As much I don't like a brooding Superman, I loved Man Of Steel. I liked the tone. Synder took a classic, hopeful superhero and dropped him into our distrusting, polarised, post-9/11 world to be a beacon to teach the disgruntled people how to hope again. I think the Gunn film is going to be total bubblegum escapism, which will be fine, but I love that Snyder tried to give us something rooted in our own time and different to what we'd always had before.
