"Spoil the economy and reduce the impact of subsidy" seems to be happening right now because how can an increase in subsidy cause no price reduction. Or are they releasing false figures 2 Likes 1 Share |

I told someone if the numbers from the economic reforms are not adding up we are headed for more economic disaster.. They claim to have removed furl subsidy but we are paying subsidy through the back door.. We are taking loans for the wrong purposes and further increasing wastage and no short ot longterm improvement on the economy. 1 Like |

President Tinubu’s administration has borrowed over $2 billion so far on electricity and over $500 million was earmarked for mass metering. If the government wants to stop paying this costly subsidies, they should metre all the unmetered customers ASAP. You will generate more power and spread the cost across all bands evenly. Liquidity easily flows to DiScos, so DIScos can pay Gencos for electricity consumed at market rates, without the need for subsidy. Some of the liquidity even get to federal government because they own 40% of Discos, which means more federal budget allocations. I like that NBET is no more, so Discos will buy what they need directly. They should also start punishing electricity theft, NASS should pass a law that punishes customers bypassing meters. We basically need the market to induce more Gencos to produce more power, and that can only happen if they would be profitable doing so. Also, make TCN a 20,000 MW wheeling capacity national grid, and then privatise it. Once the market is flooded with Gencos and more Discos, electricity prices will come down. Electricity business should be a tax generating revenue stream for government, and not something they should be subsiding. This sector is a low hanging fruit for the president, particularly now that fuel subsidy is gone. They should improve it, and start using it as tax revenues. 1 Like |

Lol. Na so d lies continue . When I'm currently paying 1k for 4 units. People in my area have stopped leaving their security lights on at night. There would be power supply but everywhere would still be dark at night except for the solar powered street lights |

Re: Federal Government’s Power Subsidy Soars By 151% To ₦633.30 Billion by maasoap(m): 3:40pm On Aug 05 |
Tayorshd87: You are talking about metered households or unmetered households because I don't understand your submissions concerning 50k, 7k, 10k? I'm on band A, four units for 1k. Does that look to you like someone who is enjoying electricity subsidy? If I'm to use electricity regularly, my household would be consuming 6 units a day which is N1500. That's 45k per month. We're on ration now since band A palaver started. You may be on subsidy, my household is not |

bitsAndpieces: Nothing! That's what I'm trying to tell you. Use cement price for example, look at what happened this year. There is already competition in cement industry but the players still managed to come together and fix arbitrary price for us. They refused to compete among themselves, instead, they came together and had an understanding to keep the price high unjustifiably |
Re: Federal Government’s Power Subsidy Soars By 151% To ₦633.30 Billion by bitsAndpieces: 4:18pm On Aug 05 |
maasoap: Electricity is different because the electricity act of 2023 signed allows anyone to generate, transmit and distribute electricity as long as they are registered with the government. If I install a solar farm and start generating 5MW, I can sell it directly to consumers without going through the grid. Although, grid will help me save cost of getting it to you because they already have infrastructures on ground. I will invest in solar farms only if I get my money back. Imagine more of me in the market, obviously, price will come down. Also, I’m not dependent on gas or coal, so my overheads will be lower. I won’t want a situation where I go bank, borrow money to build solar farms, only for my customers not be able to pay, hence why gov should install meters and punish electricity theft. |
