Supreme Court’s Judgment Means No FAAC Allocations To CTC Chairmen – Ozekhome by Bobloco: 10:20am On Jul 12
..... in Rivers, Abia, others

Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has said Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment on Local Government Council Autonomy means that the Federation Account Allocation Committee will not release funds to Rivers, Abia, Anambra, Katsina, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and other states with Caretaker Committee LGA chairmen will be withheld.

Ozekhome disclosed this on Friday in an interview with Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST.

The judgement of the government is clear. If you want to receive funds from the federation account, then conduct an election. If what you have in place is a caretaker committee as local government chairman, be sure that it will not have money from the federation account. If you want money from the federation account, such councils must be democratically elected,” he stated.

This comes following the recent Supreme Court verdict endorsing full local government autonomy and ordering that funds from the Federation Account should be paid directly to LG accounts.

The country’s highest court, with Thursday’s verdict, stopped governors from receiving and tampering with local government allocations.

Also, the Supreme Court barred governors from henceforth dissolving democratically elected officials for local governments and that doing so would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

DAILY POST reports that over 18 states in Nigeria currently have CTCs including Rivers, Benue, Anambra, Imo, Kwara, Abia, Enugu, Plateau, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Ondo, Osun, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River.

Fubara has deceived those urchins Jumping up on CTC appointment, One chance grin grin grin

implication now is that FG Now controls whoever is elected LG chairman, The FG will easily select and this Gives APC candidates more advantage, so we expect even fubara chosen ones I mean the few ones he can influence to Rebel against him.....and join with APC FG....of course the FG will dangle the carrot....VERY INTERESTING....when a child is tall like the father, he got no experience and tricks like the father..

The fact that Agbadorians are jubilating on the Supreme Court ruling because they think it will ONLY affect Rivers State is laughable.

- Rivers State is not the only state currently running a CT system in Nigeria.

- Rivers State Electoral Commission has already fixed LG elections for Oct.2024 & not INEC.

- Rivers State is a very rich state & Gov. Sim can still fund/pay the caretaker chairmen till Oct. when the LG elections would be conducted by Rivers State Electoral commission . He would erect his own "structure" at the grassroot before then.

- Many poor State Governors (especially in the North, South west, east ) who are currently running a caretaker chairmen system would revolt & would not implement the Supreme Court ruling because if they do, no money for them again.

- Not all elected local government chairman would betray their Governors. Dem go just dey chop Tinubu federal government money but dem go still pledge alliegence to their governors at the end.

-Wike, when he became Governor in 2015, dissolved democratically Elected local government Chairmen and seized their allocations till date and now he is currently the savior and messiah of Agbadorians

- Wike also appointed caretaker chairmen and they stayed for 9 months before he conducted LG elections.
The day Wike will start fighting Tinubu, dem go change their mouth as usual.
Pathetic people

At least, only one person in the state won’t be taking everything. Local governments at local levels will have more money and more relevance. People will now be interested in becoming LGAs Chairmen and councillors. The local government chairman of my area lives two streets away from me. We can easily see what comes to the council after every FAAC meeting. Organizing community members to beat him up if he start stealing the money shouldn’t be difficult. That’s the essence of the councils. Bringing government to the grassroots

This is a great news.

Governance will now be closer to the people.

Na Obasanjo start this nonsense of paying governors money ment for local government cos he needed governors to support his second term when Atiku was showing him shege.

Ok
But one thing is still sure, the allocations will still be looted. Nigerian politics doesn't favour the masses. Just some few criminals and supporters. Just like Tinubu s supporters and the tribalistic mods that work for those his useless supporters to ban people who call them for what they truly are. The get angry when you call them thieves. But that's what they're. CRIMINALS

Yes you are right. But it will make governance closer to the people. Local government will now be functional. Have you gone to some local government secratriat? Most of them are dead cos no activities and no money to fund the place. Na any amount whey the governors give them na hin dey fit use.

Na local government workers na hin dey suffer pass cos them fit owe them for 20 months.

We can now start holding our local govt chairman accountable. EFCC can now start going after local government chairmen (I no sure say immunity cover them).

You have a terrible mindset. What happen to you lobbying your LG chairman to carry out necessary projects in your locality since he has a direct allocation from FG now

Gbam!!!

Since that yesterday Judgement....Local Government employees (NULGE), NLC, TUC, common man on the street, most lawyers, human rights activists and many more have been in Joyous mood ...

Only the Governors and past Governors and their sympathizers have been unhappy...Why

Many hiding behind constitution and turning it upside down to favour their old ways of stiffing lives out of the Local Government.

If the majority of the people you claimed to be Governing are against your ways of Governing them, are you not suppose to adjust to govern them better

Governors are insensitive!

Why singling out Fubara? Why no pretend? How can fg control election that will be controlled by the Governor?

APC damages brain thinking cells, so you have shown that APC has been manipulating Nigeria elections and determines who gets what?

It's not jubilation, it's a statement of facts, the fact that the judgement came few months after Fubara triumphant in removing the OLD ELECTED CHAIRMEN without giving them the 6 months additional tenor approved by SHA makes it look suspicious that it was aimed at RIVERS.

This is not Rivers state politics its about grassroots development... probably you were small when LGA was really functioning in Nigeria before Obj scattered everything.. Even Atiku appreciate this judgement . Make Fg just try to go back to election system for LGA that will be conducting by INEC... So governor will not be selecting is loyal followers as LGA executives
