Ahead of the proposed nationwide protest, the Federal Capital Territory police command has deployed a total of 4,200 policemen across the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital.

The command also announced the deployment of explosive ordinance device experts at various strategic locations.

The command in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the deployment was to ensure public safety, protection of protesters and to prevent the protests from being hijacked by non-state actors.

She added that there would be raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, and stop and search operations among others in collaboration with sister security agencies.

She said, “The FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the planned nationwide protest by some human rights activists and Nigerian youths to publicly express their displeasure over hunger and hardship, has proactively deployed material and human resources across the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital.

“The proactive deployment, which is aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting protesters, and preventing protests from being hijacked by non-state actors, is characterised by visibility policing, the deployment of explosive ordnance device experts and personnel at various strategic locations, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and synergy with sister security agencies.”

Adeh noted that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, warned that the destruction of public and private properties would not be tolerated during the protest.

She said, “The Commissioner of Police FCT, while acknowledging the right of residents to protest, advises that it should be peaceful.

"The CP vows to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives.”

Adeh urged residents to be vigilant and take advantage of the police emergency lines to report suspicious activities.
PUNCH online reports that the nationwide protest is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 10, 2024.
The protest is over the hardship experienced by citizens in the country.

To be honest, the president is trying, people thought he will be worse than this, people thought that by this time, corpses of hungry people will be dropping in every streets and people may not not have power to Bury anyone.

Please don't protest, wait till half of the country kpai before you start complaining. Only people who voted the disaster should protest their stupidity with apologies to all other Nigerians.

People are seriously creating awareness in the north about mass protest on August 1. People have made music in Hausa encouraging people to come out and town criers are going to marketplaces to create awareness. Northerners are sharing all this on X but agbadorians are only interested in OBIdients on Nairaland.

They dont care about Northerners because they are not in the North

Who should care about things happening elsewhere

They also dont care about what happens in the East

They only care about their region and that shouldnt bother u
U cant ask them to ignore what happened during the Endsarsm especiall from a group that wouldnt hold same protest in their own region

The presence of the police is to ensure that protesters are protected and to arrest anyone who wants to stop protesters from exercising their constitutional rights.
Joining a protest is not an illegal activity

Rest! People have obtained police clearance to protest in Lagos and one of them is all over X encouraging people to come out that day. Lagos Police PRO Benjamin Hundeyin has even acknowledged their letters on X. People will definitely protest in Lagos. The discussion here is that it should be peaceful.

Why is it that the people saying "ibos are not interested in protest" are the ones having high blood pressure over the protest?.

If the police were this proactive against bandits and other criminals, we would have had a safer environment

Now we know that this government is anti-people, they love bandits and hate their own citizens

Okay

Do your job by securing lives and properties
Don't touch any civilian and the peaceful protesters in the other hand must not deviate from just carrying placards to carrying sticks or try to steal.

We know our criminal government will send sabo to come cause wahala, we can avoid wahala by picking those idi0ts and handing them over to the police
