Budget Ultimatum: PDP Cautions Former Rivers Lawmakers
…Charges IGP to Check Subversive Acts

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the umpteenth time, cautions the former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who lost their seats upon defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to desist from actions and utterances that are capable of disrupting peace and governance in the State.

The Party counsels the former lawmakers to wake up to the reality that they are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by virtue of the self-executory provision of Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and as such cannot gather or issue any notice to the State Governor in the capacity of members of Rivers State House of Assembly.

PDP’s caution is coming against the backdrop of a purported seven-day ultimatum issued by the former lawmakers from an unknown location to Governor Siminialayi Fubara to re-present the 2024 Rivers State budget which has already been passed and signed into law.

This action by these individuals seeking to assume the powers of the Rivers House of Assembly is apparently with the intension to cause crisis, undermine and disrupt the Democratic and Constitutional Order in the State in clear violation of Section 1 sub-section 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Having irretrievably lost their seats upon their defection from the PDP, the political Party platform upon which they were elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, they cannot enjoy the powers, rights, privileges, recognition and obligations of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The PDP charges the Inspector General of the Police to note the subversive action of these former lawmakers and take immediate action to protect the Institution of Democracy, peace and security in Rivers State.

The Party calls on the people of Rivers State to remain vigilant, law-abiding and continue to work together for the continued stability, peace and delivery of democracy dividends in Rivers State on the platform of the PDP.

Signed:

Hon. Debo Ologunagba
National Publicity Secretary

Very good! Looks like the PDP is waking up!... coming on the wake of Dan Orbih's suspension, its a welcome development.
One man should not be allowed to pocket a whole party.

Looks like PDP is finally learning how to set deadlines, too bad they couldn't do the same for their own failed policies.

The party is hemorrhaging.. they've been hit with a wave of defections in many states. Confidence in the party is waning rapidly... coupled with the endless rooftop wailing of people like Ugochinyere which appears to be stirring the spirits of many members.

I am particularly pained concerning PDP' s action towards Nigerians especially now that hunger is resetting a lot of brains in the country. PDP is supposed to be the main opposition party to the ruling party ( name withheld) but they have continued to disappoint and badly too.

In 2014, the now ruling party criticized every move PDP made and finally they won 2015 elections. Now, what is happening to the PDP? Are they not supposed to capitalise on the failure of this ruling party to plan for the next election?

Who are their strategic planners? PDP should wake up and play opposition politics for next election. If they do well, they will win in 2027.

Very good move by the Major national opposition party

PDP should remove membership of Wicked from the party if they want serenity and sanity in their party.

Wicked has lost this Rivers state war for this tenure, we re waiting for battle line to be drawn for Sim second tenure. That is where the real war will emerge.

Exactly, but unfortunately APC has infiltrated their ranks and files, they have planted members in higher echelon of the party. They can't play good opposition until these people exit the party.

At national level, there is no PDP. It is only at some state levels that you can see PDP functioning as opposition. Wicked has killed our democracy by openly participating in activities of 2 major political parties at a time.

We re gone, Nigeria is heading to 0ne-party system

This is what sane Nigerians have been expecting of PDP since the Rivers crisis bagan but no, they were too afraid to confront Wike. It seems someone has removed the heavy log blocking their eyes from seeing and doing the thing.

Wike cannot eat his cake and have it, the constitution does not permit an individual to belong to two party, he should move to APC with his over bearing and watch PDP blossom without his constant tantrums.

How are the nighty fallen?

Ride on River State youths

South south no be southwest.

River state no be Lagos
Fubara no be Ambode

I don’t know why one rat from Abuja will think he can do what he didn’t allow other former governors to do to him . I keep saying it even with federal might, you can’t still push a sitting governor around . In all places not rivers where the governor has enough money to share around to mobilize thugs also
Finally the HUNTER has become the HUNTED

I am still very cautious and suspicious of this PDP.

They will support Fubara in Press statements then go and support Wike in Court proceedings..

So, the state chapter of pdp does not have a say in this matter? It's the national body of the party that is more concerned. This shows who controls the state structure of the party. Fubara should try to get chieftains of the party in the state to his side if he's serious about the 2nd term

They need to suspend Wike indefinitely for anti party activities then I will take them serious. No serious party will allow an enemy like Wike to be controlling its affairs while they watch helplessly. Even Atiku hasn’t shown any seriousness as the party’s leader.

Wike's structures will be pulled down one after the other. What the state PDP wing that supports Fubara is doing is to wait for their men (Suswan) to take over PDP national by September, after which, those state EXCOs loyal to Wike will be sent parking. 3 yes to election; there is still time to pull every of Wike structures.
I do say that, Wike started the fight too early and this have given Fubara time to play the game well.
