply invited by the police but Seun and nlfpmod quickly moved this to front page without any confirmation. To what end? A former moderator who still promote the forum for that matter.

Thanks very much dear brother. religion must bring out the best in us, not the worst. Either the indigenous or the foreign one. There are many flaws we have to abandon to move forward.

But that notwithstanding, it never means modern man is less crazy, but that at least, we should get it right, family wise, or else the other crazy set of people will use that as an advantage for their pride.

Aside from that, I hope the guy gets someone good people to sit him down and talk to him, he talks too much, loves the clout and showing off unnecessarily.

Has a lot of growing up to do.
