Ogun Electric Bike Owners To Pay ₦‎2,500 For Charging Per Day by kingjayzeelan07: 3:22am On Aug 05
The Ogun State government said, on Sunday, it had put in place charging points for the 2,000 electric bikes and tricycles launched last week under the state’s E-Mobility pilot programme.

Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Kayode Akinmade, who spoke to The PUNCH on Sunday, said three charging points had been put in place in Abeokuta, the state capital, adding that users would pay N2,500 to charge their batteries.

Akinmade said the users of these e-bikes can have their batteries charged or swapped within three locations across the Abeokuta metropolis.

The media aide said the pilot programme started in Abeokuta while other parts of the state would later come on board

He said, “For now, the charging points for the e-bikes are only available in Abeokuta. There is one very close to the MKO Abiola International Stadium; there is one at Panseke and at Oke-Sokori. These stations are connected to uninterrupted Independent Power Plant and so the issue of epileptic power supply has been taken care of."

The users of these e-bikes will also be paying N2,500 for the charging of their batteries, which could last for a day. This is relatively cheap when compared to what they will be spending if they are to buy fuel.”

The state government had last week flagged off E-Mobility initiative, with about 2,000 electric motorcycles and tricycles unveiled.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, during the launch, said the initiative would reduce the cost of transportation in the state while also ensuring a cleaner environment by reducing carbon emissions.

The governor said the the initiative showed the commitment of his administration to mitigating the impact of the subsidy removal and the high cost of fuel while reducing transportation costs for our citizens.

He said, “We will be releasing about 2,000 e-bikes in the first phase. These commercial motorbikes can ride up to 75-80 kilometres on a full charge, and the vehicles can travel up to 200 kilometres, thus reducing transportation costs by 40 per cent."

We aim to reduce our carbon footprint and bring about a significant change in how we think about transportation in our daily lives. This aligns with our energy transformation programme for a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.”

The users should calculate which will be cheaper between petrol and this 2,500/charge.

I think 2,500 per charge is a lot. 500 to 750 would have been ok since it is a bike

NB: for those saying you can charge at home, this thread is about paying 2500 for charging in a charging station.

I can't believe someone would comment "good initiative" to this considering the economic mishap the country and citizens are currently embroiled in.

Imagine having to pay #2,500 per charge that'd last a day multiplied by 20 days.

I'm just so short of words to describe the kind of humans we have in every elective and appointed offices in this British company.

Always trying to take a sprint before properly learning to crawl when it comes to exploitative policies but when it is policies to alleviate the pains of the citizens, they become dumb.

In the climes promoting EVs and green energies, the citizens are continously encouraged by way of tax cuts to embrace alternative energies and charging stations are strategically situated all around and for the most part for free or at most at hugely discounted rates.

How much petrol would they use in day?
I guess u are the type that would want it free then cry it's not well maintained

The idea of Africans is weird theh believe government should get money from anywheee and make their life better instead of contributing money to government as tax to make their life better

Ogun have a population of 7 million, Nigerian GDP per capita is 1.6 million yearly

200k tax on average individuals per year
Gives you 1.4 trillion that's the minimum amount Ogun us supposed to get from tax

There is no how u pay that money n elect idiots
There is no how a good person ruled for 8 years with that money that u won't get great value for your money

Government run on tax... That's how it's done

You pay tax and government provide value for your tax because it's cheaper paying Tax than providing it yourself

If you don't get value for tax u vote them out

But here they get little change from oil n don't tax people

I just tire for them

And in addition, the one that pains me the most is the bizzare habit of our politifcians diabolically packing and looting money 💰 from the various treasuries in a crude, maniacal brazen manner. I don't know if it only Nigeria this abomination happens, that former British pm had to call them fantastically corrupt or Okonjo-Iweala whose life was threatened for saving Nigeria $3.6bn from ghost workers, oil subsidy scam, and whose mother was kidnapped.

A 40% reduction in fuel costs will translate to about #350 per litre. This is the target pump price of some analysts. So it doesn't return life to what it used to be.

There is no way a charge will last for just a day, except if its being used for commercial purpose, and at such, they should be fine with #2500, infact it's not totally possible even with commercial, no be every time dem dey get passenger..

Also, they have the option of waking up in the middle of the night to charge if their power supply is epileptic as my area.

Like someone said above, it's a good initiative, although there is room for improvement

Your calculation is wrong, I'm very sure you included children and aged people before you arrived at 7 million populace, will children and aged people also pay tax, even those people within the age range to pay tax in Ogun state about 65% of them are jobless, now tell me where will jobless people see money to pay tax? #2,500 for charging per day is too costly considering the dire situation we find ourselves in Nigeria, that is 50k in 20 days.
