A wave of discontent is smashing across social media as Nigerian youths express their outrage over the BBNaija season 9 premiere, which is scheduled to coincide almost precisely with the highly anticipated nationwide protest against economic hardship.

The #EndBadGovernance protest, which will take place from August 1 to August 10, 2024, intends to solve the nation’s terrible hunger and high inflation.

Meanwhile, the new season of BBNaija will make its debut on Sunday, July 28, 2024, and will last 10 weeks, with the grand finale airing on October 6, 2024.

The coincidence of these two significant events has sparked a fierce criticism among netizens, who claim that the show’s scheduling is an unacceptable distraction from the pressing socioeconomic challenges at hand.

Kingsley Thompson, a prominent human rights advocate known on X as @Jkings, has strongly attacked the scheduling of the BBNaija debut.

He contends that the show’s debut at a key time for national movement reveals a troubling misalignment of priorities among the youth.

Thompson, speaking for many who share his view, is calling for the suspension of the reality TV show this year. He maintains that, given the gravity of the current economic crisis, the nation’s focus should concentrate focused on demanding change, not on fleeting enjoyment.

His words;

“Bringing BBN at this critical time in our country shows how we misplaced priorities.,

“I speak for all Nigerians that BBN should suspend their show this year, we don’t want it.”

Others have strongly supported his call for BBNaija’s suspension, hurling harsh attacks on the organizers. They accuse them of purposely diverting the youth’s attention away from important concerns.

He is right about the government sponsoring BBNaija. Apart from the tribalism card, entertainment is also a card up their sleeves.

They know foreign and local sponsors are engineering jobless and lazy youths on social media most especially on X, so they've decided to provide drama via bbnaija to distract these jobless youths.

You see, these youths are really jobless and completely lazy. Some call themselves influencers but in reality, all they do is exist in life by gossiping about useless drama, retweeting and distributing useless garbage as content online for likes and interactions.

With bbnaija starting soon, these lazy and jobless youths will be paid by sponsors to trend useless drama about a group of youths that eat, shit, gossip, scheme and b.leep each other in a house for months. grin

When they spread this drama online, more Nigerians (most especially lazy people) will be tempted to view it and forget about hunger and suffering. Very strange but it's the truth. grin

Its a tactic that works in every generation. The Roman leaders built the colosseum...

...to distract the starving citizens. Everyday the citizens (men, women and children) would wake up, go to the colosseum and watch gladiators and captured slaves tear each other to pieces. They completely forgot about their problems. That's the power of debasing drama and entertainment and the government knows this. cheesy

Some of these so called activists talk like people who are brainless undecided

So they expect a legitimate business organisation to suspend part of its business activities so as to pander to the whims of faceless protest organisers

Security of tenure is all about government plans to scuttle the planned protest; not for security of citizens and their properties.

For the past 5 years at least, BB Naija has premiered sometime in July.

It has nothing to do with the protest.
