Political Economist, Prof. Pat Utomi has described the panic by the state actors on the planned protest from August 1, as worrisome.

Utomi made the speech while addressing the at an unveiling of the ‘New Tribe.’

According to him, ‘New Tribe’ is a social group by citizens committed to personal integrity, social justice and sacrificial service to advance the common good of Nigeria over emotions of ethnicity and faith as often weaponized by political actors.

In his speech, he said: “The state of the motherland is certainly worrisome, so worrisome that notice by some not known people about impending protests have set off panic, threats, bullying and scapegoating resulting in prefabricated falsehoods by agents of the state.

“MAN and the chambers of Commerce are up in arms with the direction of interest rates as monetary authorities struggle to contain inflation with high interest rates and insecurity continues.

“In this season of the unmasking of yesterday’s pretenders and the shrinking of the club of truthsayers and those who truly believe in a just society it is not difficult to tell that the state of the motherland is of grave ill health.

“Surely values shape human progress and values seem to have taken flight from our current landscape and citizens have an obligation to seek restoration,” Utomi lamented.

The political economist said: “It is for the correction of this unfortunate outcome of our current experience that The New Tribe has been birthed.

“It is a coming together of citizens committed to personal integrity, a culture of merit and social justice, sacrificial service to advance the common good, the work ethic and making production an anchor of economic engagement and favour reason and rational disposition over emotions of ethnicity and faith often weaponized by political actors.

“The structure of the new tribe which is a nonpartisan but not an apolitical social movement is built on 14 cohorts of social action and seven cohorts of organization.

The new tribe due to be formally unveiled on October 1 has been much active since its portal went live on May 1.

“The most active cohorts as of now are the Health care cohort, the Ubuntu community cohort, the public accountability cohort, the Infrastructure and economic growth cohort and elections cohort.”

No panic. Governments especially LASG is just worried about infiltrators.

Meanwhile

Lagos is the commercial nerve center of Nigeria and it will affect the government more if it is held here especially if we use alaba international market as the center of the protest, since Alaba is where the government gets huge taxes to finance Lagos.

From a protester. This means there are motives already. Lets be wise and not destroy our country.

Protest is normal but this very one has been hijacked. Please nairalanders stay in your respective homes and don't join any protest. I love you all and want you all to stay safe.

COMRADES, protest should go on please

Protest is the fundamental rights of all the citizens of Nigeria

If Tinubu is jittery he should either resign or he should restore the fuel subsidy

In the idea setting, the people should be afraid of the government. However, when the government became the one to be afraid of the people, then there is trouble as something obvious has gone wrong.

I said it then, before this useless Apc government came on board that. Nigeria of today(2015) will be like a paradise to Nigeria of the future (2024)

Buhari wasted 8 years of your lives without nothing to show for it, and he retired in peace. Here are Nigerians going through hardship/suffering in PROmax

Just imagine! Hardship and suffering has become a normal way of life to people like this, but I do not blame him/her. I can’t share the same country with people like this that’s why I find my way out to saner environment.

I have said it. You share a country with stvpid/f00lish people who will always vote/support wicked ruler.

Nigeria is not worth dieing for, the Nigerian useless government kill her citizen without remorse. Don’t put your family in pain and agony.

Yes it is. Some are genuine protesters while some are just looking for an opportunity to try and distrupt the government because their candidate lost in the election.

What protest? Please, you people should just stay in your house oo, I have a business to run. Instead of you to go to the ballot and cast your vote for the right candidate, or protest when the election was being rigged, you allowed these demons get in power and become 10x stronger for you to decide to protest... Tinubu should send the military to to the streets and quel any kind of descent. Bunch of idiots.

The government is in panic mode, but Nairaland 30k receivers are acting like they know better.

Threatening with army and police, forgetting the entired military and paramilitary combined, can't stand when full blown anarchy blows out.

As little as endsars was, how many policemen or station was opened?

The government should stay out of this protest, it's always peaceful until the government gets involved.
