IbeOkehie: That of 2 should be a recent phenomenon. Also, many have been indoctrinated by mainstream media without checking facts by themselves. They get told 1 + 1 = 2 without checking for themselves why it is 2. I've lost SEVERAL Nigerian and native Black American friends because of (1) and (2). Remember too my entire nuclear family and various in-laws both young and elderly have been residing here for at least a decade, all are citizens and 95% of them don't like Trump. Then it mostly has to do with the racist nature/tune of the GOP. I doubt the same applies to the Conservative parties in Canada and the UK. So I ask again, where did you get the notion that Nigerians are conservatives Even if you discriminate between POLITICAL, ECONOMIC and SOCIO-CULTURAL conservatives, what I observe is that maybe 50% of Nigerians and West African adult immigrants I know might support SOCIO-CULTURAL conservative values. I can tell you though that 95% of them end up voting Democrat. Largely because of the above. All of this data also goes for those Nigerians I know in the UK and even Nigerians living in Nigeria, though I notice a difference in political attitudes between the Igbo and Yoruba that I know living in the UK. What are these "political attitudes"? Even here on Nairaland I get the sense most members here hate Trump and Republicans. The high earning Nigerians I know living in Nigeria ALL hate Trump, including my oft cited friends & acquaintances in the oil & gas industry that earn $1K per day AND a few politicians I know personally, including some who've been in government. In fact some of these rich ones are worse than Mao & Lenin. You would be SHOCKED if I shared some of our discussions. Trump promises to tighten migration to the US. So, it is expected. Black elites want to have easy access to the West but don't want to replicate the socio-economic developmental policies which made the West successful as Chinese elites did. While not a large sample size, I can report that of my classmates from my Federal Government College with whom I've ever discussed Trump, they ALL hate him. Again, I bet it is largely because of the GOP stance. That said, have you ever asked these people why they detest Trump? What exactly makes them despise Trump? I would like to know the basis of your statements. How you formed that opinion. 🤔 If you care to share. Well, culturally, most Africans are conservative. My generation, I strongly think, will be the last to hold certain conservative beliefs as the upcoming Gen-Zs will be very liberal. I have read on Nairaland how Nigerian permanent residents in Canada kick against Ndi LGTV policies and its likes. How they look for Catholic-run schools to enrol their children into rather than secular public schools. As for Trump, I loathed the gang-up they had against him in the run-up to the 2016 elections. Also, I noticed the discrepancies in beliefs and actual practices by so-called liberals. They don't practice what they preach and don't preach what they practice. They have this lovey-dovey approach to life which I find very unrealistic. Also, they seem to have this belief that blacks cannot do things for themselves and must always be dictated policies on how to live their lives. Additionally, they have this feeding-bottle mentality. I believe in teaching a man how to fish, not giving him fish. Lastly, they believe in equal opportunities = equal outcomes. Life does not work that way. Most importantly, what changed my stance was the way they defended the notion that the gender pay gap existed even when the data proved it false. But always, that was the narrative they ran away with. It is recently that the narrative has died down. They now accept that the "Motherhood Penalty" exists. 2 Likes |

blueAgent: I never checked the specific numbers. China should NEVER be used as an example of diversity. https://www.google.com/search?q=ethnic+demographics+china&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS1037US1037&oq=ethnic+demographics+china&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIICAEQABgWGB4yCAgCEAAYFhgeMggIAxAAGBYYHjIICAQQABgWGB4yDQgFEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyDQgGEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyDQgHEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyCggIEAAYgAQYogQyCggJEAAYgAQYogTSAQg3MDI4ajBqNKgCALACAQ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 China apparently has 56 ethnic groups and 91% of the population is Han tribe. Good Luck to Nigeria. |

IbeOkehie: What about US and the other diverse nations like Belguim, Brazil, Spain, UK. e.t.c |

blueAgent: You're making the usual Nigerian error of placing more emphasis on specific times over and above trends. It's easy to fall into it. The USA is deteriorating BECAUSE it's getting more diverse. Look up what's happening in California, the first state where White Americans are less than 50% of the population. You should go read up on the USA's 1964 Immigration & Naturalization Act. However, I believe that there's a new epoch coming to the USA. People don't understand how UNIQUE the USA is in human history. Do you know the USA is the ONLY country in the world where the Constitution or Basic Law places limits on government and grants citizens rights FROM GOD? Other Basic Laws may say something like "every citizen has free speech", with the implication that THE LAW is giving that right to citizens. That's the case in Europe. The USA says no, the citizen is BORN with that right as part and parcel of their humanity and therefore government can't even legislate on those rights. Belgium is basically TWO or THREE countries in one, I think it's TWO, those two major parts hardly interact at all. They even have separate political parties, the main party in each region DOESN'T CONTEST for office in the other regions, hardly at all. Belgium goes for YEARS without forming a national government. Spain? Brazil? I don't know too much about them, but I bet you if we looked up and researched it the importance of homogeneity will be obvious. Once you get the Big Picture, everything fits in almost all of the time. The ingredients of National Prosperity are known and confirmed by rigorous social & statistical research. Democracy, free markets, homogeneity or domination by one ethnic or religious culture and enforced private property rights are necessary for national prosperity, but don't guarantee it. Before picking examples of nations that don't fit, take note of trends and probability. The more of those 4 factors are present in a nation, the more likely it is to be prosperous and have high HDI. For Nigeria, one way it can create MORE homogeneity is to have TRIBAL STATES or regions with high levels of autonomy. That's an example of how these factors work, you gotta look at it with a level of intellectual synthesis. I believe that's what's coming in the USA. Good Luck to Nigeria. |

