Well, 3 years got added to the usual 14 years of training to become a priest in the Catholic Church.
The Catholic priests are thoroughly trained on Bible verses. They are not like today's Pastors of doom who once seen as good in English language are let lose to misinterprete the Bible verses on poor people for the purpose of paying tithes.

He probably entered a minor seminary(basically a secondary school), then entered a major seminary, then probably went for postgrad studies before taking orders.

He also probably took time off to get a secular degree.

Averagely, to train a catholic priest...from the internet...is 8-13 years. If he joined up after graduating secondary school, he is going to spend longer. If he got a degree from uni and then decided to take orders, it's 5-6 years.

That's y I used to preach against general condemnation of tribes. Who could believe an Igbo man in this era will decide to spend a whopping 17yrs in a seminar just to serve God.

]The poster just wanted to make it a click bait or so I guess 😂 because normally from the JS1 to priesthood is the 17years .That’s normal time all the priests that entered in the minor seminary spent there just like you said .

Is this not the same bishop that was reject by the priests of Mbisie diocese? Did the church later respect the decision of the Mbisie priests?

Why did he spend 17yrs in seminary? Was he dropping and coming back ? Did they have serious exit exams that one have to pass or stay back and then this Dr guy is really after the limelight, he makes sure what ever good he does is highly publicized
