Let me add two cents to this matter. I know for a fact that the Nigerian Foreign Ownership law has always impeded most US companies from opening subsidiaries in Nigeria. The law stipulates that Nigerians should own 51% of shares in a foreign subsidiary. I am not making this up people. I have attended various meetings where this issue was brought up. A foreign company wants to come and open a subsidiary in that country with their initial investment capital and some laws dictate that 51% of the subsidiary value should be owned by some outside people. Mind you 10-15% is the norm in most countries. but with the 51%, it ain't happening. Until that law is repealed I know for a fact no US company will ever invest in Nigeria. This particular law was passed if I recollect correctly sometime in the 1970's |

the long story can easily be summarised as follows: GSK's exit from Nigeria was primarily driven by a profit-focused strategy that had been in motion for over a decade. Despite citing forex scarcity and local competition, insiders reveal the decision was rooted in a long-term plan to reduce direct involvement in African markets, moving to a distributor model for higher profit margins. Efforts to sell shares and receive forex aid were rebuffed, indicating a premeditated and methodical exit strategy. The decision left Nigerian patients with limited access to essential drugs, demonstrating a prioritization of corporate profits over public health needs. |

All foreign companies are here to make huge profits (more than they can get anywhere in the world). They crave for cheap labour, they inflate the original cost of raw materials from sources and also ask for tax waiver. Yet after getting all these, it doesn't reflect on prices of their goods. Once their atrocities are detected, they find excuses to exit the business. There is no true manufacturing companies in Nigeria. What most of them do is assembling and packaging. Nigerians are to blame!!!. Whenever they get their I'll gotten wealth. They carry the whole money outside the shores of Nigeria rather than invest such into the country So also the stupid Nigerian AUDITORS, whenever they do yearly financial audits of these companies. They never presented the true financial findings in their report for the shareholders. They hid so many financial deals from the shareholders just because Brown envelopes had exchanged hands |

Stupid company, so they are done fighting local manufacturers. The competition they are afraid of has caught up with them. |
