Yam seedling costs 400 Naira max. So, wgy should yams sell so costly ?

A plit can accomodate 600 tubers and would only need some table spoons of NPK fron start till harvest, so why the expensive price. Most Nigerians thesedays heartlessly and indiscrimately increases the orice of their products to take advantage of their fellow human beings. Thieves

Since you know the answer, why not plant, harvest and sell at N1000 per tuber?

"Farmers can't access farms" is a chronic Iie.
In Benue where herdsmen àttàck people in the bush, they still go to farm everyday, Benue is the largest yam producer in Nigeria.
U can say farm supplements are expensive leading to high price but farmers can't access farm is a chronic Iie.

the problem with people like you is that you feign ignorance about security of farmers. Is it to difficult for you to believe that farmers especially those who plant yams can't access their farms? Why did you skip that in the gibberish you just wrote?

Now, this is the problem I have with the North...

They're the ones causing the hardship and the same people crying about hardship.

We've been reading about Boko Haram demanding outrageous amounts of money from these poor farmers before giving them access to their farms.... The farmers in turn, will increase the price of the produce to meet up with the demands of the terrorist.

The politicians in the North that are using these terrorist to play politics are the same people speaking up against the current adminstration.

I'm not a supporter of Tinubu... But, recall when GEJ used force on Boko Haram and how lots of their kingsmen came out to threaten GEJ. Elrufai in particular threatened to retaliate.

Be letting them deceive you. I'm with farmers and know all their extornist behaviors you don't know. Continue to fall like mugu
Well... u should remember your secondary school economics that says the lower the supply or higher d demand, the higher the price! It's human behavior..
This is what makes crude oil price fluctuates -- change in demand & supply...
For this yam situation, apart from insecurity expense, the supply has greatly reduced cos of lower number of farmers going to the farm cos of fulani bandits.. a reasonable govt solution to the problem should be to decisively deal with the banditry.. very straightforward a thing. When there is adequate supply, there won't be opportunity for any seller to increase price abnormally.

Funny guy.
When he sells yam at 1k, how then will he buy rice, tomatoes etc, pay his kid school fees or even buy not a car, but a motorcycle that cost over 1m. OK, he will sell 1000 tubers at 1k each Abi.
How will he buy diesel or petrol, enter transport or take his yam to the market for sale?
Oga, there is inflation, he has increased running cost and has to increase his prices to match inflation to enable him fund himself.

In as much as this 10k per yam in the north sounds exaggerating, i have seen 6k own.

Before APC came into power when I was in Minna the Niger state capital, I do buy 5pcs (set) of yam for #300-#800 max.

When I was in Abuja 2017, my sister told me she bought a tuber for #700 and I said she wanted to do me 419. I never imagined a tuber of yam would get to 1k let alone above 5k. All thanks to APC.
My brother I priced yam today, the aboki get mind tell me 8,5k for just 1 yam oo

Backyard farming is the solution.

You farm yams, beans, rice, pepper, tomatoes and also the pot too.

Can you blame them?? Are the buyers facing the security risk?

My dear Northerners I urge u all to rise and protest. This is the only opportunity u have to get it right.

Buhari was the messiah we had, now shatan is bound to destroy ur lives and generations through Tinubu.

Northerners Arise!
I stopped reading this gibberish at 'Buhari was the Messiah'....

Why should I buy yam for 10k when I can use 8k to buy one carton of indomie?

Na who yam help.

Again I will say we have been living a subsidized life all along. It's not that things are so expensive, it's purchasing power that is low. Imagine if the least Nigerian worker or biz man or woman earns at least 200k or imagine our exchange rate is 150 Naira to 1USD?

I always compare the cost of food items between what I buy here and the ones my wife buys in Canada. The major difference is purchasing power.

Nigerians are on of the least paid workers globally and the pointer is to the weakness of our currency which is a factor of our import to export ratio.

Let us give Tinubu some time even though I am a proud Obedient.

True talk. I remember when came to Mokwa for a family member wedding I gave my sister some money to buy yam for me to carry back to my base in Owerri she shouted that the money is to much after much persuasion she collected 2000 after few hours she returned with two barrow pushers each carrying one sack full of yam tubers with some change from which she paid the barrow pushers. This was during Yar'adua term.
I saw a video yesterday the lady was pricing yam and the seller said 1000/tuber I didn't believe it and now this. If a tuber cost that much in the north then no hope.
