it is not delusional to set high standards..

some Nigerians always set high standards for themselves and their children so its normal to think other Nigerians think like the high standard setting Nigerians...

will you call Nigerians like Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, the basketball teams, the relay team e.t.c.. for believing they can win any competition

Yes it is delusional. Delusion can be good sometimes, it's only bad when you begin to ignore reality. My expectations going into this competition was that we were going to come out of the group and medal. Even after we lost the first 2 games, I still expected us to beat Japan by at least 2 goals. It however doesn't mean that I can't be pragmatic when doing a postmortem on why things didn't pan out well.

Before this competition began or before we kicked a ball, I've always said we have a personnel problem. We were also always the least favourite to leave the group. We also had shoddy preparation. Only those detached from reality won't. acknowledge this.

The examples you cited even helps make my point. First you identified athletes who participate in individual sports. That's totally different from team sports. Also, all of these athletes save Tobi are yet to win anything at the world stage. Even Tobi is yet to medal at the Olympics. Her first significant medal was the World Championship and she's been struggling lately to get back to that form. Mind you, they achieved all of this because they can easily leverage on coaches and facilitate available to them in the US. Again it's individual sports.

Our basketball team are African champions and are yet to achieve anything at the World stage. Why do you think our win against Australia trended? It's because no one, not even the players expected us to win. That's our first win in 20 years. We almost always lose to teams at the world stage, again giving credence to my point.

I'm curious tho how do they select these group stuff... because you can't put 3 out of top ten ranked team in the world in one group....
There should be some stability like top ranked, middle ranked and even low sef...

Doesn't make any sense to me...

Only 12 teams are participating in the tourney with most of the teams being best in the world. You are more likely to land in a difficult group than you aren't.

No Matter what the stupid NFF's have done ( I know, those Nincompoops are the worse ) Randy has to go. This is his level, his ceiling..... He can't move us any further than this.... The only other trajectory from here on is downwards. He has taken US to 3 Tournaments now including some friendlies and qualifiers and
1. We still don't have any pattern of play with the ball.
2. Wrong and terrible Subs every game
3. Players not improving ( Okay maybe Deborah )
4. Even our defensive plays have no pattern in them....Just Individuals diving into tackles and putting their bodies on the line.
5. Wrong/Unbalanced Team Selections every time.
6. Nepotism left, right, center
7. Any form of Attacking Play seem to have retired or relocated away from the team...
Bro... I pointed all these out during his fight against those media people. I said that he has nothing to offer us. Everybody here were referencing that win against Australia in the last world cup. The team doesn't look well coached but na players we dey blame.

That defence had Ashleigh Plumptre not a shambolic Okeke, and the Alozie we had back then is not the one we have now (this one is damn too sluggish and clueless).
1. Normally, Alozie was converted to RB. She is a winger.

2. Alozie is not sluggish and clueless

3. It is the duty of your coach to source for proper cover in defence.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 10:03pm On Jul 31
Some journalists are now suggesting that Ofili’s name was removed from the list of 100m runners at the last minute because AFN officials needed her fresh for (potentially) the two 4x100m relay races, and the 200m. They believe that she has brighter prospects of winning a medal in the 200m than in 100m discipline.

So, in essence, what the AFN and NOC are saying is that Ofili doesn’t have the stamina to run in 10 races (4 rounds, each, in the 100m and 200m, and 2 rounds in the 4x100m discipline)

Either way, she should have been consulted and informed of the change, rather than finding out a day to the start of the athletics event. Smh

Then go pick whosoever you think is better to replace her on the team. Do you think there are better options somewhere and she wasn’t picked?

8 goals in the Olympics. Its a shame. The super eagles is far far better than the super falcons even tho the former might be disappointing most times

she should go and sit down. They lack confidence among themselves. They play abroad and they cannot distribute accurate passes between themselves

Randy Waldrum under fire after controversial remarks on Nigeria’s Olympic exit

August 1, 2024
By Samuel Ahmadu in France

Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Japan, Nigeria head coach Randy Waldrum is now at the receiving end with his controversial comments about the level of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

A 3-1 first half humiliation saw the Super Falcons dream of advancing to the knockout stage faded away at the Stade de La Beaujiore in Nantes on Wednesday.

Waldrum’s remarks have sparked backlash and further compounded the frustrations surrounding Nigeria’s early exit from the tournament.

“People have to understand that the Olympics is not playing Tanzania or Equatorial Guinea where goals are just going to come. It is not like playing Cape Verde,” Waldrum stated. “Brazil, Spain, and Japan are top teams in the world, and our margin of error is slim. The players gave their all against these teams, and I am proud of the team.”

The comments have been perceived as dismissive towards African nations like Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, and Cape Verde, raising questions about Waldrum’s respect for other teams within the continent. Critics argue that such statements undermine the progress and competitiveness of African football.

Nigeria’s Olympic campaign has been a major disappointment, marked by three consecutive losses to Brazil, Spain, and Japan, conceding five goals in those encounters. The team’s return to the global multisport event after a 16-year hiatus ended in frustration, as they failed to secure a single win.

Waldrum’s controversial remarks have added to the scrutiny he faces, with many questioning his ability to lead the team to future success. Fans and analysts alike are calling for introspection and a more respectful approach towards all teams, regardless of their perceived strength. As Nigeria reflects on a forgettable Olympic campaign, the focus now shifts to rebuilding and addressing the issues that led to their early exit. Waldrum’s leadership and the team’s strategy will undoubtedly be under the microscope as they prepare for future competitions.

Randy and excuses sha..
A team can still play well and lose and we will say they tried at least.

The team I watched in the Olympics look like one without a coach. Let's not even start talking about his questionable substitutions.
