Ademoyega had always had the mind of setting things right before he joined the army, he wasn't happy the way the country was being run by those corrupt and selfish politicians. He even said it himself that he stylishly chipped in the idea to Ironsi when he met him during his training (military) abroad but he (Ironsi) was buying the idea. So he was glad to meet other learned officers who were ready and willing to carry out the coup for the betterment of the country. Their plan was to send a junior officer on a plane to effect the prompt release of Awolowo immediately the coup had been carried out successfully. Ironsi was also their major target cos he was the GOC then and had to been captured with the others but was lucky ( or intentionally spared by one of the plotters ) to evade being captured leading to the collapse of the coup. If Ironsi had been successfully captured, the story would have taken a different turn and the events that followed the coup afterwards wouldn't have occured cos the plotters had it all planned out in how to govern the country fairly.

I see you swallowed Ademoyegas tale:hook, line and sinker. I repeat Ademoyega was not one of the initial plotters of that coup. The only constants were Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu who recruited others.
Ademoyega himself did not realise he was being used like a pawn by Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu to try to give the coup a semblance of being nationalistic. Ademoyega was just a smoke screen to stop people labelling the January 66 coup an Ibo coup!

But you know you always paint your tribe as supreme and victims of Nigeria in your everyday write ups on Nairaland now.....😆 lol....

I didn’t mention that an igbo man was killed too in the so called igbo coup, but it’s a good thing you reminded us that an igbo man was part of the casualty of what was referred to as igbo coup.

I explained what fingered the premier of northern region and western region into being targets for the coup and the prime minister too. And it was a fact that they did those things, though they didn’t deserve what happened to them.

What then should be the reason y Michael okpara that didn’t do anything against anybody should be killed?

A west east alliance lead to violence and an innocent man was unjustly charged for treason and imprisoned, and the guilty one was cleared and put in power because he supports a north west alliance.

How does Michael okpara come into play in all these when the people responsible are in the camp of the north and west?

Why do you lie so shamelessly

Out of 22 victims of the bloody Igbo coup, only 1 person was Igbo. the rest are mostly of northern extraction and south west

Ironsi never surrounded himself with northern soldiers. Ironsi had 4 ADCs only one was from the north

Ironsi already knew there was going to be a coup that will eliminate Tafawa-Balewa because the police told him some military were planning it but he ignored the information because he knew what the outcome would be

Azikiwe also knew about the coup which was why he sneaked to the UK under health reason but he never visited any hospital while in the UK when the coup happened.

Immediately after the Igbo coup, Azikiwe wrote a letter to Ironsi and called Ironsi the Nigerian leader even though a british official cautioned him that Ironsi at that time was not the most senior person in the country

Azikiwe birthed nepotism and tribalism by ensuring Wellington Bassey's career was stagnated just so that Ironsi will overtake Wellington in the military. Wellington Bassey is from Calabar arear but was the most senior Nigerian in the Army and that was what Nnamdi Azikiwe hated about Wellington

Azikiwe also entrenched Tribalism by relocating the capital of the easter region from Calabar to Enugu and Igbo town.

The Igbo coup saw the death of several top northern military even though they were in the minority at that time in the army.

The Igbo coup of January 1966 saw to the death of Ahmadu Bello, his wife and driver. What exactly was the need to kill Ahmadu bello's wife and driver. This proved to northerners that the Igbo army just went on needless killing of northerners.

It is too late to change history and your lies are very very PH00LEESH and similar to the time IP0B were peddling a falsehood that Buhari was dead and that a clone called Jubrin from Sudan was the one ruling Nigeria.

You are right, my father rented apartment back then in present day Osun state and nothing was Stole after the war, everything was intact when he got back to south west, my problem is them conniving with the Northerners to teach us Igbos a lesson because of a coup until today especially those Yoruba Muslims who hate Igbos with passion for being Christians, i used to love Yorubas and even cook their dishes, got married to their sister who gave me children, last year i began to see their evil mind and how they see us Igbos, it has nothing to do with Obi, i have never voted in Nigeria and have no intention to vote in future for criminals who has no business being leaders, the insult from MC OLUOMO and Bayo, Fk and Alake just buried my love for Yorubas. it's shameful to see people who called themselves leaders did what they did during Lagos Governorship election

I have been making alot of reflections about Nigeria, its direction and what the future holds for the country.

I will use the opportunity to talk about alot of characters, I am of the igbo tribe, I would say what we did well and what we did not do well, and I would talk about others too.

