STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Idris Ajimobi as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development (Office of the President).

The appointment follows the recent inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms and the establishment of a new Ministry of Livestock Development.

The President seeks to harness and develop Nigeria's agricultural potential, including the animal husbandry ecosystem, to spur sustainable economic growth, create industries and jobs, and eradicate violent conflicts between farmers and herders over time.

The President expects efficient coordination and liaison on matters relating to this critical sector.

However, I'm concerned about the necessity of a newly established ministry given that we are yet to see significant efforts from the Ministry of Agriculture. It seems like an additional layer of bureaucracy and potential wastage of resources.

How will this new role genuinely benefit the livestock sector without duplicating efforts or leading to financial mismanagement?

Farmers should hold this ministry accountable!!

They SSA and the folks in the new Livestock Ministry have to work in tandem with the private investors on how to rapidly set up ranches and dairy farms which would ensure profitable, higher yields of milk for every hybrid (or crossbred) cow in stock.

These newer dairy farms can be set up in the Far-North of Nigeria in order to ensure that some of the Fula cow herders roaming wildly around the Sahelian region of West Africa do NOT move around commercial and smaller farms while destroying crops and harming innocent folks with AK-47 rifles.
