The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken delivery of 17 locomotive-driven wagons for cargo operations on the national rail networks.

This is in continuation and consolidation of freight services launched by the Federal Ministry of Transportation in June this year.

The cargo train which arrived in Lagos on Monday, July 15, will depart for the Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano, on Friday, July 19.

While monitoring its arrival at the Ebute Metta station in Lagos, NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria described the feat as part of efforts at realising the federal government’s objective of promoting the ease of doing business.

He added that the journey was made during the daytime, to ensure the safety of the personnel and the goods.

The Nigerian government believes the cargo haulage system will ease the movement of goods from the ports to the hinterlands while reducing not only the number of articulated vehicles on the roads but also averting possible mishaps.

What about the railway coach manufacturing plant in Kajola, Ogun state?

NRC should be getting its wagons from there.

Or is it not operational?

This is a commendable move by the FG! The delivery of these train wagons will significantly enhance our freight services and boost the economy. Investing in rail infrastructure is a step in the right direction for efficient transportation.

COACH ain't wagon. The latter is the engine-head that pulls the body which is the former and which is what the plant at KAJOLA produces. What they procure there are the locomotives.

FG should link the rail to a dry port in Onitsha or ABA.....That dey port will be more viable than KANO own.

Offcourse,In Nigerian, economic decisions has always been made with political reasons!
