Understanding Islamic (hijrah) Calendar by Lukgaf(m): 8:21am On Jul 05
Tomorrow, Saturday, or next Sunday marks the end of 1445 Hijrah. This implies Monday is the first of Muharram - the first day of the new Islamic calendar year - 1446AH. Although there's no special or grand celebration, as a Muslim, it's important to acknowledge the significance of the Islamic calendar and its months, which symbolize and count special events in Islam.

Here's a summary of the Islamic (Hijrah) calendar:

- The Islamic calendar is based on a lunar year consisting of 12 full lunar cycles, totaling 354 days.
- Each new year falls 10 or 11 days earlier according to the 364-day solar calendar.
- The 12 months of the Islamic year are:
1. Muharram
2. Safar
3. Rabi' al-Awwal (Rabi' 1)
4. Rabi' al-Thani (Rabi' 2)
5. Jumada al-Ula (Jumada I)
6. Jumada al-Akhirah (Jumada II)
7. Rajab
8. Sha'ban
9. Ramadan
10. Shawwal
11. Dhu al-Qa'dah
12. Dhi al-Hijjah

- The first day of Year One of the Islamic calendar was set as the first day of the Hijrah, the Prophet's migration from Makkah to Madinah on July 26, 622 C.E.
- The Western convention for designating Islamic dates uses the abbreviation AH, standing for Anno Hegirae or 'Year of the Hijrah'.

Conversion:

To roughly convert an Islamic calendar year (AH) to a Gregorian equivalent (A.D./C.E.) or vice versa, use the following equations from this website:

- AD = 622 + (32/33 x AH)
- AH = 33/32 x (AD - 622)

You Muslims like to claim that Quran is perfect. If it is perfect, it should also contain information on Islamic calendar.

I challenge you to show me where Quran dictates Islamic calendar to prove that it is perfect

Qur'an 9:36 Surely the reckoning of months, in the sight of Allah, is twelve months, laid down in Allah's decree on the day when He created the heavens and the earth; and out of these months four are sacred. That is the true ordainment. Do not, therefore, wrong yourselves, with respect to these months. And fight all together against those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity in the manner that they fight against you all together, and know well that Allah is with the God-fearing
