And that is why a foodstuff seller who bought a tuber of yam at benue for 1200naira decided to sell the same tuber of yam for 5000naira in lagos ?? 400% profit on just one tuber of yam?? Smh...

The funny thing is that those will bring all these things from the farm do not even claim it is fulani herdsmen or whatever that caused it..the excuse they all keep giving is that it is cost of transportation to other places that are making it expensive..and you begin to wonder if it is only a single tuber of yam that they will transport at once that made them to want to gain 400% on just a tuber of yam yet the same set of people will say government is selfish , heartless and greedy..meanwhile you are a citizen are doing exactly the same behaviour displayed by your government..you as a citizen is greedy too..because how will someone buy a yam for 1200 and sell for 5k..and claim it is transport that caused it ...is he or she buying their own fuel at 10000naira per litre ?? Or those that decided to sell that same yam for 2k in lagos are not transporting too Or they do not like money too?? Smh.. it is well

Thank you O. Of which big yams in the rurals is 3000 Naira when buying in one or two, imagine large scale buyers can get it at 2,500 and even lesser, and can load a bus with up to 50,000 if possible, but once it reaches the city, problem. I have been eating yams all through this year and have never spent more than 2,000 Naira per piece of medium sized yams btw

"Farmers can't access farms" is a chronic Iie.
In Benue where herdsmen àttàck people in the bush, they still go to farm everyday, Benue is the largest yam producer in Nigeria.
U can say farm supplements are expensive leading to high price but farmers can't access farm is a chronic Iie.

It's not a lie!

I have friends in Benue who confirmed that though it's reducing now

Oh, its now the 'locals' who are responsible for the theft of large volumes of rice and maize from farms.

Pathetic.

Give us a list of the settlements that armed pastoralists have taken over.

You are the one saying people can't access their farms, show us videos of the location where farmers can't access their farms, u are saying something, I have been telling you to back it with evidence and u turn around to say I should provide evidence, I should provide evidence for you that farmers can't access their farms?

^^^
This is not a difficult matter.

I say some communities are a no go area. I cannot provide videos of these communities because I do not have a squadron of armed security at my disposal 24/7. I cannot go to those communities and begin to record videos without getting a hostile reaction.

You on the other hand say all the communities are accessible and there are zero problems. I have given you a simple challenge - since you say there are no problems, then you can provide the video proof of the peace and tranquility that you say exists throughout Benue. I gave you 2 LGs to start with. Its not that hard.

I am still waiting for your videos from Gwer East and Gwer West.

Anyone with common sense should even know that is obviously a lie..they cannot access farms yet the crops were cultivated from where ?? From heaven ?? They are always blaming government for everything or trying to politicize everything

Bros, if you don't know how this happens you will dismiss it as lies.

There's no doubt insecurity has greatly affected food production.

In the core north, some of them still 'access' their farms only after or on paying huge amounts to bandits and terrorists. In the north central, farmers herders clashes and other insecurity issues have reduced the level of production of agricultural products.
Where I stay, the little farms we manage to cultivate are called 'community service.' you know why? You will work but another will harvest because of hunger and insecurity and this discourage people alot.

Bottom line is that there is a reduction in the production of farm produce in Nigeria today

I am a farmer too, and I am living in Bayelsa state. Trust me, security of farmers and their crops are the number one problem. Even as a man these days, I am frightened when I see another man or woman passing through my farm when I am working on it. Once I notice anyone coming, I will wait until the person pass the farm. If it is an unknown face, I will be very cautious for the rest of that day, because there have been stories of killings and attempted murders of people on their farmlands, sometimes by yahoo ritualists and also criminals.
There is also the constant stealing of farm produces. Just last week, one woman was caught in my area for stealing someone's cassava. Several instances of theives, both men and women, have been caught and publicly disgraced for harvesting people's crops. Farmers in my place can't harvest mature plantains again because of theives. They don't wait until it is fully mature, because if you do, thieves will just go and cut it. These cases were not rampant until recent years. All these contribute to the cost of foodstuffs.

Thank you. I had said same thing

he doesn't know that nobody farms in kaduna anymore, all the farming villages has either been completely ravaged or totally emptied, its the most determined farmers that goes to the bush to do the real farming in commercial quantity, even as at that, you will pay bandits through your nose to allow you access to your farm and to allow you farm in peace, nobody takes yams to kaduna to go and sell, no route to kaduna is safe, even if you make it through, the amount of money you drop at every check point, is enough to pust your cost price per yam to 6k, talkless of when middle men add thier own margin. So this your guy doesn't know what he is talking about, if it is in other states like taraba or nassarawa I will agree with him, but not in KD.

You can keep arguing pointlessly here about something that's as clear as day. Sooner or later, there will be (sadly) more violence visited upon farmers by these rogue herders - let's hear what your defence will be then.

This is my last response to you on this.

You asked the right question as someone with common sense, so provide us with the numbers.
Societies work with what they can prove, Nigerians work with assumptions and stories but want to be like those societies.
Provide us with the numbers before we talk about other factors.
I started my farming project in 2012, I have been added to the number of farmers, I have farms in different locations and looking to increase my farming scope to a multinational farm that covers different crops in different states, it's not only me, I know alot of young goons that have ventured into agriculture in the last 10 years, but u are here saying farmers are reducing since 2007.

Yam seedling costs 400 Naira max. So, why should yams sell so costly ?

A plot can accomodate 600 tubers and would only need some table spoons of NPK fron start till harvest, so why the expensive price. Most Nigerians thesedays heartlessly and indiscrimately increases the orice of their products to take advantage of their fellow human beings. Thieves

I'm a farmer. No farmer purchases lands. I also know the amount involved. I have been actively involved in farming for five years straight. I know the profit margin involved. Do you know any of these things ? Go and sit down
