Amid heavy gridlock, motorists and commuters in Lagos lamented over the sudden scarcity of fuel, popularly called petrol.

This has resulted in transport fares increase by commercial bus drivers — danfos and koropes — within the city.

Consequently, fuel queues have resurfaced with most filling stations shut, as motorists struggle with the skyrocketing fuel prices. It has gone as high as N850 in some filling stations.

This is coming barely six days to the commencement of the planned nationwide protest over economic challenges.

By last Friday, yesterday, fuel queues had started to get longer within the metropolis, with few fuel stations dispensing.

N950 per litre
On Saturday, besides Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPCL Limited Ltd.-branded fuel stations selling at N650 per litre, other independent marketers are selling between N850 to N950.

It was discovered that many filling stations which seemed to have run out of stocks, were seen under lock and key.

Others shut their gates against motorists and other users of petroleum products who were hoping to get some.

With those stations selling the product to buyers, there were long queues as panic buying continued. This resulted in gridlock along the roads where filling stations were dispensing.

Men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authorities, LASTMA, deployed seemed overwhelmed as they could not effectively contain the high influx of motorists searching for the product.

… enter black marketers
As a result, black marketers have taken advantage of the situation. They were selling the product to desperate motorists at exorbitant rates of up to ₦1,000 to ₦1,400 per litre.

Black market dealers were seen hawking the product at Egbeda, Ikotun, LASU-Iba Road, Ikeja, Agege, among others.

A danfo driver, simply identified Mr.Jude Akpan, who spoke to Vanguard, lamented that he spends twice the usual amount on fuel to fill his vehicle for one trip.

“So he has passed the cost on to passengers.

“I bought N850 per litre from a filling station this morning after several hours in the long queue.

“I bought 20 litres for N17,000, which can hardly take me two trips from Ikotun to Oshodi.”

Investigation showed that Ikotun to Egbeda, which used to be N200, is now N500, while Iyana-Ipaja is N700, depending on the bargaining power of passengers.

Also, vehicle owners and other fuel users lamented the scarcity. They said it could worsen in the coming weeks if authorities did not address the cause of the shortage.

Omo, the fuel scarcity is really annoying and time consuming....

This country is really cursed...

How can you have natural oil yet you can't power your house or have enough gas to drive around....

How can you be surrounded with rivers and you can't build dams to have constant energy?

How can you have a population of 200m, enough create massive tax and generate revenue, yet the country is without good roads....

This country doesn't deserve a peaceful protest, but a brutal protest that should claim these politician's lives....

The suffering is enough... These people begged for good governance in 2012, Nigerians gave them power in 2015 and till date, they're still clueless....

Note: I advocated for state protest and not centered protest where damages will mainly affect properties and not the politicians.

Tinubu said Buhari destroyed the economy and it was his turn to destroy, what do you expect?

They said back then the country will be ok when we said 200 to a dollar wasn't right but here we are having it at 1650

I pity some people, though they don't have pity on themselves

When Tinubu made that thoughtless "subsidy is gone" statement right on his swearing-in podium, sane Nigerians warned that the Tinubu regime would turned out the worst regime in the history of this country.

But his supporters would call those sane Nigerians bitter losers and other derogatory names. They said that Tinubu made a bold decision and very soon Nigerians would reap its benefits. We were told a whole lot of lies one of which is that money will be saved from subsidy removal, and our refinery will begin to work—in fact, they gave some deadlines. And the deadlines kept shifting as time went by.

One year after the removal of fuel subsidies, Nigerians are yet to be told how much has been saved so far—the money saved so far what is being used for.

One year after removing subsidies, our refineries are yet to refine a drop of fuel.

One year after removing subsidies, the price of fuel kept increasing with its attendant scarcity, leading to an increase in the prices of goods and services.

Right now, Tinubu have run out of excuses and is now asking to be given some more time.

Of course, more time to continue to dish out calamitous economic policies that will continue to improverish the people.

It shall never be well with those who worked, supported, and encouraged this calamitous Tinubu regime.

More than a week we don't have fuel.

When budgeting next month, remember to include surprise fuel scarcity. I heard marketers would soon go on strike.

What fuel subsidy removal supposes to abate is rather aggravating then what is the need for its removal?Pump price keeps increasing.Fuel scarcity keeps resurfacing? The gains from fuel subsidy removal are only being monopolized by those in power while they (so-called leaders) continue to appeal to people to wait patiently for positive changes that are becoming farfetched each passing day.

Petrol is meant to be #1650 minimum
We are wasting money for serious things on subsidy

Sad thing is poor people have zero business with petrol, only rich n middle class use petrol

Poor people use kerosene that is not subsidized
Move their goods with diesel that's not subsidized

Heaven knows if u am president I would not only Remove subsidy but petrol would have a VAT of 15% enough of this foolishness

The protest supposed start before August 1

Tinubu and his goons have blending facility in Malta, that's why he removed subsidy in his first day in office.

The facilities get fuel cheaply from Nigeria thru NNPC, refine and blend the fuel and, distribute to other countries including nigeria At a very expensive cost, while subsidy is paid for.

This means tinubu is paying himself subsidy, using the crooked NNPC to make this possible, yet some bastardsss dare threaten protesters
Nonsense and ApC
