blowjohn:University education is for matured minds. It's not all about passing exams and making good grades. Can they apply it? We have problems in the unis because kids are allowed to take adult decisions. The UK education is world class because "A" levels is a requirement for admission to undergrad program. Very few get their "A" levels at 16. |

Rubbish!! Absolute rubbish In an age where 12 years old kids are programming AI and becoming cloud specialists, a bunch of demagogues think restricting access to education based on age is a bright idea When will Nigeria be able to catch up with the rest of the developed world with this kind of leaders? And I see some ignoramus supporting this? Terrible!! |

Vision101:Where did you get the idea that a teenager is not a matured mind. University is about education and enlightenment not maturity or some fattening experience akin to coming of age. So if a student gets A levels at 16, we'll she be denied admission in the UK? |
Re: No More Admissions Into Higher Institutions For Persons Below 18 Years - FG by Beremx(f): 12:46pm On Jul 18 |
wman:the scheme of work for both classes aren't the same. Primary 6 prepares you better for JS1 than primary 5. Mind you, it's only private schools that have stopped having primary 5 though not all private schools. All government primary schools have primary 6. |

Then JAMB should stop collecting money from 16 years or better still increase validity of the exam to 3years for 16years that scored above the average scores! |

Very foolish policy, you don't create a policy without putting something in place that will cover for the vacuum you have created. So a child finish sec school at 16. What will the child be doing for 2 years for crying out loud ? What is the benefit of this policy, because I don't know, someone should enlighten me. This is just stupid |

Anyway, there are some schools of thought in educational philosophy, psychology, and even religion that would agree with this policy. |

Some private schools don't even have primary six. From 5, you are out. Some have designed an ingenious way by doing From 4 to 6 just to confirm with government regulation that you must have primary 6 |

This is actually age based discrimination. Education is a universal right that should not be denied either due to gender, age, tribe or religion. I hope he can be sued It's because Nigerians don't know their rights that is why the whole polity is strewn with domestic tyrants. What is his rationale for this edicts, we need statistics and data and not promugulated decrees |

Nigeria my country, By the time they add; the age of the kids at entry point let's say 6years to 6 years in pry sch to another 6 years in secondary school then 4 years in university plus 2 years for ASSU strikes then we will be having graduates of 24 years then 1 year in NYSC making 25 years, , |

othermen: Not true - In the US, you cannot apply to write the LSAT (Law School Aptitude Test) t o gain admission to study Law if you do not have a 4 year degree- Meanwhile, In Nigeria, anyone, fresh from one secondary school - "barely able to clean their anus in terms of reasoning and life experience" will write WAEC and JAMB in "miracle centers" and baam! - they are reading Law or Medicine in a University. In America, you can not read Medicine without, first, having a degree in one of the natural sciences like BCH (BioChem) MCB (MicroBiology) or even Pure and Applied Chemistry. Even for regular degrees like (Business Admin, Political Science, Philosophy or even Finance) most times - most schools prefer you get your 2 year Associate Diploma (what we call OND) from a Community College before applying for a degree program so they can evaluate your ability to cope with the University degree program - Naija always finds a way to bastardize and make chaotic - things done with integrity and orderliness in other climes -------> why the rush to graduate kids from Universities when they may be book smart but lacking emotional intelligence required for a balanced University education? Why not enrol that kid in vocational education to spend that age 16 - 18 learning a life skill so when they get to the university- they can be earning a living with their new skill and sustaining themselves while in school to reduce the financial pressure on their parents ? What is the need of graduating at age 19, serve at age 20 and becomes miserably unemployed - doing yahoo yahoo and hook up from age 21 to 40? rabbissshhh!!!! |

What is this man's rationale for this edict. Why must everyone be educated at the same pace. When u bring up people that have no futuristic mindset. Should the minister of education be regulating geniuses? Should he not be encouraging prodigies? These men are laggards who have no business leading us. |

ndan: You have done well bro With such skill, she can survive on her own if resources take time to get to her from home. Too many children with no survival skills in the University. But government must stop the issue of strikes and also the age benchmark setup by companies. |