Nigeria is currently in shambles, some days ago a matured man who visited Nigeria told me, we are currently enjoying. I looked at him as the enemy, cause for him to say we are enjoying at a time when people are in agony and poverty, to the extent that people started taking their lives. He explained to me, and gave context to his comment Nigerians are enjoying. What he explained was that:

“In the early 2000’s Nigerians thought they were suffering, African china was singing lead us well and food no dae. This is 2024 and the situation is 50times worst than the early 2000’s and Idris Abdulkareem is singing ebi pawa lokan, in the next 20years when he comes Nigeria would have gotten 100times worst, it would reach a situation where the suffering maybe in 2050, would make what we are suffering in 2024 look like enjoyment”.

I settled down sat back and thought about what he said, his words kept giving me sleepless nights as u thought about not just myself, but my family. I started looking for answers on how we got here.

Nigeria is dying, Apc or Tinubu cannot save Nigeria, Tinubu is here to do the ceremonials of saying he achieved his ambition of being Nigerian president. Not much would change under Tinubu government. Reason not much would change is that Tinubu government is not divine. You can’t come to power, on the back of bloodshed, corruption, hate, tribalism, division and bigotry like never seen before in Nigeria’s history and expect to succeed.

There’s a reason under Tinubu government,
Which tribe after he took power, was a coup happened in Niger, there’s a reason why it was under his tenure as ecowas president 3Nations broke out of Ecowas. There’s a reason all of a sudden companies that have been through heaven and hell in Nigeria for decades from military to civilian governments, yet they started leaving during his tenure. It’s because his government is not divine.

Obasanjo is the best President Nigeria ever had, Obasanjo is the Awolowo of his time, I think Tinubu is the Akintola of his time.

I would explain this in the next write up where u go into what really happened in 1966 and Nigeria after it. I would try my best to be absolutely unbiased.
Which tribe promoted tribalism during the electioneering period most, if you are sincere with yourself. Who was attacking others both online and offline to support their candidate. Am not talking of the election date in particular but during campaigns. What would the other candidates has done, when they all agreed they will end subsidy as soon as they were sworn in as president. Who campaigned with religion by even making call to a certain daddy G O, who told the Christian to take back the country that this is a religious war. Who want to forcefully install their half son who speaks their speak their language but can't speak his father language but speak fluently his mother own as governor. Remove the log in your eyes before you remove the ones in another's eye. You can't fight and insult other tribes and you expect them not to react. Only a fool does that. This is not the first election but why is it when your tribe is informed, it became a problem. You people should be happy they are even tolerant but they have to prove to you guys that they have all he takes to clip you people and that was the angle you people didn't see it coming. You people took their generosity for weakness. Can you dere it to the other tribe. By trying to exploit the same muslim ticket, they used their vote to pass a message to you guys. If they are not important politically, we will not be seeing frequent visiting by one of the contested in their territory. He understands the reason for the vote.

The civil war came, we know the story, I won’t talk much in that, with my research I want to address what I found out on why the Biafran forces marched towards the west. The major reason was to capture the Nigerian capital and that was all, cause as time went on alot of people talked about how Biafra tried to invade the west.
https://www.segundawodu.com/biafra1.htm
https://www.nairaland.com/3829830/letter-lt.col-ojukwu-lt-col.banjo

From: The Military Governor,

Republic of Biafra Enugu,

22nd August, 1967.

My dear Victor,

1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination.

We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of

Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:-

(i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West.

(ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever

imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression.

(iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened.

(iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat.

(v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory.

(vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba.

(vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority.

(viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops.

(ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss:

(a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory;

(b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

Back in the 60's and 70's, military coups were common place. Every country in West Africa, with the exception of Cameroun, has military coup. Military coups still happen in Africa to this day

Nigeria had 7 military coups. But what I find funny is that the only coup some people remember is the January 1966 coup. It is the only coup that they gave ethnic tag

In contrast, Nigeria has honoured participants of other coups

Murtala Mohammed led a coup in that same 1966, not only did his coup not get ethnic tag, Murtala Mohammed was put on the N20 Naira note, had Airports, Highways and buildings named after him. His coup claimed over 300 lives

Coup plotters like Muhammadu Buhari, who overthrew the democratically elected government of Shagari, was elected President twice

Obasanjo who became military dictator due to the Dimka coup, and participated in Murtala Mohammeds second coup, was elected President

Nigeria has a long history of honouring coup plotters, they only remember that coup is bad when January 1966 coup is mentioned

u just opened my eyes

But a great analysis.
Though it's still unbelievable that majority igbo officers seek to put a yorubaman in position, but its quite possible.

