Mankind2024:
My view on International Breweries plc.
I'm borrowing a word from the legendary investor, Peter Lynch, who opined that the best way to make money from the stock market is not to get scared out of it. I'm sitting on a 33% paper loss on my investment in IB since 2017/2018, when I bought 10,000 units at N48 per share. I have been averaging down on this value-trapped stock. Reading Peter Lynch's book titled "Invest in What You Know", I resolved not to get scared out of IB, which I strongly believe will soon trade below N3.50 once the unjustifiable rights issue is completed. This is when I would start averaging down again. I am not getting scared out of IB until the company is delisted. My message to the management of this good company with bad management is that they should be ashamed of themselves and resign en masse.
With the look of things, Wale Tinubu might have repented, while the same cannot be said about the clueless managing team of IB plc.
I respect your opinion and stance. In fact, I salute you..

However, kindly consider and take some time to think about the opposing view to have a good balance of opinions...

I'll end by saying that a man who is head over heels in love with his girlfriend is usually the last person to notice that she is cheating on him...

#Selah...

@yMcy56, how are you doing? I hope your weekend was awesome. Are you emotionally or financially attached to your investments? Lol.
Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to identify a bad management team in Nigeria's listed companies. What red flags or signs do you look out for?

Apologies for butting in... I'm not @Mcy56 but this might help...

Thanks Doc for bailing me out.
Wetin the Oga dey ask me pass my level, maybe he wanted to quote Pa Emma 😁

My Oga Mankind2024, like Doc said, kindly try and look into opposing views as well, it can only make you much better in this journey and equip you with ability to make better informed decision on your portfolios.
I've been reading part of the arguments and I can see that you're so much rooted to your views alone, trust me, you'll pick one or two useful hints from all these back and forth if you look much deeper.
Don't vex for this pls.

I think a situation where one can be emotionally attached to a stock is when the Financials are good, improving or solid management or name is behind it ordinarily........or strong indication that something positive will come out of it
I get emotionally attached to a stock when some of these factors are at play.....and I think it has worked out fine over time in more cases...

Well, over all, in NSE one can never say never sha.......

If I remember other things, I go add am. πŸ˜‘

Thanks for the podcast link! The message was well-delivered, but I have some reservations. Evaluating a good company and CEO might be challenging in our context, especially since I'm based in Abuja and can't easily access companies in the Southern region.
With my limited investment capital, I can't conduct thorough checks like Charles Munger's framework. I rely solely on mass media and financial reports in my amateur assessment of companies.
However, your insights were very helpful, and I appreciate your expertise. Keep up the great work. Bravo!!!!

Thanks for the advice, Madam yMcy56! You're right, considering opposing views( audi alteram partem) crucial in making informed decisions. I appreciate your concern and willingness to help me grow. You're right, I have been quite steadfast in my views, but I'm open to learning and improving (Discendum) I'll take your suggestion to heart and delve deeper into the discussions, seeking valuable insights from all perspectives.
Thank you for keeping me grounded and encouraging me to be more objective. No vexation here, only appreciation for your guidance.

Why is no one mentioning TradeZero?

I have an account with which I haven't funded though. I wish there was a way to put an affiliate link so that I can earn some small commission from this recommendation.

Thanks .What about US stocks,i need other options from trove, chaka and bamboo.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mankind2024: 8:19pm On Jul 07
Trade Zero would only open a trading/cfd/option/leverage/ account for Nigerians.
Investment account? Nope

I believe the person I quoted mentioned US stocks, Tradezero should be a good alternative to the options he listed

If you are a trader, then you are good to sail.
It takes less than 10 minutes to complete the account opening.

I was able to check TRANSPOWER's Q1, what I can say is HOLD and be patient.
If you are large and have spare funds, be topping your stakes as it's probably going down.
At current -10% in market, pick some if the fund is there....... medium to long term is looking good.
*Q2 will give more pointer.

PS: If you want figures and breakdown, consult PA Emma, Oga OGG or any of the gurus. Na my own amateur view I just talk.
Happy Sunday!

What makes a great company? Having a good product is not enough, management is key....and money always follow good management. It seems you are emotionally attached to IB. If not, there was enough time for you to cut your losses on the downward journey from N48 to N4..

I will rather back a good management and bad product; as it is easier to pivot your products across industries than to get rid of a bad management that is deeply entrenched/vested in a company.
This can be likened to a case of a great country with natural and human resources;but the country has been bedevilled by corrupt, selfish and clueless rulers or politicians!

A company not making profit has bad management.

NASCON STOCK PRICE IS SLOWING DOWN
The stock price is slowing down at a support level. A price rejection this week will form DB and that is an indication of the readiness of the stock to rally.

Thanks my Oga for this, I'm humbled.

When I read thru some of the views, what I saw from the contributors was simply to make you better and critically analyse a stock objectively like you said.

Boss, this small me have had course to argue with the likes of Pa Emma (more like a privilege for me) 😁 in some stocks when I consider it good to go.........which may not even be about numbers but some other factors not connected with financials ........the financials may even still be nowhere near the gurus expectations self (e.g. Geregu when listed). 😁

@Currentprice will say, he doesn't mind joining a stock when the bus has started moving only when he's convinced and bedsheet starts flagging it.

You can still follow what works for you since you're a long termer......just saying you should also consider other views as well, may not even be about yourself alone, but to be able to advice someone else with a balanced view as well.....like Doc said.

You should be asking why is the guy at AIICO earned that much at over N200 million per annum.

CEO remuneration should be determined by the size , profitability and growth of the business

Thanks Myc for working on your weekend to answer my question. I do agree with your HOLD recommendation. I am more of a TA person. I looked at the daily trading patterns and I am convinced that there are people who are actively holding the price at current level. I believe those people are capable of moving the price up when they are ready. Have a fruitful trading week.

My bosses,I am beginning to like some terms these days like FAMILY BANK, FAMILY TRUST, FAMILY OFFICE....

Teach me...i want to learn how these can work here in Nigeria[ minimum capital to start, how to set it up,companies that can do it] Most Africans have sole-proprietorship mentality but with a nuclear family culture. So, wealth is rarely passed to the next generation, to the fourth generation is unthinkable. Writing wills has its problems too[ one guy takes his own share, sells it, and continues to smoke ganja grin-The Bible said fool and his money soon part ways. I WANT A SITUATION WHEREBY NO ONE IN THE FAMILY SELLS NOTHING... ONLY BUYING AND ADDING ON EXISTING ASSETS AND PROFITS OR DIVIDENDS ARE SHARED AT THE END OF THE YEAR...To the next generation,,,to the next generation.....i love my family thats why i want a generational wealth for her

I BELIEVE WE HAVE EXPERIENCED FINANCE EXPERTS HERE, PA EMMA and co. Please, no dm me ooooo. Share all knowledge here please
