That's because the state governors have taken out humongous loans to be repaid through the state/LGA joint account and allocations from the FG.

This is a win for grassroot governance and will prune and check the excesses of Tin god governors who treat state and local govt resources as their personal piggy banks.

The federal govt is not different from the states that collects the monthly allocations of their local govts. Why can't the federal govt allow the states to be in control of what they produce? Why give them just 13% out of 100% then turn around to claim they can't survive without federal allocations?

Bankrupting states is among tinubu's plans, and he is strictly adhering to his plans.

That's why we must all supporting a return to true fiscal autonomy for states and ensure the powers and excesses of these governors are curtailed to the minimum.

Oil and Gas producing states can also take 87% and give FG 13%

Though I like the idea of LGs being autonomous as was stipulated in the constitution, but this ruling should’ve been implemented alongside making states control more of their resources

Update: LGs are not meant to be autonomous. The constitution only guarantees their establishment, but the law governing their functions, structure and finances was constitutionally left to the states.

Shame on those who did this to Nigeria’s democracy!

.that would have been nice but we know the North and SE will oppose it just as they opposed Obasanjo's 25% to oil producing states.

Abia, and Imo are oil and gas producing states

So it was easy to implement something opposed by most state governors in Nigeria but it’s difficult to implement something opposed by some states?

Go and shit down.

Search on Google what Wabara said on the senate floor on why he was opposing the 25% oil derivation bill.
.Wabara said it explicitly that it will not favour his people.

It took Yaradua to pass the 13% derivative. Prior to that federal allocations were done purely on population . Every state in the SE got more than any state in the oil producing SS based on a sharing formula that took population only into consideration.

Also, the total production output from the SE is negligible and doesn't amount to a combined total of 50k barrels .

After running your mouth, answer the question.

It's time for the states to also sue the Fed Government as regards that in the supreme Court. The government giving those who have the resources 13 out of 100 is very wrong.

You see!! Some folks are now misguided to think LG financial autonomy actually exists in the constitution. Shame on the supreme court

Many will say they should go bankrupt. People don't care about these Governors anymore.

Since 1999, they have got increasingly worse. More and more billions stolen by them. Haba.

Let's see what Local government will do with their own money.

A local government chairman will think twice about robbing his people blind like Governors who are so heavily protected by security, they are so remote from the people.

This judgement is just a starting point..states will begin to demand more cut from resources generated from their states.

What are the job of the states?

They always need money and hardly generate any.

You’re actually right. Their functions, structure, and finances are limited to the extent provided by the state government through the state house of assembly. The only constitutional requirement is their establishment

But INEC should conduct another elections for local government very fast, if elections is not conducted they will collect the money and send it back to the governor because they appointed them.

The implications are thus:
- Embezzling opportunities for corrupt LG chairman.
-Shrinkage in State Governments governance
-LG chairmanship will be more competitive than before
-More Power to the LG Chairmans
Re: LGA Fiscal Autonomy Will See To A Lot Of States Going Bankrupt by press9jatv: 8:53am On Jul 12
Grassroots BE VIGILANT....Once you see your LG allocation as published, query it. Some current Chairmen, on the instructions of some hitleric governors, may still find a way to return the funds to their governors. DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN!
Re: LGA Fiscal Autonomy Will See To A Lot Of States Going Bankrupt by press9jatv: 8:58am On Jul 12
With LG AUTONOMY, brilliant brains can now be retained at the grassroots instead of state and federal capitals. It is more impactful to your community now to serve them as the LG Chairman with executive powers, not under any boss.
The bosses will now be the local market women and men, community leaders, youths and elders etc who will work directly with their councillors living among them to draw how their community will be protected, how their roads will be constructed by local contractors from among them, how IGR will be generated and utilised, their minimum wage, agriculture and other economic growth.
The Chairman and councillors are now on the spot and hot seat because their family houses are all within the community, and they are 100% traceable!
TINUBU is restructuring Nigeria without wasting scarce resources on any futile National Conference! Unprecedented!

. Chairmen don't have immunity and a non performing one can be easily prosecuted when his constituents report him to EFFC. Now we will know governors who are innovative. My state Edo, the soil is good for rubber. Michelin and Dunlop tyres used to have their rubber plantation in the state and their company was sited in potharcourt and Lagos respectively before they close down. What stop our governor to capitalize on it and float a tyre manufacturing company. Their closure was due to power failure and the federal government has removed power generation from the exclusive list, meaning state or anybody can build a power plant. Only the innovative ones will now performed better than his chairmen. I was shocked when i was one of the site maintenance engineer then to the MTN site at okomu and I was shown Okomu's rubber plantation. They told me Michelin now buy from them and take it to Ghana were they relocated to. I feel so sorry for my state cos imagine the money the state would have been making by producing tyres of all kind. Rich Edo people are not also interested cos they prefer to build hotels, and clubs everywhere. One thing I like the igbos is that if it was in their place, by now at least one tyre company will be open. Even if it is motorcycle and Keke tyres only you focus on, you will be rich forever.
