I have been making alot of reflections about Nigeria, its direction and what the future holds for the country.

I will use the opportunity to talk about alot of characters, I am of the igbo tribe, I would say what we did well and what we did not do well, and I would talk about others too.

Nigeria is currently in shambles, some days ago a matured man who visited Nigeria told me, we are currently enjoying. I looked at him as the enemy, cause for him to say we are enjoying at a time when people are in agony and poverty, to the extent that people started taking their lives. He explained to me, and gave context to his comment Nigerians are enjoying. What he explained was that:

“In the early 2000’s Nigerians thought they were suffering, African china was singing lead us well and food no dae. This is 2024 and the situation is 50times worst than the early 2000’s and Idris Abdulkareem is singing ebi pawa lokan, in the next 20years when he comes Nigeria would have gotten 100times worst, it would reach a situation where the suffering maybe in 2050, would make what we are suffering in 2024 look like enjoyment”.

I settled down sat back and thought about what he said, his words kept giving me sleepless nights as u thought about not just myself, but my family. I started looking for answers on how we got here.

Nigeria is dying, Apc or Tinubu cannot save Nigeria, Tinubu is here to do the ceremonials of saying he achieved his ambition of being Nigerian president. Not much would change under Tinubu government. Reason not much would change is that Tinubu government is not divine. You can’t come to power, on the back of bloodshed, corruption, hate, tribalism, division and bigotry like never seen before in Nigeria’s history and expect to succeed.

There’s a reason under Tinubu government, after he took power, was a coup happened in Niger, there’s a reason why it was under his tenure as ecowas president 3Nations broke out of Ecowas. There’s a reason all of a sudden companies that have been through heaven and hell in Nigeria for decades from military to civilian governments, yet they started leaving during his tenure. It’s because his government is not divine.

Obasanjo is the best President Nigeria ever had, Obasanjo is the Awolowo of his time, I think Tinubu is the Akintola of his time.

I would explain this in the next write up where u go into what really happened in 1966 and Nigeria after it. I would try my best to be absolutely unbiased.

We are indeed enjoying now compared to what will come, but Nigeria will not die.

When Nigerians' suffering reaches like 1000 times what it is today, we will finally understand that our politicians are not the messiah, and that every one of us must bear our own cross to save ourselves and our country.

And then shall we make our Nigeria the land of unsuffering.

Back in the 60's and 70's, military coups were common place. Every country in West Africa, with the exception of Cameroun, has military coup. Military coups still happen in Africa to this day

Obasanjo who became military dictator due to the Dimka coup, and participated in Murtala Mohammeds second coup, was elected President

Nigeria has a long history of honouring coup plotters, they only remember that coup is bad when January 1966 coup is mentioned

Trust me Awolowo would have been no different from tinubu

Maybe the economic index might have been better but he is same as tinubu they have same mindset

In fact Awolowo is worse... He is the originator of this infrastructure virus socialist virus that have suffocated Nigeria

Awolowo might be less corrupt than tinubu but he is no different

Mr Coldie, long time.

I Quite agree with you that Tinibu is the Akintola of our time. smiley

Akintola colluded with the Hausa/FULANI Political Lords to Acquire Power, thereby Putting Awolowo in prison.

If not for The Coup by Nzeogwu and Others which Murdered all his Enemies,
Awolowo would have roasted in Jail and DIE like Abiola. embarassed embarassed

Afterwards, Instead of Awolowo to Respect them, he joined Forces with Yakubu Gowon and Starved the IGBOs during the Civil war. undecided

This is the Reason why most IGBOs came to hate Awolowo. sad

As a Widely Respected African Statesman, he should have remained NEUTRAL in the War, just like Nnamdi Azikiwe cleverly did.😒🙂

Awolowo was a VISIONARY. He had Great Ideas of what he wanted Nigeria to become.🤨

Democratic Socialism simply means Giving the Masses Power to determine how they want to be Governed.🙂

The Greedy, Capitalist Govt of Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa, Festus Okotie-Eboh,etc couldn't stomach such an Idea. sad

In many ways, Awolowo is like PETER OBI of today.

Re: I Finally Found Out The Truth About The January 1966 Coup. by Coldie(m): 2:38pm On Jul 08
January 1966 coup took place that saw the deaths of prominent figures from all over Nigeria, Except the eastern region. All the coup plotters were southerners and majority were of Igbo extraction.

