The Federal Government has said there is no longer a need for the planned nationwide hunger protests scheduled for August 1 to 10, 2024. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said this while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday presided over by President Bola Tinubu. Idris stated that the government is already addressing some of the demands made by aggrieved Nigerians, and making efforts to make sure that food is made available. He said, “Many of the issues that those planning the protest are putting forward are being addressed. The government is making efforts to make sure that food is made available. “Rice has been taken to various centres across the country, and it is being sold for N40,000. This is just the beginning and necessary first step. Other efforts are underway. “There is so much investment that is going into the agricultural sector and we believe that as we move forward, the price of food will come down.” The minister said the president believes that the government is answering the questions being asked by the youths He added, “The student loan is making sure that no youth that wants to go to school will be left out. By the time the CNG takes full course, the transportation issues will be resolved.” https://punchng.com/theres-no-more-need-for-planned-hunger-protests-fg/ |

Okay... But the protesters still want to. Your "advice" is not needed. Only the protesters can decide whether there's a need to go on or not not the ones fleecing Nigerians 4 Likes 1 Share |

So the federal government thinks hunger protests are no longer needed? Meanwhile, people are still struggling to feed their families. This is just another way to silence the voice of the people while they continue to enjoy their lavish lifestyle. 2 Likes |

Holygram These people are so short sighted Nigeria is not at war so all these go & get free rice, we have setup centres to buy cheap rice etc are kindergarten approach Fix the economy Right from day 1, I personally condemned removal of fuel subsidy & floating of naira at the same time without putting proper measures in place We don't have a functional refinery still fuel subsidy got removed just like that Let the federal government seek the help of those who understand how to run successful economy instead of these politicians dishing out irrelevant advises that are of not importance Some days ago, we read how some people rebag free rice to be sold Rice is not the problem of Nigerians, fix the dying economy 1 Like |

They are not feeling the heat so I am not surprised with this comment of theirs. An import based economy, you decided to float the currency, remove fuel subsidy, the only benefit to Nigeria and unable to fix insecurity issue ravaging the country for more than a decade. The ripple effect is what we are seeing now. The protest can’t stop. People are terribly hungry and frustrated 1 Like |

Lol, the Federal Government just dey play with our intelligence. They think saying there's no need for hunger protests will make the hunger disappear. As if people no dey feel the heat of the hardship every day. This na classic case of trying to silence the voice of the people. Who dem think say they be? Na the same way dem tried to dismiss the #EndSARS protests, but we all saw how that one turn out. The truth be say, no matter how dem twist and turn, the people go always find a way to voice their frustrations. Protests might not be on the table now, but the anger is still bubbling under the surface. FG fit think say dem don win this round, but na lie. When hunger and suffering reach a boiling point, no amount of government rhetoric go fit stop the people from rising up again. 4 Likes |

Abeg, make we hear word. Hunger protest no go solve anything. Na just wahala dem go bring. People wey dey plan am just wan use am to catch cruise. Better make dem focus on how to improve things instead of creating more problems for everybody. Hunger no be joke, but protest no be the answer. 1 Like |

Finally, some sense from the FG! It’s about time we focus on constructive dialogue rather than protests. Let’s channel our energy into solutions that uplift everyone. 1 Like |
