Some indigenes have asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to clarify details of the Lekki Free Trade Zone land sold to Aliko Dangote, owner of the Dangote Refinery.

Some indigenes have asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to clarify details of the Lekki Free Trade Zone land sold to Aliko Dangote, owner of the Dangote Refinery.

The oil mogul had, during a visit by the leadership of the House of Representatives on July 21, revealed he paid $100 million to acquire the about 7,000 acres of land to build his $20 billion refinery, contrary to claims that it was offered freely to him as an incentive or was a subsidised allocation.

Under the aegis of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, the indigenes, in a letter signed by its president, Adelani Adeniji-Adele, and the secretary general, said they were “bewildered on why the notice of the purchase was not brought to the attention of government and how the money was expended without the members of the public being carried along or benefiting from it, particularly the host communities in Ibeju-Lekki.”

“On the basis of the foregoing, we hereby demand information of the allegation and detailed information on how the money was expended and the account that was used to receive the money,” said the group.

The group added, “Sir, Section 4 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, provides that, where information is applied for under this Act, the public institution to which the application is made shall, subject to sections 6,7 and 8 of this Act, within (7) days, after the application is received, make the information available to the Applicant.”

“Section 4 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, provides as follows: (1) Where the government or public institution fails to give access to a record or information applied for under this Act that it relates to and that the applicant has a right to challenge the decision refusing access and have it reviewed by a court.”

The group threatened to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the matter or seek an order of Mandamus in court against Mr Sanwo-Olu’s government did not respond within seven days.

This is serious. Honestly that land is huge It extends from Idasho community to Okunraye community. It is 30 minutes drive with a speed of 100km/h.

It still baffles me why a refinery is only producing diesel whereas a normal refinery using fractional distillation should produce flammable Gas, PMS, Aviation fuel, kerosene, Diesel and others.

Something is fishy. I just hope is not another portharcourt or kaduna refinery in display. Time will tell but to me the time is now. Danger danger danger. 22billion dollars waste is not moi moi.

And this is why they’re prepared to sink to the lowest depths of illegality, criminality, intimidation and xenophobia to ensure they maintain their stranglehold on Lagos state politics and governance! And they’re not gonna loose any sleep over the little matter of elections! As far as they’re concerned, true democracy and credible elections are for pussies! shocked

So someone pocketed over 100 billion naira and cleaned mouth? How many of such similar deals have been sealed and they cleaned mouth?

If not that Dangote wanted to expose their asses, would we have known this?

I knew once they pushed Dangote to speak, this would follow - land owners would begin to ask questions.

They should face their state government and leave Dangote alone. Nothing should happen to that refinery.

The most useless state with useless leadership is that of Ogun state that allowed this project to escape their state because of political ineptitude.

This is a classic case of misdirection.

Why are we focusing on the details of Dangote's land purchase when the real issue is the monumental investment he’s bringing to the country?

The man is putting his money where his mouth is, creating jobs and boosting our economy. Instead of stirring the pot with allegations, let’s celebrate the fact that Dangote is willing to invest in Nigeria’s future.

The noise from the indigenes should be more about how to leverage this investment for the betterment of the community, rather than questioning the transaction itself.

Let’s not forget, transparency is key, but we should also appreciate the bigger picture here. The refinery will benefit everyone in the long run, so let's channel our energies towards supporting this initiative rather than pulling it apart.

Ogun state has the potential to be in same level with Lagos in terms of development, by taking advantage of it's close proximity to Lagos state.
The state has direct access to Atlantic ocean.
Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria and yet they want to choke with investment. I still wondering how the state is coping with massive settlers coming in from various part of the country?
Some states will be fighting for such opportunity that don't come easily especially in this part of Africa.

The indigenes have every right to seek clarity. Transparency is key in such significant transactions, especially when it involves the future of our communities. Let's hope the governor responds swiftly for the benefit of all.