For decades I kept reading people make accusations and counter accusations of if it was an igbo coup or not. I decided to look deeper. My findings are as follows:

Many Nigerians don’t know this but at the time when Nigeria employed merit in alot of things, at a time when justice and fairness was the order of the day, at a time when Nigeria never spoil, when corruption was minimal, when we were able to be a prospering economy even without being an oil producing nation, Nigerians thrived but one stood out amongst all. The igbo man. This standing out brought envy, hatred and plots against the Igbos simply for just thriving in a fair system. I would explain as we go on.

The interior east was amongst the last places that education got to, northerners and westerners have been educated long before easterners. Northerners were educated in the Islamic way, whether it’s not the western or secular education, they already had the culture of learning, westerners were amongst the first to meet the British, education penetrated the west far before the east. But when education got to the east, the speed it was embraced was so much that westerners that originally were educated earlier, had to declare free education to catch up, it reached the extent that during the progroms in the north, how they identify an igbo man is speaking English. As a result of this education, it gave igbos an edge in an impartial and fair world run by the British. Many people don’t know this but before 1967 igbos/Easterners used to make up 60% of the army. This was because entry into the army in the past required that u have a certain level of education, and igbos had it in abundance then. Igbos not just made up majority in the army, Igbos held high offices in the army.

Naturally if you guys are a majority in the army and hold the major posts in the army, any thing happening in the army would involve you. The 5majors were wrong in truncating our democracy and ushering in a military regime that would cause problems down the line, but that’s a story for another day. My major work here is to explain why it might look as an igbo coup but it wasn’t intended to, they were right and they were wrong.

All the victims of the coups except the casualties like people whose wives were caught in the cross fire m, the victims smhw instigated their deaths. Though I wish it never happened.

Ahmadu bello, I support him on certain things and I am against many things he did, I support the norths stance on Nigeria not being ready for independence, I am against Ahmadu bello dividing Nigerians after independence, after independence Ahmadu bello did an interview, and he talked about igbo domination, in this interview: he says if there are 10labourers in a camp, and one is igbo, within a year the igbo man would try to emerge as head of the camp, he didn’t accuse the igbo man of trying to steal from the camp, how is an igbo man’s individual effort to succeed a bad thing according to him? This his remarks is part of what made him a target. The second one involves his participation in the western crisis. Here I would bring in Sir Akintola.

Sir Akintola was the premier of western region, at a time when they had their action group, while Obafemi awolowo was of the opinion of extending the had of the west towards the rest of the south, Akintola was of the opinion that they extend it towards the north, during this period Akintola a power tussle between akintola abd awolowo erupted and akintola ended up getting voted out of power. After he was removed from power him and his followers got violent and that was how the western crisis started. During this the federal government intervened, if u read up what I wrote above and even read up history, the antagonist here is Akintola, but what Tafawa balewa the then prime minister did was to arrest awolowo and charge him for treason, this is pure injustice. An election was done while awolowo was away and there was massive rigging, voters suppression and violence, the people that were seeing the people ontop do all those things while they followed orders were the military. And who make up majority of the military then “Igbos”. All these happened and Akintola was put back in power. This actions here was part of what I think made Akintola a target of the coup.

Sir Tafawa balewa, he was the prime minister the man at the top, tafawa balewa might be the man ontop but he was put there by Ahmadu bello, the votes that got him into power were from his npc party which was northern people party, which was the region Ahmadu bello ruled over. Tafawa balewa actions of declaring a state of emergency on the west over an isolated incident that happened only in Lagos which obafemi awolowo cried out against, his role in putting akintola back in power depute his atrocities and rigging of the western region elections, was what I think made him a target.

Sir festus Okotie eboh, back then the number one most attacked person on the media attacked by opposition [mainly the west] was festus eboh, reason is that he was the minister of finance and he was known for his extravagant lifestyle and had some corruption allegations against him, i think his name being the first poster boy for corruption was part of what made him a victim.

These above are the major victims of the 1966 coup. Everything I told you make ur personal research I can debate with anybody who thinks otherwise, make ur research and you would know they were guilty, only mistake those military officers made was taking laws into their hands.

