Igbo elders have asked Igbo living in other parts of Nigeria to shun the planned nationwide protest against hardship from August.

A statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Tuesday said the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, has cautioned against the protests due to historical antecedents where Igbo people have suffered disproportionately in the aftermath of major protests and riots.

Isiguzoro said the Igbo usually bear the brunt of any major protests nationwide where their lives and properties are destroyed across Nigeria.

The elder highlighted several past events, including the 1978 “Ali Must Go” protests, the 1989 anti-SAP riots, the 1993 June 12 protests, the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protests, and the 2020 EndSARS protests, where the Igbo reportedly faced significant losses of lives and property.

The statement said, “First and foremost, the prevailing security challenges in the Southeast region pose insurmountable obstacles to the safe conduct of protests and riots.

“In recognition of this reality, any nationwide protest scheduled within the Southeast is hereby revoked, with a clear directive that the Igbo will not partake.”

Isiguzoro added that forcing such protests risks exacerbating the existing security dilemmas in the Southeast, creating opportunities for criminal elements and external Igbo detractors to exploit the situation and instigate further chaos.

“Secondly, the fear of Igbo once again being perceived as sacrificial lambs in the forthcoming nationwide protests is a legitimate concern.

“In this regard, Ohaneze Ndigbo calls upon Igbo residents in the 19 northern states and southwestern regions to boycott the looming protests for their safety and security.”

Good one, we don't need their presence in the protest, we have the number to achieve our goal without the participation of the minority. We voted for Tinubu single handedly without Igbos so we don't need them now. Tinubu knows that if the North blacklist him he automatically lost his chances in the next election. You didn't vote for him so your boycotting the protest is inconsquential

You really didn't need to say it out loud.

I believe it's common sense for the Igboid stock to stay clear of this..

Out of all the miscreants that were caught and jailed during the End SARS mayhem in Lagos, only a certain Chinasa was handpicked and coloured around all the national media making it look like it was an Igbo sponsored act.

Why should Igbos/biafrans be protesting for the betterment of the Zoo.

It is better to let that contraption die a slow but natural death and it is going to happen just a matter of when.

Are the igbos in the north and west not suffering too from this economic hardship? Why must we tribalised a simple protest meant to sent a message to the government about there bad policies?
I wept for this country!
I don't understand you.

You mean our billionaires are also facing economic hardships?

I thought it's Ebinpawa people and Abokis hunger dey wire 🤔

Meanwhile, feel free to protests but don't destroy anything in Southwest.

As someone from Edo state, I support their take, let's see where the other hatefilled ethnic group will channel their frustrations during and after the protest. The cry babies of Nigeria always look for ways to blame Igbos for all their woes and the woes of Nigeria.

Shame on this disunited and confused nation.

See how they've made the protest about them, most victims during protest against the government are hausas in the south.

With a known druglord like tinubu and his bastards APC rascals, Nigeria will never see any progress for 8 years, apart from hardship and propaganda.

This isn't about he who has ears. They've maintained severally that they didn't support tinubu so, only those who voted him should protest for disappointing them while they stay aloof. It's common sense.

I support this because I can see they're the most hated and marginalised tribe in Nigeria. I've always been an advocate of the igbos. I share in the baba Ayo Adebanjo and OBJ's school of thoughts. A tree doesn't make a forest. I've been wrongly tagged igbo by several illiterate supporters of Tinubu who are now suffering and smiling but who cares? Iwofa lęnu.

During the endsars protest of 2020, they fingered igbos, despite the obvious as the brain behind it. They blindly ignored the viral video of our youths swimming inside the oba akiolu's palace's pool, enjoying themselves after carting away his dollars stashed inside coffin and acussed ibos of staging the protest

Give an ibo man the chance to rule for just 4 years and see what alot of you have been blinded from seeing cos of tribalism. Now that it's our turn, what have we made of it? Any protests that erupt in Nigeria is always linked to ibo. That's inhumanity against man. Let them go, una refuse. Please if you're ibo, don't join that protest before haters begin burning down your investments.

Staying away doesn't make you cowards cos I know you're not cowards. Stay in your homes and allow those who caused us this mess to stage the protest alone. We warned them. They say you're tribalists but you voted obasanjo twice, even when we abandoned him in his first term in office.

They should rest.

All these back and forth talks is a deliberate way of making the protest idea popular.

Everybody can protest in their states and doesn't have to come to Lagos to show strength.

Since Nigeria tribalised politics and vote along tribal lines then it's important that those who voted this useless APC twice go for the protest
