Why are we quick to blame the Ooni for the global issues we all face? Hardship is indeed a worldwide challenge, and instead of pointing fingers, we should support our leaders in finding solutions. The Ooni is speaking truth, let's focus on unity and progress instead of spreading negativity. We need to be patient and constructive, not just critical! 22 Likes 1 Share |

treesun: Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has taken a troubling stance by appealing to the youth to delay their planned #EndBadGovernance protests and granting the Federal Government more time to address the nation’s economic woes. This plea, made amidst a worsening economic crisis and soaring inflation, reflects a disappointing drift from the traditional role of kings as protectors and advocates for their people. Once revered as custodians of justice and defenders of their people’s welfare, the Ooni’s current position reveals a stark departure from these principles. Instead of standing firmly with his constituents in their struggle against the relentless economic pressures and mismanagement by the government, the Ooni seems to have aligned himself with those in power. This alignment, marked by an appeal for patience with the administration, smacks of compromise and a troubling inclination towards maintaining a favorable relationship with those in authority. The Ooni’s recent comments minimize the severe hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, framing the crisis as merely a “global phenomenon” rather than acknowledging the specific failures and reckless policies of the current administration. By urging the youth to hold off their protests, he appears to trivialize their legitimate grievances and the very real suffering they endure daily. This is a disheartening contrast to the strong, principled stands that past monarchs have taken, where they would boldly confront and challenge any ruler who inflicted suffering on their people. Historically, traditional rulers like the Ooni of Ife were known for their courage and resolve in standing against injustices and advocating for the welfare of their subjects. They would not hesitate to confront those who caused harm and distress to their communities. Sadly, it seems the Ooni has now become a figure who seeks to placate those in power, possibly influenced by financial incentives or other benefits, rather than championing the cause of his people. This approach not only undermines the very essence of traditional leadership but also contributes to the disillusionment of the populace, who see their leaders not as defenders but as collaborators with those who perpetuate their suffering. The Ooni’s shift towards defending the status quo and downplaying the urgent need for accountability reflects a grievous departure from the revered role of kingship. It is a disappointing betrayal of the principles that should guide traditional leadership in Nigeria, leaving the people to question the true commitment of their monarchs to justice and the common good. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Hmmm... My concerns are: 1. We're angry at the government, but let's not destroy the few amenities and infrastructure we have. We don't have enough as it is, and we can't ask for new ones if we destroy the few we already have. 2. Mr. Jide, Mallam Haruna, and Mr. Chinonso will suffer more if their means of livelihood are looted during the protest. They are not the government we are angry at. 3. Hoodlums will seize this opportunity to loot. Do I want the protest? Yes. Do I want the above to happen? No. Will it happen? Most likely. 4 Likes |