The reason why there was no major igbo leader as victim.
Nnamdi azikiwe as at then was out of the country, Michael okpara then premier of the eastern region was not involved in the crisis. The crisis was a north/south west alliance push gone sour. So do you expect the young majors back then who thought they were fighting for Nigeria future, a future without tribalism and corruption, to just locate Sir Michael okpara and kill him for nothing just because they want the killing to be fair?

It has been said many times, it’s a fact, the coup plotters who survived said it many times, the original goal of their coup was to put Obafemi awolowo back in power, if this was an igbo agenda y would they go through such stress to put a non igbo into power? The major things those young military officers did back then was:
Taking matters into their hands, which was a big mistake, another mistake they did was killing, arresting the leaders should have been the last resort, but resorting to killing is what made things worst.

Say the truth?

Even after the coup was stopped, if it was an igbo coup, since Igbos were the majority in the army as at then, y then did Major Aguiyi ironsi, surround himself with northern soldiers, if really it was an igbo agenda, won’t he surround himself with igbo officers?

The counter coup came, it was karma, do me I do you, but the following actions I think is part of what sealed Nigeria’s coffins. Nigeria owe the igbo tribe an apology, no matter how much everybody tries to deny or say otherwise.

The counter coup came, ok it’s the vengeance of the people avenging their leaders, you have killed igbo leaders and prominent men in power like igbo did yours. It didn’t stop there these people went on to start killing Igbos on the streets everywhere they could find them, alot of Igbos escaped many parts of Nigeria back to the east, no doubts northerners were killed in the east too as retaliation. What is the relationship between the easterner selling in a shop trying to feed his family and what happened in the military barracks. How Nigeria died and many nonsense started:

The reason for the first coup is explained above from my findings: the reason for the counter coup doesn’t have any reasonable explanation apart from revenge. After ironsi was killed the were to appoint a new military head as the law says, but they put the law aside and appointed a junior officer over a senior officer, ojukwu was against this, you would think ojukwu being against this is because he is supposed to be the one appointed, the answer is NO. The person that was the next ranking person after Ironsi was a westerner, they jumped over him and others and appointed Gowon who was a junior officer to them as at then. This here was what started Nigeria’s era of nepotism, where people’s rise in government isn’t done by merit but based on you coming from certain tribe or region. As the went on we went on to start seeing cases where someone who is illiterate would hold prominent government offices responsible for very important matters simply because of the tribe or region they come from.

The civil war came, we know the story, I won’t talk much in that, with my research I want to address what I found out on why the Biafran forces marched towards the west. The major reason was to capture the Nigerian capital which was Lagos at that time, cause as time went on alot of people talked about how Biafra tried to invade the west.

The major reason am putting this here is am of the beleive that for Nigeria to be liberated we need to settle the differences, we don’t care where the leader of Nigeria comes from, but our issue is if the person to save Nigeria is to be an igbo man, this culture of Nigeria being suspicious of Igbos and thinking we have an agenda needs to stop, no real igbo man want to break Nigeria, even Nnamdi Kanu doesn’t beleive he can break Nigeria, today today if they say Nnamdi Kanu this is Biafra go, I bet u igbo land would empty cause alot of people know the repercussions of secession.

We igbos are not anybody’s enemies.

It saddens my heart alot, at how much Nigeria has fallen, and with the way the country is going am scared of what is to come. Imagine in your 50’s you come out to vote and people are still snatching ballot boxes, poor electricity, inflation spiralling, corruption.

I haven’t been online for some time but my frustrations made me put this here, someday anybody who asks questions would know the truth.

The reason I say obasanjo being president to me is like a fulfilment of awolowo dream smhw, while Tinubu being president is A fulfilment of Akintola dream.

The energy that revolves around obasanjo is synonymous to the energy that revolves around obafemi awolowo. Awolowo to me is one of Nigerias great, if we look at the embodiment of a true Nigerian leader awolowo is him.

Truly with the actions of Tafawa balewa and npc of then, I am not surprised that he tried to make an alliance with the whole south to remove the npc from power.

I don’t know how people call sarduana of sokoto one of Nigeria’s true leaders when he was amonst the first leaders to start spreading tribalism and bigotry openly, I don’t know how people see akintola as Nigerias true leader when he is the first politician to bring violence and thuggery into politics.

Let the people judge for themselves.