IbeOkehie: What intrigues me about California is that the economy is so big and the state is populated even when conservatives bemoan its policies and talk about leaving. But yes, the social policies are terrible. I even read where Newsom signed a bill into law preventing parents from having a say on whether schools can prevent transgender mumbo-jumbo. That is the same state where it is lawful to steal provided the total sum is below $1000 or less. Good gracious lord! Belgium is basically TWO or THREE countries in one, I think it's TWO, those two major parts hardly interact at all. They even have separate political parties, the main party in each region DOESN'T CONTEST for office in the other regions, hardly at all. Belgium goes for YEARS without forming a national government. That happened a few years ago. There was no national government because the French and Dutch parties could not agree. Spain? Brazil? I don't know too much about them, but I bet you if we looked up and researched it the importance of homogeneity will be obvious. Once you get the Big Picture, everything fits in almost all of the time. Brazil is where the US is heading in the next decade or so. Spain has the majority Spaniard group, rather than just the Basque and Catalan groups. The Basque is a tiny minority compared to the Catalonia group. If Basque and Catalans were significant populations, there would be continuous rancour in the country. Also, each ethnic group has a level of autonomy within its region. The ingredients of National Prosperity are known and confirmed by rigorous social & statistical research. Democracy, free markets, homogeneity or domination by one ethnic or religious culture and enforced private property rights are necessary for national prosperity, but don't guarantee it. Also, the characteristics of the dominant ethnic group are important. Lee Kuan Yew stated this between Indians and Malays in Singapore. He stated (paraphrased) that Singapore would not be where it is if Indians had a significant share of the population because they debate unnecessarily. As for Malays, they tend to involve religion in almost everything. For Nigeria, one way it can create MORE homogeneity is to have TRIBAL STATES or regions with high levels of autonomy. That's an example of how these factors work, you gotta look at it with a level of intellectual synthesis. I believe that's what's coming in the USA. While this is possible on paper, how do you prevent migration between states? How do you prevent a group from forming a significant increase in another region? Or do you institute laws which explicitly prevent their inclusion in the political process? 1 Like |

Gerrard59: This is why I like discussing things with you. Sometimes I wonder what the hell happened to you, seriously. Anyway, While this is possible on paper, I no longer believe in strictly paper laws, there must be some metaphysical element to the national being. The USA made a serious error in assuming that everything can be reduced to paper legalisms. Look at the 14th Amendment intended to ensure equal citizenship for descendants of Black Slaves, now it has been exploited by all comers to turn the USA into a diversified state of confusion. This is kinda what I mean and what everyone should aspire to for their nation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXH1p8_jhc8 how do you prevent migration between states? It's not about prevention of migration, it's ALSO about encouraging migration. Set tax and minimum wage laws and traffic and property laws that attract migration or reduce it, the choice is yours. Every state or tribe should be free to set it's residency or citizenship requirements and who gets to vote. There should be zero complications here. This is what the Yoruba want to do in Lagos and I only blame them for their hypocrisy in wanting to partake in Niger Delta crude oil & natural gas resources at the same time. I sincerely don't understand what is so difficult about setting migration rules between states or regions and also giving them input or rights to reject or admit foreign immigrants as is the case in Canada. Here in the USA there are rules about how you get to be a resident of the various states if you choose to move between them. You can't just claim residency willy nilly. How do you prevent a group from forming a significant increase in another region? Or do you institute laws which explicitly prevent their inclusion in the political process? Yes you do and there's nothing wrong with it. It's dangerous to allow immigrants voting rights. Here in the USA, most immigrants and their descendants vote explicitly to get money from government, that is their ONLY concern. Again California tells the tale. Good Luck to Nigeria. |

IbeOkehie: I think you misunderstand me. Am a strong advocate for homogeneity of nations. I am against diversity. But I disagree that diversity is the main problem of Nigeria. Blacks have a serious problem, which is not diversity. Example Somalia is one of the most homogeneous countries, yet they are one of poorest countries and is a failed state. 1 Like |