I like the way you admitted mistakes and apportion blame , fair enough

But , it's still an igbo coup because as you yourself admit, no single igbo leader was killed , if you were not igbo, you will feel exactly how others feel
God bless u....I am Igbo....I know y Nigerians call it Igbo coup....maybe if they had killed some Igbo officers too....things could have bin balanced.....with d way things are, Nigerians won't even listen even though I understand d reason for d coup

There can be many things am not sure of but you see this ur comment, it’s filled with many lies. Even if there might be truth or not in it, once there are lies, it makes whatever u say seem suspicious or less trustworthy.

I am alive and very active on social media, and I can say this with extreme confidence that you lie.

Most Nigerians seeing this post can judge for themselves, during the election period obidients were trying to make bridges with lots of people, during the elections period, there was very minimal tribalism from the SE against others. Why would they employ tribalism when their candidate was obviously marketable.
Anybody who says I lie, should tell me the form of tribalism igbos employed during 2023 elections, I put this out to everyone.

I can say the people who employed tribalism in 2023 was Apc, Apc didn’t know how to attack Peter obi, apart from the pastor oyedepo saga that happened, later, Apc had absolutely nothing on Peter obi. First they used to try to fact check absolutely everything he was saying, it went to them referring to him as a liar, to them absolutely lying against him.

I remember when Peter obi went t the north, the level of scrutiny he received was much more than what Atiku or even Tinubu got, it was as if the rest were there for paddy paddy treatment, while Peter obi was there for total grilling, one of the major scrutinies came from el rufai who said, during 2013 elections period he visited Anambra and Peter obi restricted his movement, he was saying this with so much excitement and enthusiasm not just from him, u could see it even in apc camp and Tinubu in particular, cause after he finished they burst into sm kind of laugh.

When Peter obi replied El rural, he said in 2013 he was the governor under apga another political party that was different from the one at the federal level, he said he has no control over security apparatus in his state, that it’s controlled by the federal by the federal, that apart from that the security heads then we’re northerners, if he was responsible, they are their brothers they can go and ask if he Peter obi was the one who told them to restrict el rufai movement. He also said it’s normal for movement to be restricted during elections, that even him was restricted to his LG during elections. They all went quiet after it.

When they did everything above and it didn’t work, their last attempt was tribalism and bigotry, Nigerians know the answer to this, when u ask which tribe promoted tribalism and bigotry, go and twitter, they are trying to redeem their image from the damages a loud minority of their people have done to this once great people that were loved by everyone.
They went from labelling Peter obi ipob, to calling obi supporters ipob, to the extent that they started calling anybody who doesn’t support apc ipob, to the extent that they brought total division and tribalism to Lagos state, telling other Nigerians to go back to Anambra, it didn’t stop their. On their official twitter accounts they started a full blown character assassination against the tribe Peter obi came from, this here is a fact. Imagine where official government handles were following tribal bigotry pages and liking them. You people have lied and lied so much that u are now trying to gaslight and project your lies upon others.

We haven’t even forgotten what was done to GRV, I can still go on, but you put up too many lies, I am going to debunk and expose all your lies.

Nigerians below is one of them, an appointee in Lagos state government not just a regular citizen insulting people on the internet, a Lagos state government appointee is involving himself in bigotry. But yeah let’s blame obidients.

Your story is full of gaslighting and projecting, you said this:

“ Who want to forcefully install their half son who speaks their speak their language but can't speak his father language but speak fluently his mother own as governor”

Nigerians we were all alive in 2023, is what he is saying true or lie as usual, in 2023 between Apc and Lp who tried to forcefully install anybody into power? Who was attacking people in Lagos state, who was shooting people in Lagos state?

Y on earth would someone say a Lagos state indigene who has a mother from another tribe should not be allowed to contest for governorship, his mother is from another tribe, but someone who came all the way from 5 states away should be allowed to contest.

In 2023 Labour Party at first opened its arms to everyone, igbos were not a majority in LP, neither was Peter obi supporters at first. When they started joining LP they met people there, some Yorubas, leading up to the pools, there was controversy where they would all walk together and when they were trying to reach a certain level of progress certain people for certain region would break away and say: we have seen the light and it’s in Apc, we and our supporters have therefore moved to Apc, you would say ok let’s move forward. It’s just like what we saw with Doyin okupe, who after he resigned from Labour Party he retweeted a bigotry tweet calling a tribe products of baby factory. Was he forced out?