As much as I respected sarduana of sokoto, he did good things for his people, but if u leave looking at Nigeria from the point of view of a northerner and look at it from the point of view of a true Nigerian.

You would know that some of the people we refer to as leaders truly aren’t.

1. Ibos were not the only people in the army, all the counter coup consisted of Northern military officers 😂

2. Ironsi surrounded himself with his kinsmen after the coup.
At the early stage of his tenure, he appointed a three-man advisory team made up of Chief Francis Nwokedi, a Permanent Secretary, Dr. Pius Charles Nwabafor Okigbo (1924-2000) and Colonel Patrick Anwunah, who later became Chairman and Head of the Orientation Committee at that time.

He replaced the then Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Taslim Olawale Elias (1914-1991) with Chief Gabriel Chike Michael Onyiuke (SAN), former Director, Public Prosecution, Eastern Nigeria (1960-1965) from Nimo in the present Anambra state.

3. Out of the 22 killed in the coup, only 1 was Ibo. The premier of the eastern region Michael okpara was even spared unlike the premiers of the west and north that were murdered.

4. The handing over of the government to Ironsi by Orizu (the acting president and the senate president who could have called for the formation of another civilian government).

5. The unification decree of May 1966 promulgated by Ironsi, leading to the abolition of regional system of government - Historically speaking, the West and North have always believed in the regional system of government as the best form of government for a multiethnic like Nigeria, however this was taken away by Ironsi, leading to a massive outrage and pogrom in the North. Unification decree favoured the ibos as they don't stay in their region like the others.

6. The coup plotters were kept in Jail but weren't sentenced to death.

You people should stop trying hard to revise history.

One day am going to join ohaneze, if our people can listen to someone like me alot would change.

Our people owe awolowo an apology. Where we are wrong on awolowo. This is the reason I don’t go all out and prefer to block Yoruba ronu people than start insulting Yoruba tribe, every era every generation an awolowo and an akintola is born, if because of an akintola u start attacking every Yorubas u would stop future awolowos from being born. To me the best way to solve Yoruba ronu issue, is with love not by hate, ignore the Yoruba ronus and shower love to the true ones for the love they show to others. Allow the hateful ones to wallow in hate.

Before I digress: y I think Igbos owe obafemi awolowo an apology:

Back then information was limited, and deep thinkers were few who think things through.

Awolowo was sent to prison and charged with treason becaue he tried to form a southern alliance which we were part of. To me this is the first apology we owe him.

Second one: people say awolowo was responsible for the starvation policy, a war without starvation policy lasted over a year we were in misery and dieing a slower death and a war that starvation policy ended sooner.

Thirdly if it was left to some people after the civil war ended it’s go fvck urself, but awolowo made sure we were given some money to stand on our feet after the war ended, sth that was eventually known as the 20pounds saga. People say 20pounds and people just think 20pounds in 20 pounds, but what actually was the value of 20pounds back in 1970. That apart I beleive sth bigger was proposed but they ended up in 20pounds.

One last thing: the fact that when igbos returned to the west, their properties and assets were preserved and returned to them.

This made me have far much more respect for him.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo, if any of ur descendants are reading this just know igbos have ur respect. Some Igbos might have other views about him but I am a true igbo man and I say this to you.

Igbos started the coup,
You don't blame the flood, you blame who broke the dam.

I know u are trying to bring laughs and jokes and distract us from the facts.

Where did I say igbos were the only people in the army?

Where did I say the counter coup did not consist of northern military officers?

My point here is: they did wrong no doubt but when u look at the big picture of why they struck vs why the counter coup struck are igbos really the villains as Nigeria has painted us to be?

For ages the narratives has been that Igbos just masterminded wake up one day killed leaders of other regions for no reason then spared ours.

If the flood has come and gone y then is it that whenever an igbo man wants to aspire for certain positions in Nigeria, they remember the flood again. We had to address certain issue for peace and reconciliation, I don’t like how Nigeria is going.

When u talk about it they blame Igbos for the first coup, ok since others are ruling and don’t want to fix the damage they said Igbos caused y not allow Igbos fix the problem. No

When I said surrounded himself with northerners, his own ADC was a northerner, there’s a reason y when they came for him in Ibadan, the officers guarding him were majorly northern officers. In an igbo majority army how then are ironsi’s guards majorly northerners?

