If u are career oriented and want to grow in ur chosen field don't near govt job unless u are ready to play politics. U have opportunity for growth and even move to a bigger company for more pay. That 180k u can be earning times 5 of that in the private sector in less than 10yrs. But u see that govt 100k u start with, u might not get up to 200k till u retire. Forget all this side hustle talk, how many civil servants can boast of a good side hustle especially in this Tinubu economy. The ball is in ur court. I had this same dilemma 10yrs ago when I left the university I thank God I made the best decision even when my uncle who helped secured the job tried convincing me otherwise. If it's not a revenue generating federal agency like FIRS, NIMASA, NPA DPR and the likes oboy no reason am go for ur private sector job.

That 100k the government job is offering you is gross pay. Meaning your net pay would be around 70k. What can you use 70k for in this Tinubu's inflation era?

You should know that any private firm offering you 180k as start-up pay is obviously a standard firm. Meaning there is room for growth, promotion and salary increment.

Also your 180k gross should be about 150-160k net. Which if you ask me is fair compared to receiving about 70k monthly.

It's up to you to make your choice.

As long the government is not a government generating agency forget it, you would be on 100k salary for maybe 5-7 years before there's an increments plus delayed salary payment plus once you retire you go stand for line before you get your gratuity or pension

What's your prospect? Not all government jobs are advisable. Define yourself and the said job!

Personally I will advice you go for the government Job. With the harsh economic environment now most comparable are shutting down and you wouldn't want to be caught unawares, couple with the fact that companies will milk out every penny they pay you in terms of workload and other activities. At least with government Job and the increase of minimum wage you'll get peace of mind plus job security.

Govt job provides job security especially in this economic meltdown. Its risky to go for a private job especially if it is a one man biz

Some years ago, a friend called for a meeting with those if his closer friends and asked this same question.
The government job was in the Nigerian Railway and the private was a sub contractor firm to one of the IOCs. He would basically be like a PA to the main boss.
We all adviced him to go with the subcontractor work based on the fact that if he has an eye for side business or any form of ideal investment then it's a go.
He chose the later and he was able to achieve alot not until his boss kicked the bucket and the another firm was given the contract. He is not doing bad at all till date.

Government anyday anytime. Most of these commissioners and senator don't even work more than 5times a month and their allowance come in steadily giving them time to chase other things. Private firms are confused right now.

And that's exactly the reason the country is the way it is, when as a people we adopt and encourage this kind of attitude.
As for those other things they are chasing at the expense of work they are paid for but don't do, it will eventually come back to bite them.
