What made him among the greatest, that's my question

Roberto Carlos can hit a fantastic screamer but I have seen him cooked many times like of he can't even mark. Go watch Ronald de Boer cook him in France 98 so badly that his coach told him to stop trying.
which defender both past and present have never been cooked before?

Even our own Yakubu manhandled vidic and Rio many times in the epl then when the duo were among the best in the world in terms of defending

Fernando Torres single handedly mauled Vidic severally then when the United CB was among the best in the world

Our own Obafemi Martins was too hot for a whole Jaap Stam to stop when he was with inter as a rookie

Canavaro after been crowned the best in the world and got a move to Madrid was disgraced by a young IK Uche in the colors of recreativo huelva then

Rest abeg

Simple point.

Defending is now improved and defenders do more than just defend.

Finito.

So you were there when they ask Carlos to left him and defend the goalpost

Inukwa!!!! it is well πŸšΆβ€β™‚πŸšΆβ€β™‚πŸšΆβ€β™‚

Simple tactical understanding. Carlos was repeatedly cooked and then left Ronald de Boer to go and block header. He can't take such decision without coaching instruction.

The most stellar Messi was in the beginning of the system and he actually was playing for it. Not against it. As time went on, Messi had to keep going deeper and cutting down on his dribbles.

Towards the end of his time at Barcelona, virtually operating like a midfield passer. People mix-up early Guardiola days to the era. What we are dealing with now is after Guardiola left Bayern, where the system is totally studied and adapted.
But Germans have always been known to play with so much intensity, press and running that's why the name German machine. So even the intensity, fitness running around is not a new thing.

I have seen Messi on a one-on-one chance to score with gap and Pepe run, meet up with Messi and collect the ball.

Last season, we saw a case where Rodrygo was through on goal, and Akanji pursued him and retrieved the ball.

The game is faster now.
All this your illustration no enter abeg, this are situation's you can find even in football of the 80s.game is faster now but Rodrygo of the modern era was slow.

improved defending but concede more, make it make sense. Haland and Salah could score 30goals against improved defenders.

He is 17. Relax. Boy is genuinely talented. First time impressions can be misleading sometimes in football. I know from Talent ID-ing experience.

The biggest young talent from Brazil at the moment is Estevao Willian from same Palmerias Endrick came from. Boy is a dazzling creative winger they call Messinho. Bad-ass talent.

But Endrick is a 9 and he will prove you wrong. I have watched enough of the young talents from Brazil from Endrick, to Victor Roque (before he joined Barca), to Estevao to Gabri Moscardo to wesley to Savio and others to know Endrick and Estevao are truly genuine articles.

And this is talking Brazilian talents alone. Argentina has Claudio Esheverri and Ecuador has Kendry Paez.

Give it time. Vinicius was also termed average and I am sure you would have tagged him overhyped when you saw him first in Europe. Look at Vinicius now proving everyone who doubted his talents wrong.

Marjoribanks:
The first time I watched that Endrick play, I knew immediately that he is average as they come.

Is Vinicius a joke to you? Brazil missed Vinicius against Uruguay. No caps. I thought it was over with Neymar fading until Vinicius arrived on the scene. Vinicius is taking over the Neymar mantle as Brazil's new main jogo bonito super star.
