Sometimes ago, some shared how to calculate what price of a stock will become after markdown for bonus issue. Considering that UCAP is giving 2:1 and 0.90k dividend, what will be the share price on the next trading day post qualification.

If price closed at say N40 on date of qualification:
Price on next trading day would be (N40 minus 90k) divided by 3 = 13.03 (actually N13.00 given the 5kobo price range for UCAP).

Actually you have two values depending on how you deduct the dividend:

1) (40.00/3)-0.90 = 12.43
2) (40-0.90)/3 = 13.03

Most likely they will do second one so the price will be N13.00

that's correct and then outstanding shares will flip from 6B units to 18B units for those that will start rushing at N13, thinking it is cheap, to take note.

It depends on your investment objectives........but could have been best entered before the announcement or as soon as announcement was made.
Corporate Action is not yet out anyway, so not late in terms of qualification date....
Some long termers are still buying...
You can wait for pullback if you're a bonus and Dividend lover.

Just theorizing my sister.. i dey the bus tey tey.. think i bought around N15ish.. maybe I'll pick up some more when price is marked down and if the price slides further for a few more days... otherwise I'm good

Corruption endemic...

The embattled Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has said that she was allegedly being victimised by some cabals in government because she refused to sign a $500 million World Bank loan request.

On July 10, 2024, a near physical confrontation between Kennedy-Ohanenye, and the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development was averted at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, where the minister had appeared to clarify the controversy surrounding her alleged diversion of N1.5 billion meant for the payment of contractors by officials of the ministry.

But speaking with THISDAY through a phone interview, the minister said that “There is a $500 million loan that was meant to be signed by me, but I refused to sign. There was also a case of $100 million earlier as well. Find out what it was meant for.

“All the loans they collect, including World Bank loans, etc, are you aware that the same World Bank staff in Nigeria takes back 40 per cent and calls it consultation fees?

“These are things you people should look into. You people should focus on where the problem is and let them leave me alone.”

She added: “Now, my life is at stake because I refused to sign the $500 million loan. Let me tell you, if I sign that loan today, I am entitled to five per cent of the money, but I refused to sign it. It is part of why the National Assembly and all of them are after me.

“And that 40 per cent they take is a secret, I found it out. Why should anybody give us a loan and you still direct us how to use the loan, and you take 40 per cent and provide us with a consultant that will take it, and they will take it?

“I told them $100 million is too much to use to teach our women how to save money, we can teach them, let them bring the $100 million and give it to those women and use it to know what to do with their lives."

if you are a dividend hunter and targeting anything 10% and above, then the entry should be around N9

It is either 13 or 13.05. Only existing shares qualify for dividend, and the bonus shares can only become existing shares after the qualification date.

Don't think it will drop to N9.00. Many will rush to buy. And those who will hold beyond qualification date are mainly long term holders and not likely to sell. And you know that the bonus shares will not also be allocated immediately and are not available for sale. So price most likely will go up.

Also in the UCAP corporate Action announcement there's an item which says there will be an Extraordinary General Meeting on August 21. Some are speclatiing that among other things maybe UCAP's management will be authorized to buy or merge with a Merchant Bank during the recapitalization exercise. If this were to happen it will affect the price.

Then why tax them if they are not monotized. Will the banks pay the said tax buy selling those assets or from the small money wey them fey follow give us the usual peanut.

50% Tax on 2023 Bank Forex Gains

I am still surprised at the whole thing.

A bank that has foreign instruments in dollars, mostly in subsidiaries outside Nigeria plus some dollar assets on loan to Nigerian companies like Dangote Refinery. Is the government saying they should sell some of those assets to generate cash for tax?. Those of their foreign subsidiaries or those of the main Nigerian subsidiary in order to create cash to give government. Sounds senseless.

Perhaps it's un-invested liquid assets of the banks that will be grabbed for calculating the tax. To me it's like calling Dangote to come and pay forex gain tax on his refinery because the refinery cost $18b which translates to Naira 9T in 2023 Q1 but became N18T in 2024Q4 with a notional FX gain of N9T now to be taxed at 50%. More clarity needed as some greedy politicians must be mistaking the FX gains of banks as raw cash. They may push the banks to find it more attractive to declare FX losses which will be very very bad for the already weak economy.

"Zenith Bank recently commenced recapitalisation efforts with the conclusion of its Capital Markets Day held on 11th July 2024. It aims to raise the least amount of capital amongst its peers at N230 billion, considering it already maintains a robust capital base of N270.7 billion."

I believe this means that the outstanding shares and EPS won't be severely impacted by their recapitalization exercise ?
