A coalition of human rights defenders under the aegis of Action Group on Free Civic Space has urged the Lagos State government to demonstrate impartiality by withdrawing charges against Frederick Nwajagu and releasing him after 15 months of imprisonment.

The group appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the Commissioner of Justice to enter a nolle prosequi to ensure Nwajagu’s immediate release.

This group made the call in a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH by one of its members, Okechukwu Nwanguma of Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre on Friday in Lagos.

It criticised the swift arrest and prosecution of Nwajagu while ignoring those who attacked Igbos in Lagos, suggesting ethnic bias

The coalition stressed that selective justice undermines the rule of law and fuels social strife.

Recall that Nwajagu was arrested in April 2023 for allegedly threatening to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra to Lagos to protect Igbo properties.

In the viral 49-second video, Nwajagu called on IPOB to protect Igbo shops and properties against these incessant violent attacks.

Unnecessary request. Those who have been hailing the man for standing up to the Lagos state government, what have they done to assist him financially?

The Lagos State government should swiftly arrest Okechukwu Nwanguma too and make him roommate to his fellow IPOB member, Frederick Nwajagu inside the prison.

You cannot run away from IPOB flogging you every Monday to be enjoying yourself in Lagos, but after enjoying the good life in SW, you suddenly remember you need to invite your IPOB members to come and scatter the peaceful region.

If you are missing your IPOB terrorist brothers, relocate back to your region.

What have you learned in life too? Hurry up ok.

I learned never to be useless online and be creating dedicated monikers to be trolling others for years. That's a braindead life. Wasteful life.

Nothing useless in life as that. I am grateful

Imagine the audacity, telling the governor to release a terrorist because he's from a particular region. These people don't know the implications of their election gimmick of 2023, any governor that panders to their demands now in the SW will be treated as a traitor, him and his party will lose woefully.

From now on, Yoruba are going to be real tribalists. When we were liberal, they said we are conservative, now we have decided to face them Bigots to Bigots, let everyone answer his father's name.

Hahaha hahaha!

They are really attacking and dealing with the Igbos but the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 is in the hands of the South East and South South to decide.

I don't know why south east are worrying themselves just allow them to continue their silly games before 2027 I will see the face thy will use to come to us.

If the North reject them and the east I wonder how they will win?

The man still dey hooked for this charges

"It criticised the swift arrest and prosecution of Nwajagu while ignoring those who attacked Igbos in Lagos, suggesting ethnic bias"

It's true the man don suffer enough...I will advise this organisation to focus on ways to get the government to release him...such statement as above wont help the matter.

You mean this man is still in custody? Chai these people are just chest beaters nothing more, thought with their sophistication his chest beating brothers would’ve broken him outta jail.
Lagos state shouldn’t withdraw any charges let him do his time there to serve as a deterrent that Lagos is somebody’s land or better still he should wait for GRV to be governor before anyone can listen to him .

His outburst was understandable until he involved the words of using a proscribed terrorist group in Nigeria... That was his FC!kup..

A lot of people have said worse and done worse and still walk about freely in our public space..

He should constructively engage the LASG and let them know about his true intentions when making that speech..

I do believe his emotions got the best of him but if truly he does have confirmed ties to IPOB, then his reprimand should stand..
