Hello folks, I really want to educate myself on this subject. Do you guys actually buy shares of the company; I mean owning part of the company physically? Or buying through brokers? For example, Nnpc have a stake of 7.5% in dangote refinery, how can someone buy the remaining 12.8% shares? Do you buy through brokers? Or is there a way that can be done? I'm not trying to say I have the bread to get the shares. Just trying to understand how stock market works. Thanks you. |

SpaceX: the number of shares (in most cases, ordinary common shares) you purchase is pretty much a percentage of the total available portion for ownership. so out of 100 % of outstanding shares of a company available for purchase, the percentage you own is pretty much the amount you own relative to the outstanding share. For ease of concept, using your example, to get 12.8%, you simply calculate what 12.8% of available outstanding shares of dangote refinery is (will need to wait for the issued shares information to be out when it gets listed on NSE for better info), multiply it by the price of the day or whatever price you target to purchase it for, pay the amount and brokerage fee Voila! you beat NNPC to the race. Remember, available shares for transaction varies with time and other numerous factors considering other investors have equity pre-IPO.The higher the percentage you acquire, the more challenging it gets to purchase through direct market, you will need to use your broker for off-market/ crossdeal purchase for faster transaction. If patience is your middle name, you can acquire over period of weeks to years. You can search investopedia webpage for more info on review of issued shares / outstanding shares. if yo stil have questions, drop here, peeps will help out. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Please house, i noticed there is always a discrepancy between figures i see online for stock report analysis by some sites like tradeview, invest.com and others compared to what the company actually reported. See attached below. Picture 1 from website and Picture 2 a snipet of Access bank report for FY 2023. The figures don't tally

unite4real: Someone wrote on whatsapp: we have crude oil but were importing refined products because the bad ones amongst us destroyed the refineries! Now we have a refinery, we have started importing crude oil to refine!! NNPCL is a public company yet there's nothing public about it as everything is shrouded in secrecy. Naija is in such a conundrum that when you think things are about to get better they only get worse.... Corruption etc... has always encouraged divide and rule so no unity for common good!!! 1 Like |

SpaceX:To answer your question properly, check my timeline here to get an idea of my thought process and what books, audiovisual financial materials and scanners i use for value investing. My approach may not be useful considering our goals may not be the same, but as you read through you will find someone whose idea and approach make sense to you. Of utmost importance, read this thread from the beginning (it gives you an idea of the nigerian economic landscape) . Understanding the past make the work of future assessment easy to adapt to . 2019-2020 is a landmark as well considering it's a year of reset Also, it will do you a lot of good. As you read through, you will find other folk that have gems laid everywhere. cheat code: open two pages of this thread, one is to start from the beginning while another is to keep up with current update on the thread. All you need to succeed in NGX and to a reasonable extent other markets has been laid in this forum. If you have issues that doesn't make sense, don't be shy, be respectul, quote the section properly, peeps here are friendly and helpful enough to address the issue from their experience. Streetinvestor2: Funny to see the petty side of Alh. aliko throwing shade at Turaki dubai IYKY . but knowing Dangote industries antecedent, backing out of steel is penny wise pound foolish approach by the board. They will be back knowing how much they are leaving on the table if African industries (steel processing/manufacturing, iron ore mining in nigeria) and BUA are left as the two major players in this space. 1 Like 1 Share |

Everybody wants somebody to "bend the knee". "The Cabal" vs Dangote Refinery. Between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery who is listing first? "Na power struggle for the pie", but done in a very tactless way. It was Landmark, now Dangote. Lagos breeze is different oo. |

I hope with the new week NSEMPA will come back to discussing the stock market and ease off on the Dangote issue. As they say "bother with what you can control". Let the rich and powerful sort themselves out. I am struggling with many questions on UCAP. What is their actual plan in paying such high interim dividend and an unpresidented bonus? How does it fit in the ongoing recapitalization of banks? What will happen to the share price post adjustment? Should I sell and take capital gain or wait and take the bonus? |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by toyeoye(m): 7:34am On Jul 22 |
Raider76: Sounds like a selfish statement cos you want to discuss your own UCAP instead of Dangote..if he decides to delist from the NGX, over a fifth of the total value is gone! Let those who hold the shares use the sentiments discussed to make informed decisions. 5 Likes |

toyeoye: He can still be appeased by government.. wouldn't be wise on his part to give up the steel project because of unrelated issues of oil refinery... he also stands to gain a lot.. why let farouk and his cabal succeed in their ploy to stop him? I think Dangote knows better than to just capitulate like that. He is made of sterner stuff. Like i said, i think its just sabre rattling... they'll sort it out.. Tinubu will step in and hopefully sack loud mouthed farouk 1 Like |
