Protesters Hold Sunday Service in Street of Jos Despite Presidential Address by Gistmedia10: 2:50pm On Aug 04
On August 4, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation in response to the ongoing nationwide protests tagged "End Bad Governance in Nigeria." In his speech, the president acknowledged the grievances of the Nigerian people, calling for patience and assuring them that their concerns were being addressed. Tinubu highlighted efforts to address economic reforms and emphasizing that the current hardships were necessary for long-term growth and stability.

However, the president's assurances failed to appease many Nigerians, particularly in Jos, where protesters were seen conducting a Sunday church service in the streets. This act of defiance underscores the deep dissatisfaction with the government's response, particularly regarding high fuel prices and perceived bad governance. Activists and social media commentators, like VeryDarkBlackMan, have criticized the president's speech, stating it did not provide tangible solutions or hope for the average Nigerian.

The protests, which began on August 1 and are scheduled to continue until August 10, reflect widespread frustration over the rising cost of living, forex rates, and economic policies. Despite the president's call for calm, the protesters remain adamant, demanding immediate and significant changes to improve their living conditions and governance standards

If they can direct their energy towards reclaiming their land from invaders and protect their indigenes against killers as they are doing now they will not be where they are now. They are only good at drinking burukutu.

These protesters are just looking for attention, thinking they can disrupt peace with their street theatrics. They should respect the presidential address and understand that their actions won't change anything.

He said the people should leave the street and come for dialogue... so that he can drag and bribe them the same way they did to Labour to accept a $40/month minimum wage.. down from $65/month it stood at May 23

Good governance is not negotiated over a dialogue, doing the right thing is not negotiated over a dialogue, stopping corruption and stealing of Government fund is not negotiated over a dialogue, cutting down government expenditure does not need dialogue, allowing the refineries to work does not need dialogue..

It is the height of wickedness to subject an already downtrodden multidimensionally poor people to even more hardship, then leave them to their fate to get used to the hardships... millions of families go to bed hungry because of rising cost of food, people can no longer afford medicines to take care of their health, esp those that take continous medications.. companies close down on a daily basis and people lose their source of income. I was moved to tears one day when I witnessed a former sales attendants at Shoprite, Novare Mall Wuse Zone 5 expressing his hopelessness going forward the day the supermarket closed down sometimes in June this year. They closed down due to harsh economic environment. Every other adjoining shops in that Mall would be forced to also close because most of them rely on the customers coming to Shoprite for patronage. That would cost more jobs still.

You don't run a country by stubbornness. A good leader shows empathy when it is needed and do the needful to alleviate the suffering of citizens now.. promising them a better tomorrow while they die of starvation and ill heath today is sheer arrogance and wickedness.

No sane human or government would go and buy a Private jet for the Presidential fleet while workers' pay can't transport them to and from work for one month.

The exchange rate is the single biggest evil eating up the economy right now.. at close to N1700/$, if the man that caused it to rise astronomically to that point in one year refused to do something concrete about it, then posterity would judge according..

The innocent Nigerian masses don't deserve this..

PBAT empty speech added fire to the petrol, PBAT speech was only defensive, apologetic and lack effectiveness. If PBAT had presented short term solution in his speech just like Ruto did nobody will be protesting by now. He could have taken some of this proactive actions.
1 promise to prosecute trigger happy security men
2 immediate compensation and treatment of wounded protesters and security men
3 The FG should give grants to staple food importer with a compulsory regulatory profit margin of at most 3% profit per bag of rice or beans. And the FG should publish the unified price of comondities on all media like it's done in the time of Awolowo
4 Finally NNPCL management should all be suspended immediately, and make sure that Dangote start buying crude in Naira from NNPCL and sell to Nigerians within 400-500 NGN within a few weeks
5 And in the long-run give a quota of 40% crude to IOC or dey leave just like Gaddafi did in Libya

That’s great. Massive protests will be recorded in this week again. I only pity Tinubu government for not reducing the price of fuel.