No? Tomorrow if sth happens they would say obidients drive everybody away, but when u ask them how, they get angry. That’s simply the script. But u people keep lying and projecting.

You say you can’t fight and insult other tribes.

Is it the fault of igbos that certain tribes are always coming for us? In 2023 elections the oba of benin said sth about Lagos being part of benin, SW ronus went on an onslaught, there was a bit of exchanges between benin people and SW people, smhw benin people in apc had to do damage control, they switched the whole matter into the common enemy.

They started spreading propaganda that Igbos are fanning the embers of discord on the problem just to get Biafra. Which we know is a big lie, I stopped using naira land for some time cause it’s a faceless forum, if u want to see where it’s happening go to twitter.

Anybody who saw that Yoruba vs benin matter last year knows igbos were no way the cause, also knows how igbos preferred and were warned not to interfere but were surprised about how we got dragged into it despite how much we tried to mind our business.

Another one was right now there’s friction arising between ronu and northerners, it stemmed from a northern girl bringing light to the bad roads in Ogun state, ronus are on the onslaught again. Igbos minded our lanes, but to your surprise you would be surprised how Igbos will be dragged into it and be blamed for it.

We keep getting dragged into matters we know nothing about and blamed and same u is asking how we are always fighting back.

Tell me where I lied, I dare you to counter anything I say. I have countered you 3 times, I dare you counter me.

Ademoyega was the missing link in the real story and he has said it how it occurred. You can go own to believe whatever you want but we will take it directly from the horse's mouth.

You need to read a lot of more books about the January 1966 coup but I know you wouldn't do that because it doesn't suit your Ibo supremacist agenda.
I repeat over the course of four years of 1962-1966 the dramatic personel recruited into that coup changed drastically. Ademoyega who was a pawn in the hands of Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu's hands never understood he was being used and was only recruited like several others as an afterthought to prevent the coup being tagged an Ibo coup.
The only constant plotters in that January 1966 coup were the master minds Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu.

You can take any narrative you like but I still take my stand that what A. Ademoyega wrote was what really happened and not what you guys want to believe. He even said it himself that Nigerians were already giving a false narrative of the events that led to the 1966 coup. So Ademoyega's narrative or no other else.

4. The handing over of the government to Ironsi by Orizu (the acting president and the senate president who could have called for the formation of another civilian government).

5. The unification decree of May 1966 promulgated by Ironsi, leading to the abolition of regional system of government - Historically speaking, the West and North have always believed in the regional system of government as the best form of government for a multiethnic like Nigeria, however this was taken away by Ironsi, leading to a massive outrage and pogrom in the North. Unification decree favoured the ibos as they don't stay in their region like the others.

6. The coup plotters were kept in Jail but weren't sentenced to death.

The above points alone are weighty enough.
These are the reasons why we are here today!

The coup plotters should have been properly tried and justice should have taken its course.

The unification decree of 1966 is undoubtedly a major blunder that is responsible for the backward movement we continue to experience. We are where we are today because of the short sightedness for which those responsible will never take responsibility!

My dad was a soldier on the biafran side in the civil war. He is still alive today. Everything you wrote here is true especially the fact that the then western regional crisis was the purveyor of the war.

Truth is there is nobody who can dispute what you wrote. This is the simple reason history was deleted from being a subject in schools curriculum. They will try to bend the truth all they like but it will remain sacrosanct.

You have done extremely well in dispensing information to the less informed. You can rest easy knowing this thread has made its impact now and will in future days.

1. Ibos were not the only people in the army, all the counter coup consisted of Northern military officers 😂

2. Ironsi surrounded himself with his kinsmen after the coup.
At the early stage of his tenure, he appointed a three-man advisory team made up of Chief Francis Nwokedi, a Permanent Secretary, Dr. Pius Charles Nwabafor Okigbo (1924-2000) and Colonel Patrick Anwunah, who later became Chairman and Head of the Orientation Committee at that time.

He replaced the then Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Taslim Olawale Elias (1914-1991) with Chief Gabriel Chike Michael Onyiuke (SAN), former Director, Public Prosecution, Eastern Nigeria (1960-1965) from Nimo in the present Anambra state.

3. Out of the 22 killed in the coup, only 1 was Ibo. The premier of the eastern region Michael okpara was even spared unlike the premiers of the west and north that were murdered.

4. The handing over of the government to Ironsi by Orizu (the acting president and the senate president who could have called for the formation of another civilian government).

You people should stop trying hard to revise history.

That's more like it. Revisionists will always fail.
