South East Senators Plead With President Tinubu For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release by Man102: 6:25am On Jul 04

Southeast Senators have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to order the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The delegation of 15 senators, led by former Abia State Deputy Governor and ranking senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, argued that the ongoing detention of Kanu is stalling social and economic activities in the Southeast region.

In a closed-door meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbem, SAN, the Senators emphasized the urgent need for Kanu’s release.

Abaribe, speaking on behalf of his colleagues after the meeting, expressed concerns over the deteriorating economic and social conditions in the Southeast, attributing it to Kanu’s continued incarceration.

Abaribe stated that Kanu’s peaceful agitation has been hijacked by criminals, leading to increased violence and loss of lives, including those of security personnel.

He said he met with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where Kanu agreed to comply with any conditions set for his release.

The former Deputy Governor expressed confidence that releasing Kanu would help to restore peace and stability in the Southeast, which has been troubled since Kanu’s detention in 2021.

Is it Kanu that will deliver to the South East the dividend of democracy?
I am yet to see anybody tell me why it important to release Kanu, instead of allowing the judiciary to do it work

Buhari released and reintegrated many of his terrorist brothers into the society and it is rumoured that a good number of them were recruited into the army.

NK is only asking for equal right, justice and fairness for the Igbo people.

You all don't see there's something fishy about all these meetings!!

I think there's a grand plan by Tinubu to release Kanu and this has been communicated to South East leaders! Tinubu has already sensed that this northerners are planning to remove the rug under his feet and few states in the South west cannot give him the required votes!

All these meetings are mere formalities!! Nnamdi Kanu will definitely be released soon! grin

I support the call for his release. The Attorney General can use his power of Nolle prosecui to discontinue the cases. He does not need to give the court any reason for doing that. The AG is a law unto himself.
That is the path of peace, this is progress.

Tinubu is not only under pressure from South east Governors. International leaders are pressing his neck, all Nigerian law makers are in unity for Kanu's release and state Governors from other regions too. You will be dumb to think that instability from a particular region does not affect others.
