Rivers State House Of Assembly Ask INEC To Conduct Bye Election To Fill Vacant Seats.

The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo has declared that the State Assembly is appealing the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal on the jurisdiction of Rivers State High Court to hear the matter on suit number PHC/1512/CS/2024, describing it as a miscarriage of justice.

Rt. Hon. Oko-Jumbo made this known on Friday at the sitting of the Assembly in Port Harcourt, saying that the House has directed its legal team to urgently proceed to the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling by the Appeal Court.

He averred that contrary to speculations the Court of Appeal did not make any declaration that Martin Amaewhule and 24 others did not defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress neither did the Appeal Court also declare them as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Speaker emphasised that there cannot be two Houses of Assembly in Rivers State or in any State in Nigeria, adding that Amaewhule and his team in spite of all their pretences are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in line with the earlier declaration by the Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison which has not been vacated by any Court of competent jurisdiction.

"Once again, we, the legitimate Members of the RSHA hereby call on the Independent National Electoral Commission to promptly conduct a Bye Election to fill the vacant seats in the RSHA."

"We strongly urge the general public to ignore Martin Amaewhule & 24 others in their pretence that they are members of the RSHA"

Two bills, the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill 2024 and Rivers State Emergency Management Bill 2024 passed the first reading of the State House of Assembly.

Oko jumbo has taken the case to the supreme court to rule on JURISDICTION not the substantive suit. He knows fully well that the supreme court will agree with the appeal.

With all the court cases and judgement flying up and down.... There is no way Amaehule and 24 others will scale through this hurdles except they seek for political solution..
I wish and hope they learn their mistakes already and seek for the Rivers people forgiveness.

If you think those LG chairmen are coming back, forget it! We've said it here repeatedly.. they are not coming back with Amaewhule and co.. that one is a forgone conclusion unless Wike wants to burn down Rivers state.

The 1999 Constitution says 3 years for elected LGA chairman from the day he took oath of office.
Are you saying the Rivers LGA act is greater than the 1999 Constitution?

the assembly members extended the tenure of the chairmen by 6months how ever fubara prefer he wants his own men as the chairmen.That one is another constitution matter.The gov constituted a caretaker committee chairmen which the three men Assembly members ratified.Am sure u know there is a connection now if actually the three men Assembly are told by the court all they had done is illegal including the passing of the Budget.

So fubara that constituted caretaker chairmen has constitutional backing abi.You guys said something more than this when the river state high court sacked the 27guys before a higher court told the state high court they got no constitutional right to hear such a case so automatically the three men Assembly as constituted is illegal to even start with.