3. Out of the 22 killed in the coup, only 1 was Ibo. The premier of the eastern region Michael okpara was even spared unlike the premiers of the west and north that were murdered.

I didn’t mention that an igbo man was killed too in the so called igbo coup, but it’s a good thing you reminded us that an igbo man was part of the casualty of what was referred to as igbo coup.

I explained what fingered the premier of northern region and western region into being targets for the coup and the prime minister too. And it was a fact that they did those things, though they didn’t deserve what happened to them.

What then should be the reason y Michael okpara that didn’t do anything against anybody should be killed?

A west north alliance lead to violence and an innocent man was unjustly charged for treason and imprisoned, and the guilty one was cleared and put in power because he supports a north west alliance.

How does Michael okpara come into play in all these when the people responsible are in the camp of the north and west?

😆 🤣 😂 😹....lol....
When you started this your thread,I honestly thought you were about to retrace your steps, make a clean break from the past Ibo hobby of shifting blame on other tribes while trying to play the victim. Your write up as usual was filled with the usual IPOB/Biafra propaganda/Ibo supremacist lies and innuendos. I guess it is useless to expect anything different from an Ibo man.
As usual in your tales the end beneficiary of the lopsided Ibo January 1966 coup was to be Obafemi Awolowo.(The usual Ibo victim playing).
This Awolowo as a beneficiary of the Ibo 1966 coup is just an after thought of Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna to justify their blood thirsty actions.
You also tried to play your usual victim card by claiming the arrogant and cunning Ojukwu insisted on Brigadier Ogindipe taking over when Ironsi was overthrown. So what you are implying is that Ojukwu went to war because he wanted a Yoruba man to take over from Ironsi and become the head of state. Do you see how you guys play this propaganda card.
In your opinion now,The January 1966 Ibo coup was executed because of a Yoruba man. That is to say Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu killed all the politicians and senior military men of other tribes while cunningly exempting Okpara, Azikiwe, Orizu, Ironsi and others because of AWOLOWO!
This revision of history can not work in 2024. It might have worked in the past after the civil war because other tribes Sat by while the Ibo intelligentsia like Achebe, Ekwensi and Chukwumerije put out twisted and warped versions of events while presenting the Ibo as victims.
Ibos are no victims, you are aggressors, masquerading as victims.
And while at it OP,I would like to ask you the relationship between Ifeajuna and Nnamdi Azikiwe? The answer will give you the clue to who.tipped off Azikiwe to travel out of the country a few weeks before the January 1966 coup!

We are not fighting, my point is we igbos are nt fighting anybody, I can’t start trying to explain or trying to gas light anybody, I am simply stating my findings.

Y ironsi did the rest of what he did, I do not know.

He is not innocent too, maybe that’s what made him a target marked for death just like leaders from other regions were marked for death for their actions.

So we are all even. My point is trying to address the fact of what the leaders of western and northern region did that made them die, it’s also good u have told us what aguiyi ironsi also did to make him die.

Thanks

Obasanjo is Nigerias best president.

However did you think you can force a horse to drink? That's the mistake of Nnamdi Azikwe - A vaccine that set out to fight virus but eventually got subjugated and consume by the Virus numbers!
If someone says he's okay with redundancy, Tribalism, Bigotry, Religious intolerance etc leave them alone and develop yourself instead! It is not a must that people with different Political, Cultural, Social, Religious and Geographical background should exist as one!
Scheming and Manipulating, trying to force the North alongside others is the reason for the whole county's redundancy!

Tell me where you think I lied.

Was awolowo not imprisoned unjustly?

Was awolowo not charged with treason unjustly?

Was the prime minister tafawa balewa and Ahmadu bellow not part of the western crisis that saw the violence and massive rigging of the western elections, while also unjustly charging an innocent man with treason and sentencing him to prison unjustly?

Did I revise this history?

@Bolded,
Are you asking me this with a straight face?
Your lies and propaganda stink to heaven.
While the Aburi issues and killings both in the North and in the East might have contributed towards the civil war,the main reason the egotistical Odumegwu Ojukwu declared war was to appropriate and dominate the minority tribes and their oil wealth. In fact Ojukwu instructed all the oil companies to pay all revenues in dollars to Biafra coffers, this is the main reason that Gowon used the Navy to blockade the sea and the reason why the coast line was a priority target of the Federal troops.
