Nothing to see here. NNPC is just a typical government owned agency/parastatal/corporation. Forget about the NNPC Limited they call it now, it is still a federal government run establishment where the leadership is occupied by political office holders. The current chairman of board of NNPC Pius Akinyelure is Tinubu's padi who was former APC vice chairman. The man himself is a seasoned oil and gas expert.

I don't think whatever goes on in NNPC is about being Northerners or something along that line. Different ethnic groups work within NNPC and I believe every group is carried along in whatever scam is being run within that space

The point I am making is that normally once northerners are involved in rofo rofo, they will solve it internally. I witnessed an issue like that at a lower level. A contractor who should have been sacked and who was out of control. They resolved by meeting in oga at the tops place. I had worked with 'special' vendors but everyone still dey stay in their lane and try to respect process small. I am likely prejudiced but I have witnessed a sad decline I will probably discuss some day

Have you seen this

I've seen it. Dangote and the people he's snitching on are birds of the same feather jare. I'm less concerned about his current ordeal, he's been in bed with these people for so long. He's only coming out now because this government is not "favoring him and his family " ni

Dangote , his friend Otedola and Adeshina have got Treblechamp where they want him to be .

In one breath they claim this whole issue is not about Dangote wanting to enjoy monopoly and in another breath they are saying “ Dangote cannot be asked to compete with importers “….smh . Just look at the screenshot from the Otedola’s tweet.

Why can’t Dangote compete with importers ? What makes him special ? I thought it is a free market . Dangote is free to source crude from anywhere in the world and he’s also free to export refined product to any country in the world .

So why does he want the FG to ban importers from importing products that will compete with his own refined product in Nigeria ? Did he sign any agreement with NNPC that gives him such privilege ?

I mean this is the same Dangote that has continually maintained that siting of Dangote refinery in Nigeria doesn’t necessarily mean we will be buying cheap fuel . This is the same Dangote that set up a London trading office just for the purpose of managing crude and fuel deals for his refinery all over the world .

Investing in Nigeria for Tinubu economy?

Unless your village people have agreed to finish your life. Cos I can't think of why anyone would invest even 1 kobo after seeing what happened with Dangote, Binance and all the multinationals running away

A solid point is made on energy security, but I wonder if Nigeria's energy needs would be priority if for any reason he's getting better prices for his crude oil products outside Nigeria.

Herein lies ur answer . Dangote is doing everything he's doing for profit motive.

If tomorrow he gets crude for a better price from let's say Iran, do u think he will buy from Nigeria? Especially if he didn't sign any agreement with NNPC that he's under compulsion to buy from them.

If u remember immediately the refinery was commissioned by Buhari we started hearing stuff like " The Dangote refinery will not necessarily make fuel cheaper". Whereas all through the construction period we were under the impression that the refinery will solve all our energy crises in this country. We were seeing it as a joint venture between the FG and Dangote to end our oil and gas problem. It was then Dangote came out and started singing a different tune.

I don't pity him one bit because he was part of the con job done on us for so long

This is not just about Dangote bro, we have seen foreign Company's leaving the Country recently. Govt should find a solution to this matter, so as not to discourage intending investors. That is my own position on this matter....

You are conflating different issues together.

Those companies leaving the country are citing foreign exchange losses, high interest rate , etc as their reasons which we have dragged FG for.

But Dangote is moaning about being asked to compete with importers. They are two different things.

This is business oh. This is you undercutting local producers.

Let's say you and others have cement factory, will you as a person and the cement industry be happy for the import of cement into the country?

This year we saw how farmers in Europe protested against the import of Ukraine's farm produce into their countries .They protested because it will undercut their own produce.

What Dangote said is very very correct. NNPC importing in large volumes will undercut him and other local refineries. NNPC are still the sole importer of refined petroleum products into the country.

Everything u have written here is just sentiment and nothing else.

Have the importers been existing before the advent of Dangote refinery? Yes!

Did FG/NNPC enter into any agreement with Dangote that they(NNPC) will cut off importers as soon as Dangote refinery come up? I don't know; I'm sure you don't know this as well.

So far there is no contract or agreement binding NNPC to Dangote and vice versa, make each party do what works for them.

IMHO.

Dangote refinery would have impacted d country positively in terms of forex and "cut-cost".
Wheater monopoly or otherwise,we have think about its positivity.

We are over-reliant on imports and this has taken us aback...in a bid to maintain balance,we should encourage local satisfaction and exportation with his products.

We can as well begin the fight if and only if his price tag becomes dubious...

Is the forex side I am even looking at. Some analysts are saying it will save the country 30/40 percent of foreign exchange.

Addendum. If he starts exporting, it will bring in forex too

The fuel importation business was existing before Dangote began work on his refinery, so why should that business be killed for the new entrant. You can make a case for Dangote based on other reasons, but this one you're trying to push isn't it at all.

If indeed Dangote refinery will save cost and thus make his product cheap, why then is he not flooding the market with that cheap product so that the expensive product of the importers will not sell?

Pray tell

So they should kill importation off for him who is a new entrant ba? Where is the logic in that ?

So tomorrow if Dangote wakes and says he can only afford to sell "not enough" quantity to Nigeria while exporting majority of his refined products, what will we do?

I guess we will all start blaming NNPC for fooolishly leaving Dangote to decide when we get fuel and what quantity we get as a nation.

The earlier u start seeing Dangote refinery for what it is ( A private business set up for the sole aim of making profit), the better .

You didn't answer any of my question.

PIA was signed into law in 2021. Before then the petroleum market was not deregulated.

Prior to 2021, NNPC are the sole importer of refined petroleum products.

After 2021, NNPC are still the sole importer of refined petroleum products.

There are no marketers importing refined petroleum products anywhere.
https://leadership.ng/despite-pia-petrol-import-monopoly-persists/

There's no new entrants anywhere.

US is one of the highest producer of oil in the world and they still import and EXPORT oil.

I don't understand why some people want Dangote to be the only one calling the shot with his refinery.

If your own oil is cheaper, marketers will buy it over the imported own because they themselves want to make profit and cut cost.
