Two more ECONOMIC capitals needs to be built from scratch in Calabar and portharcourt and possibly Kaduna and lokoja.

The money proposed for the LAGOS Calabar way, should have been used to invest in Calabar, as a new centre of economy.just the way Abuja was built.

Not only will it foster development but will engender healthy cooperation and competition amonst the economic blocks.

It will also assuage the fear of the Yorubas of loosing their precious LAGOS( former Nigerias capital)

LAGOS was a colonial and FG initiative

It was never a Yoruba initiative

See this one

Calabar was the first capital of Nigeria until WW1 and German Cameroun next door forced Lugard to move the capital to Lagos

Calabar was reduced to a mere province under the Old Eastern Region with Enugu built from scratch using the resources from minority provinces.

It's now you remember Calabar. When Calabar was trapped in your eastern Region it was totally neglected for Enugu project.

Where is that your Enugu today in the scheme of things ?

It's good that you are all now seeing the tribal bigotry and Ibo supremacist ideology and practices of Zik and his minions.

Instead of ensuring Calabar compete with Lagos, Zik was more bothered dragging Lagos and building Enugu .

It's now you see the strategic geo-economic relevance of calabar.

Good morning.

Lagos was separate from South and Northern regions

Lagos colony was later joined with Southern Nigeria in 1906 or so.

Lagos had been a business district for nearly 200 years before it was joined with Southern Nigeria.

However, under the military the other parts of Lagos was forcefully made Lagos like Ikeja business district etc..

Nonetheless, Lagos is not the capital of Nigeria anymore, Focus on Abuja..

This is another strategy to loot. Our politicians (including Governors) since Buhari don't have the brain for economic development, all the see is opportunity to loot in the guise of project.

The best thing would be to give any willing individual not less than N10million grant or long term loan to do business with strong agreement that the person would produce in Nigeria and daily monitoring of the person's business activities as well as heavy sanction or prison sentence where they default, just like China did and today they're one of the top productive economy in the world.

If we want to grow, we need new set of politicians with a better mindset, but we can only get those possibly from diaspora Nigerians.

Lagos was not viable but it's one of few cities or state in Nigeria that Adopted a name European traders gave to it.

Lagos has been viable since before the beginning of slave trade long before the British thought of coming to Africa..

Oyo used the whydah port in Benin Republic not the LAGOS port,

Benin used the port at ghotun, not the LAGOS port.

Until improvements to ships in the mid to late 19th century

18th century ships had difficulty berthing in LAGOS ports due to the terrain etc

You Yorubas need to do soul searching about the knowledge you hold,I have come to realise the Yorubas are victims of a lot of miseducation and misinformation.
It's a honest genuine concern

The idea of having multiple capitals is quite intriguing. It could decentralize governance and ensure that resources are distributed more evenly across the nation. Imagine how much development could spring up in those regions!

However, the logistics of it all must be carefully considered. How will the infrastructure support this? What about the security and administrative aspects? It's essential we have a well-thought-out plan in place.

But if done right, this could be a game changer for Nigeria. A step towards real progress! Let's hope the FG takes this seriously and engages the right stakeholders in the conversation.

Not the first time I have seen a similar stupid thread created by another IPOB dunce

The first time I saw such foolishness was a post by an IPOB who was calling for zoning of the federal capital and he proposed it should start with Enugu.

How is this of any benefit to Nigerians ?

Only a people who are solely bent on federal handouts will reason like this.

When we are thinking of stripping the FG to its bare minimum responsibility and powers, some are pushing for rotational federal capital so that all the resources in Nigeria will be diverted to develop their backward enclaves.

Are these the kind of people who will support restructuring talk more of seeking independence ?

Building more capitals is a bold and visionary idea!
It shows the FG is thinking ahead for the future of Nigeria.
This could enhance governance and decentralize power, making it easier for people to access resources and opportunities. Let's hope they explore this idea thoroughly!

Good morning.

Coal was the major natural resource in the eastern region, and Port Harcourt was built with coal money from the Enugu region.
Oil was only discovered in the late 50s and more seriously exploited in the 60s and 70s, so Enugu was not built with money from the SS.

And by the way, 4 new commercial capitals need to be built in the remaining 4 regions that have no federally-constructed economic capitals.

One capital in the SS
One capital in the SE
One capital in the NW
One capital in the NE

This is a project that senators from all these regions ought to work together to achieve.

The SW already has Lagos, and the NC already has Abuja.

There are 72 senators from the zones with no federal capitals. They can cooperate to achieve this.

At least if this is achieved, Yorubas will be happier knowing that they will not be sharing Lagos with citizens from other parts of Nigeria, thus reducing the anxiety of Yorubas regarding Lagos. In such a situation, Igbos and other Nigerians will not mind if Tinubu makes the whole of Lagos, his piggy-bank, as people of other regions will now have their own federally-built cities to manage.

Personally I don't want to focus anywhere else. I only want to focus on Igboland.

The lawmakers of all the zones with no federal capital (present or past) ought to work together to ensure such is situated for the remaining four regions.
Estimate should be made of average federal money that was sunk into Lagos/Abuja over the past 115 years, and the same allocated to the remain four regions. This can't obviously happen overnight, but within a period of 50 years, so that Yorubas will be happy, knowing that Lagos will no longer be shared with other groups.
Also the other groups will be happy, seeing that they have their own federal territories.

So four federal capitals .

Why not just return to regionalism and have the existing geopolitcal zones have autonomy ?

You won't see this but want federal govt and Nigerians to come and build you a capital in your SE.

They have you SEDC and this is what you are now pushing for.

My proposal will ensure that every region is not short-changed.

Huge federal resources were pumped into both Abuja and Lagos. I have never read where you criticized the federal investments into Lagos and Abuja.

All of a sudden, you have problems now that I am proposing that huge federal resources ought to be pumped into the remaining 4 regions with no federal capital. No be juju be that
Especially now that Yorubas want no other group sharing Lagos with them.

The obvious solution is for the remaining 4 regions to work together to ensure the same level of federal investment and infrastructure that have been situated in Lagos/Abuja, are also situated in the other regions with no federal cities.

You should be happy with the proposal, after all it gives you the audacity to now tell Igbos to relocate to their own federal city, which btw, should be constructed in a territory with some sea access.

I propose that for the SE, the new city ought to be constructed in one of these territories, Ohaobu in Abia state of Oseakwa in Anambra state.

The money to construct these federal cities in the remaining 4 geopolitical zones will come FROM THE SAME FEDERAL GOVT PURSE used in financing all the federal infrastructures you find in Lagos and Abuja.

Left to me, there will be no further federal input in Lagos and Abuja, until all the other zones come up to speed, development-wise.
